Dying Light 2 solely for the co-op experience, worth it now?

So I can get the game for XSX for about 19 bucks now, which is a good price for sure. The plan is to play this with my brother in co-op and my question is, is it worth it for that? Say for example when I go talk to a NPC for a side quest or the main quest, does the co-op partner see this conversation as well?

Some games do this very badly, meaning they don't see nor hear the conversation and thus miss out on what the NPC just said. I know when the game launched that there was critique about co-op, but since then updates have happened. From players who have been playing it or are playing it in co-op, is this truly a great experience now?

I've played DL2 in coop only, 2 times, both with friends, second time for all the achievements, once at launch, second a few months ago. It was a fucking mess at launch, and nowadays less so, but still very buggish. Aside from that, it's not a good Dying Light game. The first one had charm, amazing details in the environments, night times were really panic mode. The second game says fuck all that and opts to be a more generic looter than an actual zombie game. The story is absolute cringe dogshit after the first hours. Remember Chris Avellone was fired from this game. Combat is ok though.

Fun can be had in coop with any trash game tho, so take that as you will, but the 1st game is an 8.5/9 out of 10 while the second is a 6.

Ah shit, not what I was hoping to read. After the absolutely broken ass Ready or Not I don't think I can take another buggy ass game. And all the other negative stuff you mentioned doesn't sound super great either. Maybe it's best to just wait for The Beast in September.

Thanks though, appreciate it.

I got bored so quickly of this game. The first one was great but this was just boring for me personally. I didn't like the writing, characters or story. And the gameplay was a downgrade compared to the first one. I know that with updates they have improved it a lot but I never came back to it, the damage was already done

Character progress is saved for everyone, but story progress is only saved for the host. I'd only suggest it if you ONLY intend to play online with your brother, and they intend not to play any of the game without you.

But the good news is you can both hear conversations when they happen, and you get to share your feelings on what choices you should make with the story as well.

Can't speak to the co-op portion but I completed the game at launch and had an amazing time. The combat is so much better than the first game.

I passed on it because I didn't have the hardware on hand to play it when it launched, but I've never circled back to it because I heard that the mobility upgrades and bonuses were locked behind siding with a specific faction. I'll probably check it out one day, but my expectations have certainly been lowered given how mych I loved the first.

It is? Because I noticed how hit reactions and physics by zombies took a step back compared to the first one. I saw quite a lot of disappointed fans on Reddit about that too.

Dying Light 2 isn't worth it for anything. What a let down, I was so excited for it.

Just get Dying Light 1, it's much better than DL2 and a lot more fun and still looks amazing

The first game is better. The wife and I looked forward to this since we got a kick out of the first one (and I HATE zombie games), but immediately after starting the second game you can feel something is off. It definitely lost whatever the first game had.

I found some of the game mechanics to be tedious and unrewarding. Night only missions is an example, you can't see shit and feeling underpowered is the name of the game here. I often found myself overwhelmed by the platforming in the sense that, you do a lot of movement at all time for so little . Moving around is a cluster fuck in other words.

Speaking about launch: fighting against humans improved alot from DL1, against infected was HORRIBLY downgraded.

They fixed the latter aspect several times, putting alot of effort, and now is quite enjoyable, but still feels off in several regards.
The way the game manages 'entities' in a sandbox enviroments is Ubisoft/Guerrilla level of shit and I guess this cannot fixed, since alot of the design choices about world building/exploration row in the same direction.

I really enjoyed my time with the game, but I have to say it seems like it often goes out of its way to be tedious. So be prepared to be annoyed from time to time because of a really horrible design choice.

Me and a couple of friends picked it up on sale and have been playing through it when we find the time.
As a game it's not particularly great: Uninspired missions, lots of generic open world checklist stuff, an unrewarding loot system, etc. Fighting zombies actually feels a bit worse than the first game, and the bigger more boss or mini boss type enemies are still awful to fight, though fighting humans at least got significantly improved. Also it has a terrible story which wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't constantly throwing cutscenes and dialogue scenes in your face.

But, as usual, playing it in co-op with a couple of friends it's still pretty fun. It elevates it from like a 6/10 to a 7/10

In terms of bugs and stuff like that it hasn't been too bad. In the 25 hours we've played we had to restart a checkpoint once because an elevator didn't trigger. And someone has gotten stuck on the environment 2-3 times, though you can just teleport to another player through the map menu, so it's not that big of an inconvenience.
