E3 2005: Lights Out!
Power outage at the LA Convention Center puts E3 Expo in the dark.
by IGN Staff

May 18, 2005 - The show floor is merely one hour from opening, and no one can see it. The lights are out at the LA Convention Center, meaning that the thousands of expectant industry professionals and analysts are left waiting until power is restored.

Although patches of power exist in the building (the IGN room, where this is being written still has juice), the grid is down on West Hall and the media lounge. Sources state that full recovery could take up to six horus. A similar thing happened in 2000, when the convention center lost all Internet access. We'll shed some more light (ahem) on this story as it develops.

The hall MS is in in still up though right? West Hall is Sony and Nintendo?

:lol

I finally caught this weeks show last night(Tivo)... wow....

Clearly this is MS fault:

X360 running at 1/3 power.... some fool flips it to full power... the thing becomes sentient and immediately attacks it's competitors by knocking out power to their areas.

Crap! Both Insider and Gamespot's scheduled shows won't stream as a result. And there was actually a decent lineup on both sites this morning. :(

More like it takes two power connectors to plug into two jacks which caused the outlet to short...... Poor PS3. Powered by Nuclear Fusion. :lol

Yeah Insider has a decent lineup, was looking forward to the suckerpunch interview..

I can just picture CK and FMT laying their hands on the the controllers for the Madden 2006 kiosks...

**power goes out**

**CK starts to quiver and spasm**

<FMT> (looks over at CK) "Calm down buddy, it's going to be all right"

**CK turns green and rips his shirt off**

<CK> HULK SMASH!!!!!
<FMT> NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Some live shots over on CNBC show the center coming back to life, with many displays back up and running. Gamespot is streaming live. Mario Baseball.

Definitly the work of Nintendo, what else could distract people enough to have the proper grand revealing of the Revolution's controler.
All of a sudden a spotlight will appear out of nowhere and you will see Iwata standing there with a HUGE grin on his face saying 'I bring you the REVOLUTION!'

E3 is totally f-ed up. They were scrambling to get stuff setup late yesterday. PSP showing is abysmal. There are only like 5 games and they are all Sony sports games. The lines for PS3 and Zelda are insane.

Yup.
3 Billion little Pikmin warriors are going to bust out from that Revolution prototype and kill everyone in the convention center. "

Lines for the PS3? There's nothing to see that wasn't shown at the press conf... and that Sony PSP lineup doesn't sound right at all considering the previews we've been getting for quite a few games that are suppose to be there...

Any updates on this? Did they open the floor for the building that has power or is the whole place closed down until things are up and running?

Will the show run until later in the day to make up for time, or is every minute being lost?

Power is coming back up. Still a few spots down. IGN looks to be hit hard. Gamespot is back up and streaming live. Booths including Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo look to have power.
