E3 2005 worst e3 ever?

----

Banned
This e3 has been a pretty awful experience. I've had to sit on nothing but insanely long lines to watch 15 minute demos. It is friday afternoon there is barely any media left and the wait for Nintendos Zelda line is currently 3 to 4 hours. The wait for PS3 demo is ridiculous as well. Then there are the lines for quake 4, call of duty 2, king kong, unreal, "Sega Theater," etc. And these are not short waits, I waited on line for call of duty 2 for an hour before I finally gave up and left. Imagine the worst amusement park imagineable and that in a nut shell is e3 2005. Imagine 3 hour waits in line to see 15 minutes of prerecorded video. Everyone walks around with gigantic show bags filled with nothing. Everyones bags are empty because the booths have become extremely stingy. There was a frenzy for Ati t-shirts that was quiet frankly disturbing. Mountain Dew, G4, and a few others deserve credit for being generous.

Now you might ask why would you wait on those stupid long lines when you could play games. Well the lines to play games aren't very long at all, maybe only 2 to 3 people deep.
The reason for this is simple, the games suck. Well the games on the show floor suck. Maybe you can find a decent game to play tucked away in a small quiet meeting room, but not on the show floor. Show floor access will get you nothing at E3 2005. All the big games we want to play like Perfect Dark (played by celebrities not by games media), Zelda, Kameo, Gears of War, DOA4, Ninja Gaiden, Ghost Recon 3, Unreal, Quake 4, GTA PSP, etc. are not playable. I came here to play these games and I will leave having played none of them.

This is the most dead I have ever seen E3, even by Friday standards this is bad. And yet the lines never end. In past E3's I have waited on line for things like PSP, Halo 2 demo, DS and it was never this bad. Like I said before imagine the worst amusement park ever and that in essence is E3 this year. Intolerable. Don't expect next year to be much better with Nintendo and Sony closely guarding their new systems games as MS is this year.

P.S. I wrote (T-9ed) this topic on my cellphone while waiting on a line.

I still refuse to visit the wasteland that is Kentia Hall. Don't go 2 E3.

It does seem really shitty aside from Zelda and DS titles.

Next years should be great considering people will actually get to play the next-gen consoles.

I don't know, I'm liking it. I'm excited about MGS3: Subsistence, MGS4, PSU, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (which apparently plays just fine), the DS..

I wish more came out of it, like PSP and DS online stuff, more games for both handhelds, etc., but I can't say I'm disappointed about news games in my favorite series. Plenty of Metroid, plenty of Castlevania, Phantasy Star, Metal Gear. Even the .hack//G.U. news was a nice surprise.

Very disappointing E3 in whole. Socom 3 tournament was fun, but I did that years ago when it first came out. There was a 3 hour line just to see the PS3, and that's the reason I really went. Oh yeah, so my buddy and I got there late and the parking lot across the street from the convention wanted to charge me $40 to park. So we drove for about a mile, parked my car in the hood, and walked our way in. Needless to say, I was happy when we weren't shot and my car was still there when we left. Boo E3.

i parked 2 blocks away from the convention and i was charged $3.50. it was funny after i left e3, i saw those $40 parking go down to $10-$20. you gotta drive around and look. but yeah e3 sucked ass. i waited 30mins in line for ps3, saw xbox360 but couldn't play it cuz my name is not elijah wood or britney spears or some fuckin name. fuckin lame for a system coming out in 5months.... in fact i didn't even play a fuckin demo at all... except mario kart ds so i could get a mario kart stylus.

Namco was pretty generous and started giving out full retail copies of their games at the end of their show. I got a nice 25th anniversary Pac-Man shirt from them, unfortunately I had to get punched in the nose by someone, stepped on and crushed against a wall to get it. And of course, where was Frame City??? I certainly didn't get to play it.

Looks like Nintendo has a brighter future than I thought :D

I went to E3 today and after 1 hour of walking around I left. By far the worst videogame convention since my 1st Winter CES in 1991. Now that G4 covers the show, I never have to go again. :lol

the Summer CES' in Chicago rocked. I went to 2 of them -- one was where Nintendo premiered Donkey Kong Country. and there was also a playable demo of FFVI / FFIII

never been to an E3.

but as for E3, it's all about E3 2006 where all three consoles will be on the show floor, with real games. E3'2K6 is where its at. just 12 months to go :lol

i bet next year's E3 will blow everyone away.... hopefully
Thats what I thought would happen this year. What a letdown. The only real new info was the PS3 hardware and Rev details. Everything else was stuff we've partially seen before or stuff we didn't care about. it's almost as if every game company that anybody cared about was completely unprepared. Nobody could give a straight answer about pretty much anything. ("Is that in-game or CG?" "That's what we want the game to look like" :| "What do you think of the PS3 specs?" "Xbox Live is gonna kick ass" :|) There were no suprises at all (THURSDAYTON!") and nothing really worth talking about. I expected the greatest E3 ever, so I guess I set the bar too high. But even if I expected something slightly worse than last year, the bar would still be too high. It was a really big letdown.

Agreed, bad show. Left early on Wed. and Thurs. and skipped Friday altogether.

The RYL babes in Kentia Hall were pretty hot. There were some neat gadgets there, too.

Don't care about cell phone games, don't care about handhelds. Maybe I will care about them when they aren't so crappy compared to the games I like. Or when I have lots of time to kill and no top-of-the-line gaming system handy (It's been years, and it still hasn't happened, so probably not soon.)

Anyway, DS may have been good at the show. Gizmondo may have been good. Whatever. When the most exciting thing at the show is some shitty platform like the DS, you know it's a bad year.

I will throw my hat into the "worst ever E3 ring"
I asked everyone what their game of show was, and everyone just kind of sat there going "um...." You know E3 has failed when almost no one can come up with something. Most other years there's at least 4 games vying for that honor, and this time it seemed like 20% saying zelda and the rest saying nothing.

Wellington said "Madden," but he was joking... kind of :P.

I don't remember waiting in line to play Zelda.

Not ever. 2003's E3 was rather crappy too if I recall. But this year is right there next to it. Not that many "OMGWTFBBQ" games except for Zelda and Kameo. Interesting DS software. But that's *it*.

I stopped caring and madly refreshing after the first day of showfloor, after reading that nothing worthy was there, only behind closed doors. This is bad.

what exactly was Namco giving out?

Pac-Man t-shirts (w/ classic sprites on the front)
I <3 Katamari mousepads
Namco 2005-2006 calendars
Hats for some dumb game I can't remember..

Common games:

Pac-Man World 2 (gc/xbox)
Pac-Man Collection (gba)

Uncommon games (thrown out only at the end of the last day):

Tekken 5
Ridge Racer (psp)
Katamari Damacy
Xenosaga II

For the record, I got a shirt, calendar, several Katamari pads and a cube copy of Pac-Man World 2. And a picture with Prince Ouji! :D

Also, don't count out Kentia hall! 30 or so awesome classic arcade cabinets, a huge collection of classic consoles on display, and twice-daily performances by kickass chiptune rockers 8-Bit Weapon made it one of the most fun places to be at this year's expo. It sure beat the 4 hour Zelda line, anyway. :(

yes zelda was playable if willing to put up with a 4 hour wait on line and you are willing to skip lunch. You could literally make an entire day out of waiting on the PS3 and Zelda lines. This is unacceptable. I'm sure there are plenty of other event organizers who could come up with something better than. If this is an interactive entertainment then I should be getting hands on not watching videos and standing in absurd lines.

The line for Nintendo was bad, but Sonys line was almost as bad and all you got was some video footage you could have downloaded online.

The thing that really pisses me off is that you've got G4 talking about all the great games they got to see and play behind closed doors. Adam Sessler scolded the developers for not putting any of the good games on the show floor. Well I'm not ever going to E3 again unless I'm getting access to the big games.

MS should have shown more. I was not impressed with what I saw and I was not alone. Upon leaving MS's screening room the presenters kept saying "tough crowd" "tough crowd" cause nobody was smiling excited or saying it was good. Let us play something good, let us play with the systems multimedia features, at least give us a live demo not just a stupid video, otherwise expect to get a negative or lukewarm reaction.
