Suprised this hasn't been posted, since it's a couple days old. But IGN has impressions and info on Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires, and it sounds incredible!

Control on the battlefield has also been refined slightly, to allow players more control over their generals and lieutenants. By pressing one of the four directional keys, players can issue a command to your officers such as defend territory that you've just won or gather at your location for a final push on the enemy base. Similarly, in the midst of a battle you can issue specific orders to officers to attack enemy generals or bases, defend your own troops or bases, or move on their own volition. You're also given the option to plan out each officer's strategy for a battlefield in the strategy phase before a fight, but DW5: Empires now give you dynamic control over your troops instead of your main character.
There's also much more strategy placed on reserve units and troops to potentially save a poorly planned fight from becoming a massacre. Players will have the ability to assign a general and a lieutenant to act as reinforcements if the tide is turning against you, which could potentially be enough to get your side's waning morale back up if your troops have suffered significant losses and are panicking. You'd be surprised how quickly this can happen, especially since strong enemy officers appear to return to the battlefield much faster this time around. Enemy A.I. also seems to be much more intelligent, actively seeking to retreat and regroup their strength (and health) before launching another attack against your armies.
