Dynamite Headdy - Any fans?

I dropped by a new DVD/CD/Game store that opened up in my town today and they deal mostly in used stuff. I checked out what they had and noticed they still carry NES, Genesis, SNES, Game Gear, and current stuff. Amongst the Genesis games they had Dynamite Headdy with the plastic box and instructions for $5.99.

I know the game was developed by Treasure, but I never managed to play it back when it released. Usually I'll pick up just about any game to try at that cost, but lately I've been pinching pennies a bit more than usual. Is the game any good? Is this one of Treasure's better releases? I love Treasure, but they've been known to miss the mark on occasion.

Great game.

Reminds me of Billy Hatcher - not for any gameplay reason.

Both feature new, somewhat well designed - but not - mascot characters.

Both feature new, somewhat well designed - but not - platform gameplay.

Both feature a very bright and sunny color palette juxtaposed with some very dark final levels.

Both posted decent - but not great - sales numbers.

Fantastic game with some of Treasures best new original characters. Truly a wonder to behold, and is fantastically part of the Treasure Box Sega Ages.

Would love to get some of the artwork and stuff that went into design, as I remember seeing some in an old magazine.

it's phenomenal. challenging, ridiculously inventive, genuinely funny. one of my favorite platform games, right up there with rocket knight adventures and yoshi's island.

A great platform game with lots of novel ideas and some very memorable bosses ... ugh that one, the giant face, that kept flipping the whole stage upside down drove me nuts. One of Treasure's classics I'd say.

Great game, but very hard! I never beat it. I made it quite far towards the end, but I always failed in some self-scrolling stage (I hate those).

The pal version did not have any story in it, I think it was cut because of cartridge space issues. The cut scenes still exist but don't have any text on screen.

Is the US version the same?

I always wondered what that cat is going on about!

Right here.

Superb gameplay ideas, amazing enemy design, unforgetable bosses and insane music. No game has had a similar style before or since. I'm not one of those Treasure fanatics that believe them to be gods and import all their games, but seriously, they're god-like in this game.

Still have my old cpy and loved it to death!! Treasure Box is due next week?! Import?! Been busy with projects at work, so I'm behind on gaming info.

One of the best platformers ever created. Godly graphics, godly music, and the play control is just right.

And yes, it is VERY hard. And that is why I love it so.

Didn't like it as much as some of Treasure's others... the balance was all messed up for the US release so as a result it's too challenging! The spinning tower was a nightmare :P I need to try the original Japanese version one of these days...

drohne - Rocket Knight Adventures... damn, I thought I was the only one who remembered that game. Great, great game...

Came across this thread and felt like a bump was in order. Truly awesome game, which no one, even diehard Treasure fans, talk about. I'd love to see another update, though for the DS.

Also, Konami needs to get off their ass and do a new Rocket Knight Adventure.

I couldn't beat the big red boss thing near the end, nor could I play basketball well enough to get the secret numbers. Loved the game immensely, though

This thread is useless without pics.

Actually I only say that because I vaguely remember playing this game and want a memory refresh.

great game that with many other made my swallow my original opinion that the SNES featured a better library. I can even say i rank that game a bit over Yoshi Island!

That said, prepare to be anus horibilis raped by the "twin boss" that run after you.

I finally like this game! I tried it out tonight under the Treasure Box and something finally fit just right and made me start enjoying it. I'd played it a bunch of times before tonight, but it always felt too weird or gimmicky or something. Tonight, I picked up the spike head and started using it to climb the walls in the spot right before the place where there's a tunnel you have to shrink to get into. I finally realized that even though there's nothing connecting Headdy's head and body, the further he gets from his head when he's attached to something, the faster he'll rubberband back when you let go. That was the key - after that I started seeing new ways to use the head everywhere and started enjoying it a lot more than I hever have. I managed to do a lot better on the bosses, too, for some reason. :p

I totally fell for gamefan's hype, but in a good way! it was the first treasure game I played (yes, sorry, late to gunstar) and I loved how it felt so much like an arcade game.
