"Dynasty Warriors 5 is a game that feels like déjà vu all over again. While diehard fans of the series will probably once again enjoy being able to slice their way through all the same battles once again, even they may be disappointed at the removal of the empire mode, which is seemingly for no good reason, save perhaps to add it back in for another Empires spin-off. As for the non-diehard fans, the core gameplay here will be all too familiar, even with the scant few changes that have been made. And odds are you'll simply grow tired of grinding through the same battles yet again, with only a half-baked storyline to keep you interested. Ultimately, you're probably better off waiting until Koei announces the inevitable first Dynasty Warriors 5 spin-off, rather than picking up this game."

They do know that the Legends games don't replace the originals, right?

Empire mode removed? WTF? Last time I checked Empire mode was only in DW:Empires....

Haha, who cares. Not like I expect reviewers to know the history of the Dynasty Warriors games anyway.

Nearly 150 reader review scores are in and they are giving the game a 9.5 average. :D

I definitely wouldn't give it a 9.5, but it's far better than the Gamespot score pegs it at.

Also, I think my biggest complaint is that unlike Kessen III, DW5 has no option for original language with english subtitles. Don't they get some top name voice talent in Japan for these games just like they did for Kessen III?

Having played dynasty warriors 2 and 3 and seeing no difference between the 2 I'd be suprised if they really altered teh game much for 4 and this new one, sequels should be penalized for lack of innovation. On the same note though, it'd be nice if gamespot was consistent with this, the tony hawk games, of which I've played 3 are all damn near the same friggin game yet each time they recieved 9's and 10's. THUG changed things up a bit but even then it got a sequel that was basically the same thing with improved graphics.

If I had my way sports games would be subject to a normal review and then a -1 from their total score for every month less then 18 since the last one came out. In other words each new madden game could only max out at a 4 out of 10.

People who don't LOVE DW games should not be in this thread.. you barely qualify as LIKING DW... please leave. ;)

THUG 3 - You can shit on someone's face now while rail grinding 9.9

There just needs to be some consistency on how they review updates. Dynasty Warrior games are always fun, but they get a lot of hate for being the same. Yet, that's perfectly fine for THPS or Madden.

To be fair about the voice acting, ummm from the little I played of the Japanese version the game featured the worst voice acting I'd heard in my life. I think they intentionally try to make it cheesy like a dubbed foreign film.

OTOH Samurai Warriors had a solid Japanese voice track.

Well to be fair to Dynasty warriors it never had good voice acting to begin with.

If you took out the cheese from DW: sometimes too colorful look, buttrock, voice acting–then you might have the basis for a Seven Samurai game.

Some of us have a minor understanding of the language without being able to comprehend it enough to catch all the important directions in the middle of a battle. In that case, well done voice acting and subtitles is much better than the super lame English tracks they always include.

interesting bad review, but much better than what they had up for Kessen III

and do my eyes deceive me or did Alex complain about the storyline in a Dynasty Warriors game??
