EA hires Doug Church to develop new IPs

Beauty and the Beast together at last? Church is responsible for some absolutely amazing games, I hope he takes advantage of EA's bankroll to produce something truly special.

They'll probably have him create a bunch of new IPs, then cut him loose, then make sequels to them every year, complete with EA Trax.

As scary and laughable as that sounds, I wouldn't put it past them.

At least they would be yearly sequels to brilliant IP's as opposed to the generic shit that EA normally puts out :lol

About fucking time, EA needs some new and exciting ideas. The right man for the job. It's good that EA is finally acknowledging they are almost bankrpt when it comes to non-sports internal IP. The thing is, it's going to take years to turn ideas into great games, maybe less for a company the size of EA...Good move though!

are thgese original IPs First person Shooters or Hip hop oriented?

I didn't know DC was DOWN!!!

Doug has been apart of some really amazing products. I mean majority of the Looking Glass Studio Projects, the first games from Harmonix Music, some Eidos games (thief 3, Deus Ex 2, Whiplash). I'd love to just hear what Doug has to say about gaming and where he sees it going.

Deus Ex Underground - Yo those biomods are WHACK, here take these new iridescent eyballs. Complete with EA TRAX so you can get down with Snoop Dogg while discussing the virtues of Alexis de Tocqueville's analysis of democracy with a semisentient AI. *boggle*

Seriously, it's good to see Doug at a place where he can have some influence. I think EA knows that solid, new IPs for single-player games like Doug has worked on in the past can be well-received on consoles. They can also do exceedingly well on the PSP for fraction of the development cost, where the not-as-powerful 1st party influence Nintendo has on the DS "opens up" that platform to profitable, lower production cost titles to boost the bottom line with less risk.

BTW, Doug had a little part in the design of Frequency, which was a really terrific "simple" title.

Where's Spector now? I want more of his 90's magic.

Making a fantasy role-playing game with his 90's magic and 00's money.

And if Chris Hecker, Doug Church and Will Wright end up crossing their streams at EA, hoo boy, that would be one hell of a game.
