Television includes:
B000A59Q8C.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

(Okay--here's a question. I remember this series already coming out on DVD, except that the music was screwed up because of licensing issues. Is this a re-release with proper licensing?)

B000AJJNFE.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

(Here's another question--there's also a miniseries that's available as a separate disc. Is that included in this box?)
(EDIT: Amazon says the miniseries is included here.)

'80s cartoon comeback continues:
B000A345DA.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Also Andromeda Season 5 collection 1; some Danielle Steel TV-movies; Pretender S2; a 27-disc bundle from Scholastic Home Video, and some other stuff.

I know I'll probably regret it but I'll pick up Mallrats. I might get Scary Movie 3.5 since I don't own the third one yet. Those documentaries seem interesting but I know what always happens to me with documentaries. They'll bore me and I wish I'd never bought them.

Better than just Da Ali G Show S2 like this week.

I'll be getting Mallrats for sure, and I'd really like to get From the Earth to the Moon but it's going to be way expensive, I'm sure of it.

Crime Story was an excellent TV show...I'll be checking that out and bring back some memories. Also, what does Scary Movie 3.5 have that the first one didn't?

B000A2UBOI.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Hell yeah. The week after we get the first season of Creature Comforts too.

I really want From The Earth To The Moon as well, but that'll have to wait.

Just Battlestar G Season 1 for me this week :D

*slams head on desk* WOW! GLAD THERE'S SO MANY AWESOME MOVIES COMING OUT! I THINK I'LL BUY ALL ZERO THAT I LIKE THIS WEEK!

I actually wanted to see Inside Deep Throat -- is it any good?

We saw Inside Deep Throat in the theater last spring; it's a really well made and interesting documentary. It even lead to some great discussions with my grandmother who actually saw Deep Throat at a theater in Seattle back when it was first released. But like many great films, I can't see this getting rewatched, so rent it. Also, Born Into Brothels is fabulous, make sure you watch that if you haven't.

Two titles for me this week:

B000A0GPFY.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

B0009MAOIC.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I want to get BSG s1, and the complete series of Clone High is coming out in Canada... damnation! This lack of money will be my ultimate downfall!

Saw Born Into Brothels at an indie film theater a few months ago.....not quite what I expected (actually it was a bit more uplifting in some ways), but quite good.

I wasn't planning on buying it, but sexuality and pornography are subjects that I find quite fascinating from a historical/academic perspective. Will definitely try to rent it.

And Born Into Brothels is coming up in my campus' film series -- I'll definitely aim to see it then.

Should I get the 'Limited Edition' of GitS Season 2, Volume One? What's the difference, just a collector's box? Is it like the metal one that came with the last volume of season one?

First off, let me state that I'm not purchasing the limited editions. It does not come with a box, but it does come with OST2 (which can also be purchased seperately). Apparently the LE packaging is causing some serious headaches over at the animeondvd forums. Might be smart to go for the regular version.

I was interested in this one; what is it about?

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com

Set in Calcutta's notorious red-light district, Born Into Brothels explores the lives of its most vulnerable citizens. Directed by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman, the picture’s eight small subjects shot the still footage themselves. Briski first teaches them how to shoot and edit. The children then put her lessons into practice. They gain confidence as the film proceeds, yet there's always the threat that any of the girls, especially 14-year-old Suchitra, could be forced to "join the line" (work as a prostitute). For most, it's only a matter of time. The boys don't have it much better. Promising photographer Avijit's mother is gone and his father is a drug addict. "Without help," Briski notes, "they're doomed," so she takes matters a step further and tries to get them out of the brothels altogether. Produced for HBO, this heartbreaking, if inspiring film won the 2005 Academy Award for best documentary feature. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Mallrats is still maybe Kevin Smith's funniest. Jason Lee is just the man in that film, and it's packed full start to finish with hilarious stuff. But I really like Dogma and Chasing Amy though for a more complete package. Clerks is a bit overrated due to a few horrible actors. You need good acting to sell jokes. Don't care what your material is.

This part of that review turned me off:

so she takes matters a step further and tries to get them out of the brothels altogether

I'm much more of a fan where the documentary is a third person and has no involvement with the subject they are filming. There's still Mallrats and Scary Movie 3.5.

Need to get Da Ali G Show too. I snagged the US version of The Office. I can't stand it, even with Steve Carell (sp?). The UK version slaughters it.

Clone High is only $21 on Amazon.ca, so I'd suggest picking it up for that price while you can.

Fairly meaty week for me. Two Criterions (An Angel at My Table and Naked), Wallace & Gromit (upgrading mainly for the "Cracking Contraptions" shorts) and a definite guilty pleasure... Ned & Stacy: S1. I used to watch it all the time when they did reruns on USA, and I'll be damned if I didn't giggle with joy when I heard they were finally releasing season sets.

I'm dying to have From the Earth to the Moon, but even at $50 or so it's a bit on the pricey side for me this month. Birthday next month, though! :)

The new W&G disc is missing most of the extras from the previous release... so fucking lame. Good to have the Cracking Contraptions shorts finally getting released here, but if I actually want commentaries (which I do), I guess I'm going to have to spend a bit.

Looks like I spent a little more on DVD Tuesday than I thought:

Da Ali G Show Season 2 - I bought this one twice but one was from a shady eBay dealer (my fault for not thinking) so I assumed it wouldn't show up.
Mallrats
Point of Order
Scary Movie 3.5

BSG Season 1 is 36.99 at Tower for anyone who hasn't picked it up already. That seems to be the cheapest price
