Genesis is still a beast. The ship animations where it zooms into the battlefield and the one where it gets huge (stage clear screen) in a fluid look so good, wow. Must have been a lot of memory used on those animation frames alone. This is the first game in ages that got me really hyped up. Sorry GTAVI you might look "realistic" but I stopped getting impressed by realistic graphics a couple console generations ago.

Putting Yuzo Koshiro in the thread title was a good move. It made me do the scrolling equivalent of a double take and back up, and I'm glad I did

I've been following Yuzo's updates on this on his twitter account. Strangely happy to see the Steam description call out Beyond Oasis as one of his games - that was always my favorite of the Genesis games by Ancient.

I used to be a huge Genesis collector so it'll be hard not to pick up the physical cartridge - although I know I shouldn't, all that stuff is in storage now. I should just be content with Steam!

Youtuber Pixel Cherry Ninja is pretty excited for this game, partially joking calling it his game of the year. I kind of feel the same way, what year is it? It's bonkers to get games like this for the Gensesis hardware. I love this 2D revivial SOR4, TMNT, Gi Joe, Shiniobi just to name some of the more popular ones. Even better actual cartridge on actual hardware.

Black Jet Finger may have something to say about the best 2D style game of the year if it comes out this year. But it doesn't run on actual 2D hardware and has some 3D in it.

But man this Earthion looks fantastic and epic music pedigree too. What more could you ask for, its bascially a Thunderforce inspired looking game. Hopefulyl a chef's kiss. More love and passion in this game than most modern games. I hope it sells well for the devs.

I've been also following Yuzo's posts about his work on the game, but I'm still a bit baffled if

1) The main game has two versions, original MD/Genesis version pared down and then the PC/current gen consoles with more animation etc (either they have to use a 24mbit ROM for this or even larger, using the Pier Solar mapper/MD+, just the main ship animation is expensive as hell in sprite space)
2) There is only one game version that is playable on real MD/Genesis hardware and is just "ported" to modern consoles and PC (I wish this would be the case, but LRG will fuck up the physical MD version somehow)
3) The game does not have a MD/Genesis version, but it's made using a "MD" look and with the YM2612+PSG limitations in mind only for modern systems

The reason is that I read Yuzo writing the game with "Mega Drive limitations and output" in mind and I think he composed this with his MML system (which he used when dealing with MD).
