Getting American Psycho, Qbert's Australian Tour, and some extremely bootleg Kool Keith DVD that I just happened to see last night trying to find something to take advantage of the DDD sale.

Another Wonka disc? Does it have all the extras of the 30th anniversary edition? Just looking on amazon, the 30th anni DVD has been withdrawn.

-Edit... It does:
DVD features
The golden ticket on this DVD is a delectable commentary track with the five grown-up Wonka kids: Julie Dawn Cole, Denise Nickerson, Paris Themmen, Michael Bollner, and Charlie himself, Peter Ostrum. Reunited for the first time since 1971, they joke and laugh and delight in the stories and remembrances each new scene brings. Other Wonka goodies include the new 30-minute documentary Pure Imagination (featuring archival footage with author Roald Dahl and new interviews with Gene Wilder) and the original 1971 promotional featurette, but neither capture the sheer energy and excitement of the commentary. For 90 minutes these giddy grownups become impish kids in a movie wonderland almost as magical as Wonka's candy-colored world itself.

That's great. I'll probably snag the Willy Wonka DVD. "Charlie" is apparently a dairy veterinarian according to VH-1, cool that he went out and did a commentary track for his one feature film :)

I just saw this movie over the weekend. What a great flick. I suggest that everyone go out and either rent it, or buy it.

I'm grabbing American Psycho for sure since the previous unrated version has been discontinued for a while.

The highly anticipated Region 1 release of this highly sought after gem:

June 28th

It will go nicely with my autographed Region 2 version. I will be interviewing Mr. Frost for the release, of course.

Is there any site that lists the difference between versions of the same movie? Like is it worthwhile to buy this new "Unrated Cut" of American Psycho if I already have the old disc?

DVDTalk.com is usually really good about comparing the different versions of DVDs, though i don't know if they did it in their review of american psycho. HERE is the review.

btw, using DeepDiscountDVD's 20% off sale, you can get the new American Psycho for $8.50 with free shipping. Thats a steal compared to what its selling for at BestBuy/Circuit City.

That will probably happen. The bigger question to ask is when the hell will the Spaced R1 be released?

Never. Unless you want it to be full of shitty, sound-alike music.

Shitty sound alike music? What do you mean? I've caught most of the episodes on Trio, I never noticed bad music.....

Spaced won't come over due to music licensing issues, so should it come over, chances are most of the music will get either replaced or removed, and I don't think they plan on either of those.

So I am just better off grabbing the R2 boxed set?

Trio also cut a ton of shit out of the episodes, making them near unwatchable.

And yes, you are better off getting the R2 set.

The licensing issues for a single TV airing are much different than for a DVD release. The cost of locking down themes from Star Wars, The A-Team as well as much of the Ninja Tune music, etc. is too prohibiative to make a U.S. release of Spaced worthwhile.

haha, why does it say Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Shouldn't it be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

that was the name of the Wilder movie. The Burton movie and the book are called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Finally, a widescreen version of Willy Wonka packed with all the features of the 30th set. I was so pissed that thing was Fullscreen only.

Dammit, why didn't somebody tell me that American Psycho was out-of-print? I probably could have gotten a good chunk of change for it on eBay, and then waited for the new version.

Why can't they just claim that they are doing a parody and thus exempt themselves from copyright/licensing issues?

The parody exemption only applies if the song they use is in and of itself a parody. Even Airplane! needed to specifically credit the "Jaws" theme.

Parody doesn't exempt you from publishing/licensing fees for music.

If I liked the ones on Trio, does that mean I have awful taste or does it mean that I'd really like the R2 release?

It wasn't, I have the OAR version right next to me.

I'd say you would like it, since there is stuff missing (re: beneficial) to the show. From what I *heard* they pretty much butchered the ending.

And besides, it comes with extras!

If you liked the ones on Trio, why would you have bad taste? :)
