EA Secret Marvel Project Revealed

Taken from http://www.newsarama.com/Qrama/Qrama7.htm

"Q- Currently you’re also working on something called the Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects. It’s a project we’re doing in alliance with EA. It started out being a very cool project but once you came on board it really leaped to something much larger. Tell us a bit about it, it’s a bit of a collaboration?

GP- Yep, it’s a super cool crossover miniseries which throws a team of classic Marvel characters against a team of brand new superheroes created by the brilliant folks at EA. The series will be published as a lead up to an EA video game release this fall and involves an alien scientist who clashes with a series of Marvel heroes when he comes to Earth to create a team of technologically transformed super warriors. So for the past few months, I’ve been working with Marvel editor Mark Paniccia and the EA creative team to develop a story which’ll be an exciting, compelling epic in its own right while introducing the characters and setting up the conflicts which’ll be explored in the game.

The new EA characters are incredible -- I think folks are going to be blown away by their design and powers. And the comic book art by Renato Arlem is just tremendous. He’s rendering these superheroes with a beautiful, gritty, fluid realism which really makes the characters and story come to life.

So you know there’ll be eye-popping Sci-fi superhero action. But what’s got me really excited is that we’ve found the emotional hook -- we’re exploring that hidden core of doubt which may plague even the greatest heroes as the Marvel characters and the new EA heroes struggle with the temptation of "perfection" offered by the alien scientist's transformative technology. It’s going to be a fun ride, with some real emotional consequences for new and classic characters alike."

You'll have to excuse me, but the phrase "superheroes created by EA" doesn't instill me with a whole lot of confidence. :P

Calling Marvel Comics "The House of Ideas" is enough of an oxymoron.

I see no problem in pairing the most creatively bankrupt corporation perpetuating the ghettoization of comics, with the most despised third party in the Western world. It's a match made in rubbish movie/game deal heaven.

When can we expect EA's Power Pack game?!

Planet Terry?!

Unfortunatly the phrase "superheroes created by Marvel" iwouldn't be any better. Stan Lee would be a different story though.

I did think it was gonna be some horrible cross over but it looks like EA have actually hired someone to make superheros (that i guess they own all the rights to, so if it's a success they can dump the expensive marvel license).

Im always keen for a game promising a strong narrative so im actually kinda intrigued by this.

Yeah - when you think of the creation of comic book characters, you usually think of a person or persons... Seigel & Shuster, Kirby, Kane, Eisner, etc. Not "Created by Marvel" or "Created by DC" or whatever.

Still, reading the above blurb, it looks like the EA-created characters are going to be fighting the Marvel characters (at least initally) - they can't be any worse than stuff like "The Kangaroo".

Um... the EA vs. Marvel thing was announced the better part of a year ago... why is this news? (And yes, I know that the details of the comic project are new, but that's it.)

Because it gives details of whats actually going on, and dispels the predominant theory that the game is going to involve tiger woods fighting the xmen.

... but that would actually be worth playing!!!

Wolverine *sharpening claws* : "I'm gonna tear you to pieces!"
Woods *swinging club* : "be FORE-warned, i'm gonna stick a tee up your ass and use your balls as driving practice, bitch"

The press release in which the deal was announced clearly stated that the game would feature EA-created characters... I would hope that no one actually believed the Tiger Woods, etc thing. Though it was funny.

[TotalSarcasm]I'm sure this will be awesome thanks to the amazing character designers at EA.[/TotalSarcasm]

edit: at the very least I hope "Spider-Ham" is in it

Come on guys... they did say the crossover was going to be super cool

What kind of name is Imperfects? sounds like a gag team I drew once called the Intangibles - they didn't have super powers but they did have that certain... something.

SIMS-MAN - With the power to make even the most meaningless tasks excessively long endurance tests!

Hulk: "HULK SMASH...ABOUT 3 HOURS FROM NOW."

DR. E(A)NTROPY
- Eats up anything it gets near! The competition will be wiped out after his buyout tactics!

Captain America: "My adamantium/vibranium shield! It was indestructible, but he dissolved it immedately! How?"

THE SENATOR - Has nothing against EA games, as they are good and decent! Hates Marvel because they disregarded the comics code!

The Senator: I haven't had work since Eternal Champions! I've got a family to feed!
Latrell Sprewell: Bitch, please.

TEH POTENTIAL

I can't wait for the unvieling because I'd really like to see what superheroes designed by boardroom committee look like.

I'm thinking

Hahahah, nice! Exactly what I was thinking of!

I have that comic...I wonder if it's worth anything because I'm guessing most people threw that peice of trash away...

I don't mean to add to the EA-hate (though I'm always up for that), but I think it would be VERY interesting to see a game like this made by Japanese developers.
