EA bought the NHL license?

Boycott all you want, EA is just laughing at you.

Come on guys, look at the top 20 this month. The games industry does not belong to gamers anymore. It hasn't for a long time. How many copies did Wario Ware Twisted sell?

And its only going to get worse. Here's to license and sequels!

This would suck, it would take away any chance for some new developer to make a really good NHL game. The stuff that's out now isn't that great but I'm holding out hope someone can step up and make a great NHL game.

Don't do it NHL, don't give the license to EA exclusively.

Did anyone else notice that the image is named Money1.jpg? :lol

Oh well, doesn't affect me, I haven't bought a hockey game since NHLPA Hockey 93 on Megadrive.

Now go sit in the corner and think about what you just said. :)

My opinion of sports video games:

Football -- I don't give a shit.
Basketball -- Boring and pointless.
Baseball -- Even moreso.
Soccer -- *yawn*
OMG GAF/WE FANS DON'T KILL ME
Hockey -- GIMME SOMMA DAT YO!

Basically I can't stand playing a video game version of a sport I can actually play. EA can have all the exclusive sports liscences they want but they better leave the NHL alone! :(

Gamespot's update on the change from "Exclusive" to "Official..."

[UPDATE] Since this story went live, EA has changed the artwork on its NHL 06 home page. The graphic now reads "official license" rather than "exclusive license" (check the above link to the NHL 06 page with the screenshot index for a comparison). Subsequent to the story going live, an EA spokesperson told GameSpot that the company does not have an exclusive licensing deal with the NHL. The NHL confirmed that an existing license with EA was in effect, but did not offer additional comments on earlier use of the word "exclusive" by EA.

This is now a hockey discussion thread!

Saw a preview of NHL 2006 on Gamespot. The 'stick handling' is now on the left analog stick, so now everyone will look like they're playing curling as they approach the net. At least that's what the EA guy looked like when he demonstrated it.

I just pray that NHL 2k6 isn't riddled rotten with glitches and bugs like it has the previous 2 years.

One would think that the NHL wouldn't be so hasty as to sell an exclusive license at the lowest point in their history. The more titles = better exposure.

Of course, money talks.
