Still haven't played part 2 despite really liking 1. I see it's on sale, but at this point I'm waiting for $12. My gaming plate is too loaded up right now to even get any use out of it.

Yeah I'm waiting for the Ultimate edition or w/e to be $15 or so. I bought DL1 on PS4 day 1 and loved it. Bought on PC with all DLC and eventually got around to playing it and loved it again (2024).

What really is The Beast? Is this so they can branch out a bit more and have different monsters than zombies?

Hoping it's more like the first game and that is has fucking HDR this time. Bad enough when some devs didn't implement HDR back on the PS4 Pro, but now? Come on man.

As someone who loved Dying Light 1, but hasn't played 2 yet what made 2 such a bad purchase.
I didn't hate 2 but I can definitely say there's something missing tone wise about Dying Light 2. It also doesn't help its several visions tied together and it shows.

I am surprised the DL2 hasn't received path tracing support yet, it was the second big AAA with all the ray tracing features like RTGI, RT shadow, RT AO and RT reflection after Cyberpunk so might as well implement path tracing with all the amazing post launch support :messenger_savoring:

The only thing that worries me about this is the name. Not 'Dying Light 3'. It makes me think its almost a extended expansion for 2 or something, and maybe its not going to be a huge game world and lengthy game.

Its a standalone title.

Funny enough, this also comes to PS4/XBO, so together with Atomfall, PS4/XBO still get big games in 2025.
That's nuts. I didn't even realize the original Dying Light 2 came out on PS4. That version must've had some serious compromises to be able to run.

It's like that one expansion for the original that grew so it became it's own game. The following I think?

It's hard to describe it but there's a lot of jank, unfinished ideas, and cut corners. The lack of ragdoll physics, the lack of guns, the downgraded combat/stealth, and the complete neutering of night time danger/atmosphere were huge issues. It feels like it was trying to be something more ambitious but completely failed. They made a lot of promises in the dev diaries prior to launch they didn't keep. The first is IMO the greatest zombie game ever made. The second was one of the most disappointing game experiences I've ever had.

My only positive was that the parkour was technically better.

I'm hoping Beast is a return to form.

The gameplay didn't sell the idea of playing as a hybrid with "powers", looks just like more Dying Light. Hopefully the game will lean more towards fighting monsters, rather than telling you to solve problems of different factions of humans.

I'm definitely waiting for post-release impressions. I didn't like DL2 because of that change of tone and the atmosphere of the city was also much worse than in DL1.

Dying Light 2 was one of the most disappointing sequels I had ever played. Aside from graphics, it felt like everything else was a downgrade. Even the writing was worse, which is pretty telling considering the first game's writing wasn't exactly good to begin with. I got to a point in DL2 where I would audibly groan whenever a cutscene would start because I knew some npc or even my own character was bound to do/say something annoying.

That being said, I played it at launch. Apparently the devs have addressed the physics/ragdoll and combat several times (which is indicative of how polarizing the community reactions were to said elements), so maybe at least the combat is better now.

This expansion is a pretty hard sell for me. Which is unfortunate because the first game is one of my favorite zombie games.

PS4/XBO run at PC-low, at 864p.
One X/PS4 Pro run at PC-medium, at 1080p.

Even so the PS4/XBO still looks pretty. C-Engine scales pretty well.

Dude the part where he fights two raiders was crazy.

Some crazy damage system.

Cool stuff. But as good or better than Dead Island 2 in that regard? Definitely better than DL2, that's for sure.

One thing about The Beast though, will the player have anything to worry about or be scared about? He's basically one of them after all, not 100% human. Wonder if that will take away from the suspense a little.

Dying Light was basically a Romero simulator for me and I loved it. I was not a fan of nighttime super zombies, but the daytime loop of gathering and fighting zombies was badass.

The sequel was a big disappointment for me, and I see I am not alone in that in this thread.

The mistake they made was thinking they could improve on the gameplay cycle when it was almost perfect as it was.

The one addition I liked was making indoor areas dangerous during the day, felt very I Am Legend.

I tried to like Dying Light 2. Given that Dying Light 1 is one of my most played games ever. But Dying Light 2 was just a bunch of shit, I kept telling myself it will get better. But it didn't which is a shame. But Dying Light The Beast hopefully delivers that same awesomeness of Dying Light 1. If it doesn't then I personally hold EviLore EviLore responsible for Techland's failure. Got to blame someone

I still can't believe so many people dislike Dying Light 2. I thought it was great and has some really memorable missions at least by open world standards. The parkour focused one where you slowly climb up that large tower in particular was fantastic, one of my favorite segments in any game this gen.

It was exactly like this. It started as an expansion to DL2 but apparently scope grew so much they felt it should be a standalone game. If you had a Season Pass for DL2 you're still getting it as a part of it
