EDGE 158 review scores

Did a quick search and haven't seen this posted anywhere: (taken from a thread elsewhere)

Dragon Quest VIII - 8
Perfect Dark Zero - 7
Ridger Racer 6 - 8
Amped 3 - 7
Infected - 5
The Movies - 7
Fatal Frame 3 - 7
Katamari Damashii PSP - 7
Animal Crossing - 8
Viewtiful Joe DS - 7
Ikusagami - 5
True Crime NYC - 4
50 Cent - 2

Go go RR6...very pleased EDGE could see the worth in this game. Amped 3 is also creeping onto my radar.

EDIT: Also the EDGE Awards from the same issue:

Awards: winner (runners up)
Best Game: RE4 (WOW, Battlefield 2)
Innovation: DS (Antigrav, Jungle Beat)
Visual Design: Killer 7 (RE4, SOTC)
Audio Design: Killer 7 (RE4, Darwinia)
Online Experience: Live Arcade (Wipeout Pure, Pocket Kingdoms)
Developer: Production Studio 4 (Ubisoft Montreal, Harmonix)
Publisher: Sony (EA, Nintendo)
Hardware: 360 (PSP, Micro)

not happy

Nothing surprising here. I'm interested to see what they liked about Amped 3 considering they loved the other two.

But how is it consistent with EDGE's ridiculous review policy? Where's the innovation in RR6?

Surely something doesn't need to be innovative to score an 8 in EDGE. I believe that is their criteria for a 10, but not an 8. Essentially I think if they believe a game is very good at what it does (innovation or no innovation) then it can score an 8. PGR3 scored an 9 in EDGE and I don't really see any innovation in that, just refinement of an existing concept, Gotham TV or no Gotham TV (and this isn't me hating on PGR3, just looking at what criteria is needed to score high). Still, I havn't read the review text of RR6 so it will be interesting to hear what they have to say. TBH though I did expect a lower score for RR6 from EDGE even though I do love it.

I really would like to read the text on 50 cent, I love it when edge shits on a game that deserves it.

I'm curious to know how Edge managed to scoop both Katamari PSP (not out yet) and Animal Crossing (only out in Japan and the US for about a week or two) so "early", given they probably went to press about a fortnight ago or so. Maybe they're well in with Namco and Nintendo these days, and got exclusives, but I can't remember them scooping titles as early on as this before.

Oh, and here are the EDGE awards from the same issue:

Developer: Production Studio 4 (Ubisoft Montreal, Harmonix)
Publisher: Sony (EA, Nintendo)
Hardware: 360 (PSP, Micro)

Interesting to see Killer 7 pick up a couple. Thoughts?

I would have given hardware to the PSP. Sony really delivered technically. A console on the other hand isn't nearly as constrained from a design perspective.

*shrugs*

I agree with every single one of those winners!

I think overall their awards look pretty much on the money to me. I like the fact they award Killer 7 where due (even if the game itself is somewhat lacking) and good to see Live Arcade pick something up this early on. ANyone else got any feelings one way or the other about these awards...this thread is very quiet.

RE4 winning over Wow doesn't compute imo.

God bless RE4 but Wow is a revolution in online gaming. It has been the numero uno videogame phenomen since it's release. It's such a expertly refined mmorpg it's just insane.
Im not an active player atm but I cannot give enough praise to Wow for what it has given.

Good to see Killer7 and Resident Evil 4 recognised - they definitely deserve it, and Resident Evil 5 and whatever Suda 51 comes up with next are my most anticipated games for sure.

Why does WoW keep getting GOTY when it was released last year?

It was Feb 2005 in Europe, hence this year for Edge.

Has Edge ever given a game a 1?

Just Kabuki Warriors, so far.

You've got to remember Edge only review a select set of games each month, so while there's been alot of games as bad (or worse) as Kabuki Warriors released, they've not coevered them.

PC games should have dominated. Then again its pretty much a console orientated mag.

Well your opinion doesnt worth much....since you switch camps easily..... :lol

Combined, Killer 7 seems like it would challenge RE4 for most nominations between the TOTY and GOTY awards. Heh. Good to see most publications giving it the props it deserves though.

Better than COD2? Yeah right.

MUCH better. COD2 is good but its not one of the best pc games this year. If you havent got the game buy it already.

If you think COD2 was awesome then you're only getting started on what pc gaming has to offer. :D Look up the killer RTS, FPS and online stuff on pc.

Speak or yourself. PC gaming was better qaulity than all 3 consoles combined this year. But yeah mouse and keyboard games do dominate.

Dude, I bought that POS BF2 when it came out, stupidly thinking they would have learned some lessons from BF. The amount of critical flaws and lack of polish should have disqualified the game from the start. Besides, multiplayer focused games are such easy bake things, making it hard to really respect the effort, especially when the effort in question is as half assed as it is in the case pf BF2

That's highly debateable. I think PC gaming is in the worst shape it has ever been.

If you prefer to just live breathe consoles then yes as always ;)

I don't. I probably played WoW and Guild Wars more than any other games this year. I just want PC gaming to be as good as it was over 10 years ago.

Didnt imply that i meant its a good thing you played two pc games more than anything :)

:lol I thought you were insulting my choice in pc games (as in no wonder he doesn't like pc games, going by the bad games he plays on it). Sorry for that reply.
