EB Employees/Managers - Help Needed!!

Today, I switched my Xbox with my extended service agreement because my savegames were magically erased.

I originally had a Controller-S system that I had purchased for $229.99, and I was given the MechAssault 2 pack today which also costs $229.99.

I just received a call from the EB clerk who did the exchange from me and said that I need to give back the MechAssault 2 game because the extended service agreement only covers the system itself and not any additional pack-ins. He told me that he could lose his job over this.

Can an EB Canada employee/manager please explain to me if this is true or not. Why would Microsoft require the game disc back?
 
What does the service have anything to do with you having to return the game? The game was free with the purchase of an Xbox. Don't return it, he's full of shit. A pack-in game isn't part of inventory, he wants to take it for himself.

He should have just swapped the unit itself I think. When I worked at EB, the only thing we would swap was the console and none of the peripherals or anything. Basically, we didn't give you a new box, just the system inside and put the other one in the box we just gutted to send back as defective.

So he might be right... though I doubt he'll lose his job. :-/ That definitely sounds like shit of the bull variety.
 
As I recall (from hanging around EBs far too often), don't employees have a company hotline they can call for weird situations like this? Calling a customer back with an ultimatum seems pretty odd.
 
It really depends on whether the current cost of a standalone Xbox console is the same as the one you got. Otherwise, he might have a point.
 
My first Rio PMP300 broke and I exchanged it at Best Buy. When I got the new one the lady took the batteries out of the box. :(

I'm gonna take the game back, of course. They've treated me well over the years, so I can appreciate this mixup and get it straightened out.

I was just wondering how this all worked. Thanks for sharing.
 
You shouldn't have to take the game back in. In fact, if you wanted, you could just take in the system, and they could remove the controller, power cord, etc., from the new one, and just give you the console itself. Of course, I speak from the U.S., so I don't know if that holds true for Canada. But I don't see why it shouldn't.
