E3 rumor regarding PlayStation Plus

I'm curious if were going to hear some numbers. I'm interested to know how many PS+ subs there are. It seems like it became quite popular over the last year.

I expect something big-ish is going to be announced, if only because we normally know what the PS+ content is by now and there's still been no word about it. Fortunately, I'm prepaid thru next March. :)

Yeah, me too. I have about 30 friends on my list. About 1/3 have PS plus.

Not sure what it would take to get the other 2/3. It probably has to be something dramatic, like GOW MP beta for plus only. Or Last of Us gameplay demo. Right now, there doesn't seem to be a lot of exclusive demos/games. I think thats going to draw people in.

I'm in! Picked up my 3 month subscription yesterday... it's worth the $18 just to ride the hype train :) Besides, I downloaded a whack of free games and picked up a few more I'd been looking at for PS+ prices, so I feel like I totally got my money's worth out of it already...

Yep, this is my mentality too. I've already downloaded much more than $18 worth of stuff and I've only had PS+ for 30 minutes. It's definitely already paid off, and any E3 announcement will just be icing on the cake. Even if this is just a false rumor, it's good marketing by Sony to get people to try PS+ and find that they enjoy the free games and other benefits of the program.

$18 for $50 worth of something that will be going away. Is that something worth it...
As long as you subscribe you get to keep it forever, once your subscription lapses you lose access but can regain access if you subscribe again.

Every month PS+ members get free games, sometimes its big titles like Far Cry 2, NFS Shift 2, sometimes its PSN titles like Trine 2, Awesomenauts, etc..

I subbed in feb for £35 and I haven't looked back, in just the first 2 months I got my moneys worth and i still have 9 months left including what might be coming at E3.

Its more than what you get from Microsoft, put it that way.

I wouldn't buy (and I haven't bought) these titles anyway and I'm a big XBLA games player. I have like one hundred of games on my GT account.

I hope Sony changes totally the formula so it gets interesting for me. Maybe give only one title for free, a hit, and give bigger discounts on everything else.

Just because you wouldn't doesn't mean everyone wouldn't. They have to please everyone, if you subscribe for a year there will be at least one month where its worth the money you spent on a subscription.

It also affords the opportunity to try stuff for free that you might never have thought about buying.

My Plus sub just ran out, I have way too much free shit that will become unusable if I don't resub. Wait.... I see your tricks now, Sony.

So, I never used PS+ before. How do the free games work exactly? Like if their for June, you can still use them as long as you have the account even if their not on PSN as free titles right? And what if you have game x, and unsubscribe, and game x is gone from the store, and you resubscribe some months later, can you still play game x fore free?

Download the games, you can use them as long as you have PS+, if your subscription lapses the games are still on your HDD but you cannot play them until you resubscribe, once the month passes and next months PS+ is updated you cant redownload the previous months.

So if you subscribe, download some games, drop subscription, dont delete the games you want to keep if you plan to subscribe in the future as you cannot download old titles.

Lol. This was a small concern of mine too. But, whilst I'm still a subscriber, I realise I'll have played the shit out of the "free" stuff, if my subscription isn't renewed, and would only want to keep titles for the sake of "completeness". Still, I already know I'll be re-subscribing when it does run out cos, at least to me, it isn't expensive.

EDIT: Trine 2? Shit, didn't know that was available on +. Will have to get it if it's still around.

Don't forget the fact that the + discounts are often way bigger than regular discounts and you get to keep those purchased games forever. Case and point, 4 pixeljunk games for a buck each. I should do the math for my own purchased titles one of these days, I'm curious how much money I saved.

Pixeljunk sale wasn't a PS Plus sale

This is a really big selling point for PS+ for me. Discounted and not tied to subscription expiry.

The main thing they need to fix about game acquisition is to offer some sort of means to purchase games you got for free.

So, for example, you're on PS+ subscription and get Game X for free. Before sub expires, game is offered at a significant discount -- but while on sub, with game in library, there is no actual way to purchase it outright. Subscription expires, game goes away, and if you want it the discount is probably not still in effect. :(

For Vita-only owners, how risky is subscribing to PS+? I'm afraid most of the benefits will only be for PS3, and I really don't want to waste my $18.

Hard to say, Sony has been complete shit with vita support for PS+, in fact I don't think they've had even one special vita offer. But I'd be shocked if that doesn't change after e3

Own ps3/vita

Wait for e3, now ps+ would be a waste of money. Even if sony gives a bonus to actual ps+ subscribers it shouldn't be too much big or everyone else will rage.
I think that the eventual gift will be a limited time free trial for a new service or feature.

I'm Vita only and I'm waiting.

Alright. I will only bite if they announce something really good for the Vita.
Who knows, maybe they'll give us PS+ as Ambassador gifts lol

the reward is a miniature, nonfunctional, Vita.
A broken PSP with a second analog nub glued on?

Honestly, with the selection of free games now it's still a great deal even if the teasing is complete bullshit (or is there PRECISELY because the games now are great and if you don't have it by Monday you're missing out!)

Haven't been a member yet, but am considering.... What if the reward is just the amount you saved before Sony announces an increase to the pricing for PS+? I would chuckle.

Sony wouldn't announce a price-hike at their conference without coupling it with new services, at which point we got in for the new services at the cheaper price.

Purchase information emails aren't that specific, but here's the breakdown:

Bought 2 years of PS+ during the Christmas Sale for €40.

Just Cause 2 + all DLC - €15 instead of €30. Kept me busy for at least 40 hours, got more than my money's worth.
Crazy Taxi - €2,50 instead of €10
RDR & UN bundle - €22,50 instead of €40
House of the Dead 4 - €5,60 instead of €8 something
4 Pixeljunk games all for €1 each. Shooter kept me busy for at least 3 hours and I haven't even beaten it yet, not bad for just €1.

I saved over €35 and I'm still halfway the first year.

Now for free games that I was interested in:

All Back to the Future eps (glad it was free)
Shank 2 (€10)
Simpson Arcade (€10)
Awesomenauts (€10)

And these are the ones that I played. There are a shitload of others in my download list, waiting to be picked up. Not to mention the huge amount of free themes and avatars. Full-game trials are also really helpful, it warned me not to buy House of the Dead Overkill because it's a glitchy piece of shit. Thanks +!

The best part is, I haven't even included the cheap games that I bought during regular, non-plus sales. I wasn't convinced that + was worth it in its early days, but Sony made some major improvements and now I can't wait how hype the E3 goodies will be.

Signed up a few hours ago ( EU account ) , but the pixeljunk games ( a few days ago for 1 euro a game) are gone now. I'm lucky once again :/
Be aware that those pixeljunk games are full priced again.

This wasn't a PS+ promotion. I bought these before I got Plus.

I think I'll bite. I might do a full year because it works out cheaper per month and I am generally pretty cheap.

The Ultimate Bundles deal was tempting me a lot and I guess this little announcement will make me cave.

That survey floating around a while back would suggest Sony was considering a price hike.
Option 3 would seem to be the best to me there, even if you get less PS3 games. The "new release" content and A-quality games seems to make it the most worthwile, and plus it's the cheapest.

I can't wait to see what Sony have in store for PS+, already been subscribed for over a year now and I love it. I just hope they'll bring out that external BC adapter for PS4, or at least have some way to use PS+ content next gen. Wouldn't want all of the content to become unusable on their next console.
