Early Hands-On With Killer 7!

Sorry, couldn't get passed the 2nd paragraph. Haven't read that much bullshit since Kasavin's PSP/DS damage control response! :)

The control system sounds broken but maybe it's better in practice than in theory.

Most likely the most fun thing about the game will be the media reaction: "Teenage suicide to soar: Nintendo game encourages wrist-slashing!"

So I guess it means "Play it for 20 minutes and you'll learn it"...which means most gamers will think "I have to learn something new? Fuck that" and not even try

I'll be buying this when it comes out, no doubt about it. Capcom are just on brilliant form this generation and this game now sounds like it's lived up to its potential

Many places have got their hands on Killer 7 now. Nintendo Power said that it will blend the lines between videogames, art, and film, like no other game has before.

yeah, i'm expecting this to be PN03-style splitting! :)

I'll happily throw myself on the K7 grenade and take one for the team.

Anything for Capcom *blows kisses at Capcom...*

SPEAKING OF WHICH! I FORGOT ABOUT THE TOTALLY AWESOME MONSTER HUNTER GOODIES>..... thread create GET...

actually i'll just put it here...

a collection of Monster Hunter figures - starting with Reolias. Really nice for monster hunter fans!

I still have to play a CAPCOM game this gen that dissapoints me...And this includes Chaos Legion, MNT and PN03...
Imo this gen even their worse crap is better than other's crap. Look at Namco's Nina's game/Breakdown or Konami's Cy Girls/Nanobreaker...Both are games in the same lines than the previous ones from Capcom but I find the Capcom's ones much more rewarding.

Bring it on Killer 7 !

hasnt the game changed a bit since e3?

anyway put me in the jumping on a grenade dcharlie camp.

I saw a preview of this game on G4 on demand. It's one of the most beautiful and insane things I have ever seen.

isn't it just?
I'm guessing people who say "looks like shit" have only seen the still shots (which do indeed look like ass)

yes i predict this to be the most absurd game ever. post modern indeed!

*hides from drinky crow*

I plan on taking one for the team as well. It doesn't sound as though it plays that far off from Snatcher, and I fucking loved that game. I imagine most of the apprehension comes from not hearing any gameplay impressions up until this year.

No... new... information. :(

On the other hand, there the Japanese K7 page has some new stuff:

Kaede's trailer:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/killer7/movie/03_kaede.zip

There's also some new, pixellated screens in the pictures section, and a new story in the story section worth checking out for the screens.

http://www.capcom.co.jp/killer7/main/menu.html

Edit: The more i think about it, the limited lateral movement makes sense. It allows for interesting camera angles while moving through a stage at a fast speed without having to worry about navigating around objects.

I'm definitely in too. Starting to look like the damage will be spread pretty wide. I'm not too worried - I love P.N.03.

Are their any recent vids floating around? I would really like to see it in motion.

Sounds intriguing.

I've watched the movies and it still looks like shit. My suspicion is that most of the people praising it haven't played Interstate 76, and thus have no idea how a minimalist art style should be done. The early shots of K7 looked great, but since then the style has been overworked to the mess it is now.

Plus the VA sounds fucking terrible, which doesn't surprise me coming from Capcom, but it doesn't bode well for a game that supposed to "blur the line" (which is a retarded statement to begin with, albeit one I'd expect from Nintendo Power).

The last video released before this one has a repeating line, which sounds as though it will get annoying after the hundredth time, and this one has one as well. :( I'm still getting it but having to listen to "hurts, doesn't it?" over and over won't be easy, I'm sure.

Oh, and I'm glad the wrist-cutting deal is somewhat out of sight. Is there an explanation as to why she cuts her wrists (I'm talking about self-harm) or is it just the fact that she needs blood for her special power and the wrists are just a convenient location?

For example, Kaede Smith can solve puzzles by… well… bleeding on things. Her special power is that her blood helps reveal the unseen so she slices her wrist and… well… bleeds.

Yeah I'm all for violence... but that's just sick. I guess I'm a pussy, but I don't really want to play a game wear I slit a girl's wrists to solve puzzles. I was previously really looking forward to this too, but now I'm having second thoughts.

the control scheme doesn't sound too good imo. if people bitched about re's/pn03's controls, i can't imagine the hate for killer 7. bomba status inevitable

i'm still gonna try it out though, at least through rental

Wow, so you guys really think this looks decent? You're not kidding? This is really one of the messiest sacks of shit I've seen in a videogame. The minimalist (or whatever they're calling it) look just isn't work. It's just a complete and utter mess.

It's already been prebooked for me a while ago (can't argue with $30 prebook at Gamerush) and on the Gamecube (which needs some more loving) As soon as Nintendo Power started drawing parallels between this game and a Takashi Miike movie, my anticipation started to grow (because what isn't more fucked up than a Takashi Miike movie :lol )

And not to deviate this topic, but where can I get my hands on those Monster Hunter figures DCharlie Enquiring fan boy minds need to know *wipes drool off chin*

The still shots really don't do the game justice at all. The game looks absolutely gorgeous in motion. I'll end up picking up the gamecube version of this, and I guess i'll bite the bullet and cough up fifty bucks for it.

Also, the writer of that article really needs to reconsider his writing style. "Visual jumbo jawbreaker." That's just pathetic.

I actually like the style. The first showing seemed TOO minimal in the presentation department.

The thing that I don't like that the image quality to a dive in the process. It's almost night and day between the original E3 trailer from a couple of years ago and the trailers that have been out since this past GDC.

Yeah even though we liked Killer 7's style back at it's original debut, the game has come so far in the graphics department since then. There's a lot more color, a lot more detail, everything just looks better. I personally can't wait for the game. I mean hey after playing the masterpiece that is RE4...I'm ready to give anything with Mikami's name on it no matter how convaluted the concept.

" My suspicion is that most of the people praising it haven't played Interstate 76, "
... but i've played Interstate 76...

... and i still think Killer 7 looks good...

... now what?

I actually like the number of different styles that are in the game, not just the minimalist stuff.

welcome to videogame VA. Outside of about 2 games, it's ALL shit. :(

As I said, I gave up at paragraph 2. Should've just cut to the chase and dropped the pretentious bullshit.

I am one of the ones that loved PN04.

So I know I trust this people and their fucked up control schemes if its anything like that experience and if it fits the gameplay. I also think that the game look like one of the most interesting concepts artistically and storywise Ive seen. So Ill give it a try, if only for support purposes. I think more gambles like this in this industry are needed.

I totally admire the creative team at clover studios and have high hopes for this one, minding that I really dont know what kind of gameplay experience, limited or not, to expect.

i played a bit of the I76 demo years ago, and ironically i was listening to the soundtrack yesterday. The combination of flat-shaded polys and a alternate retro timeline was genius, though i don't remember much of the gameplay. i'll give you that I76 is more minimal than K7 in most of the screens, though the former seems to be due to processor power moreso than an artistic direction. This old post of mine still holds:

It's an odd mix of an art deco-drenched film noir detective movie with a healthy dose of manga elements and a touch of contemporary design elements. i'm sure there's something i missed, but that sums it up for me.

i had another post which broke the style down in greater detail, but i think it was before Neo GAF and i really don't feel like going into it again.
Granted, the screens from the last four months or so don't look nearly as sex as the original video or shots shown nearly two years ago, but much of the look still remains.

The voice acting sounds decent if not great compared to the other games developed by Japanese developers. The catchphrases do get tired after the third usage though.

Regarding K7 as an "arthouse" game, it already is for those gamers looking. For the American mainstream, such a game would need to be developed in the US, or heavily localized. K7 doesn't reach that status, but it's arthouse enough for me. :)

It's one of the few games i'm preordering to make sure i get it on day one. i'm not expecting great gameplay, just a just an acid mindfuck storyline, which seems pretty much gauranteed.

Yeah, I couldn't bear to read all of the mindless dribble either. His analogies were horrible, childish, and absolutely pointless. Oh well, I have already made my mind up regarding Killer 7.

For example, Kaede Smith can solve puzzles by… well… bleeding on things. Her special power is that her blood helps reveal the unseen so she slices her wrist and… well… bleeds.

That reminds me a little of the only novel thing in Legend of Dragoon: in the Japanese version, Rose's Dragoon Attacks were all based around menstrual bleeding. IIRC, the animations are the same in the U.S. version, but they made the blood black so it's less obvious. It's still pretty disturbing/weird to see, though.

Even if the gameplay stinks which I doubt it will. I'm still going through this game because of its crazy abnormal storyline.
