Dyack talks 360 on Gamasutra

i see he still has the knack for ridiculous comparisons.

Dyack: Nintendo [has] some of the best video game creators in the world. Working with Miyamoto closely was amazing for us, and… I've said this before, but it's like working with Aristotle.

whatever.

haven't read the article yet, but i saw the picture. Holy crap what a nerd.
edit: actually he doesn't look that bad. But he should get better glasses.

Hmm I thought that Sega game was confirmed X360, or at least that is what some xbot told me. We know it is not for REV, that is for sure. :lol

Gamasutra: Did you play through God of War?

Dyack: I'm playing it. I'm in the Challenge of Hades. I love the art direction. To see Kronos walking around with the whole temple level on his back… there was so much imagery that I found captivating. I'm a big fan of mythology.

woohooo! :D :D

I wouldn't be surprised if they did an ED game for Rev but I don't expect them to do anything for the console.

Gamasutra: What do you think of the Nintendo Revolution?

Dyack: I saw pictures of the hardware. I looked for details and found none. I thought it looked nice, that the artistic design of the hardware was cool. But I don't know what the specs are. I don't know where they're going with their hardware right now. I'm always going to love Nintendo games, but it's too early to comment on the hardware.

Yes.

I still like this guy :D

Since ED he's been enthusiastic about whoever he works for without demeaning the prior respects he has had for others. You can also really tell he really wants to make games with REAL stories (unlike SHIT narratives that pervade 99% of story driven games), he's excited about content delivery online, game experiences that can't be pirated and a time when there's only video games and not video game platforms.

I know a lot of people seem to hate him, but I think he's pretty awesome.

I think gamers can expect what they normally expect from us,
Appropriation of someone else's intellectual property? Lots of talk with few results?

Hironobu Sakaguchi's studio Mistwalker is creating concept art and story, then passing off the game development to Artoon.
Wow, is this true? I hadn't heard about it at all.

So he's basically given the same answer as every other developer out there, including Nintendo.
If it were an unannouced game with an unknown publisher, there might be a chance of it being on REV. I doubt Sega is going to sit around and let SK waste time till they get REV specs and decide if they should do it on REV or x360 or ps3.. The game is already being made.

Too Human looks superb, love the art style of the game.

I like the concept but those images look like any other game using unreal 3 engine except that one from Namco they all look like this......guess we have to wait a little more.

that interview was very good kobun. kudos to you!

and all haterz can suck my dick. get a life. if you dont like the dude then dont enter this thread.

Gamasutra: This is the third or fourth time you've switched platform on this project.

Dyack : Originally, we were working on it for PSone. When we became a second party for Nintendo, we stopped. We did some earlier prototyping on the GameCube, but we then went full dedication to Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. When we went our separate ways with Nintendo, we talked to some friends in Microsoft.

Wow. So many people were looking forward to it on the Cube, and it never even got off the ground.

Oh good lord. Get your head of out his ass man!

He makes even Nintendo fans look bad.

I haven't heard anything about online from Sony or Nintendo.

Apparently he doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to other things going on in the industry. And at least the licensed an engine this go around, because that is their biggest failing in my opinion.

Gamasutra: What attracted you guys to Sega?

Dyack: They understand that we want to do bigger and better games with higher production values. Sega seems to really get it. You've probably noticed a big change from last year at their booth.
Dyack's last two games probably couldn't top 400K combined in combined sales, but still he wants to lead the charge towards higher production values. He hasn't learned much from Aristotle-san.

I loooooooove that quote, "Sega seems to really get it. You've probably noticed a big change from last year at their booth."

The interview is good, but Dyack remains a douche bag. SK has completed two games in, what, 7 years?

And the comparisons, working with Aristotle? What the fuck, man? If he would've said, "It's like a rookie director being given the chance to work with Spielberg", that would've been better. And 2 years ago, SK was a perfect match for Nintendo, now they're a perfect match for MS? Nintendo and MS is like apples and pears.

And Too Human, eh, a trilogy. Isn't that a little bit pretentious? Can you please try to make ONE game work first? ED's gameplay was shitty and TTS wasn't nearly as good as the original.

If SK releases three Too Human volumes within Xbox 360's lifespan, I'll eat a bowl of poop. Of course, they'll probably develop three volumes that take like 5 hours to complete...

Great interview. It´s always nice to read Dyack interviews. I can´t understand all the haters, you sure preffer reading insipid interviews where all the answers are "I can´t speak about it right now". I sure preffer reading someone as enthusiastic as Dyack is.

I can't believe you guys are bitchin' over his choice of references. Who cares if he likes Aristotle; are you guys Nietzsche fanboys?

Some gaffers (can one even say that?) complained over Keira Knightley being nude in some upcoming movie, it really isn’t surprising if they also complain about this.

Seems pretty ballsy of him to claim that World of Warcraft has "no content". That single game probably has more content than every game Dyack has produced combined.
And 2 years ago, SK was a perfect match for Nintendo, now they're a perfect match for MS? Nintendo and MS is like apples and pears.
In retrospect, it seems pretty obvious that Nintendo and SK were not a good match at all. This interview makes that clear. Dyack's a fanboy who wanted to work with the likes of Miyamoto, but his game design philosophy is much more in line with a company like Squaresoft. He wants huge budgets, expansive narratives, and a Hollywood feel. Nintendo isn't about any of that crap, though I'm sure they would have kept him around if he was turning out blockbusters rather than flops.

No, if Nintendo had the knowledge to not advertise this game at 3 in the morning between TV evangelists and wrestling reruns, ED would have sold better.

So many people were looking forward to it on the Cube, and it never even got off the ground.
Probably because Dyack kept talking about how it was going to kick ass on the cube. If it never got off the ground, it's probably because they weren't getting any work done, which seems to be what they do. Granted, they get a pass because they're not rare-sized, but for as long as it's been in dev, they could at least show screens.

ED was an excellent game. i don't understand the hate. The control scheme was much more intuitive than most horror games. The presentation was excellent... The story was way above average and the voice acting was top notch... It had nice art... great music and enough new ideas to make it feel fresh. the sanity effects where scary and interesting...

the only legitimage complaint about this game when comparing it to other horror games made at the same time would be the graphics, and they improve as you progress. ED deserved the 9+ reviews it recieved. It's an excellent game in almost every respect.

this interview makes me even more excited for too human and i'm really curious to see what they're doing for sega. There's really nothing in their catalog to support this, but i have a feeling they could do a nice job with shinobi.
