Edge says "if you don't care about graphics go play the original"

Agreed 100%. Konami should have given them the greenlight to change more.

They left in the area-to-area transitions for crying out loud. That was clearly a PS2 limitation choice and not an artistic one.

... By remaking THE THIRD game in a continuous series?

And no, NO ONE should play MGS in chronological order.
Well, depending on how well this game sells, the new fans might end up doing just that. I'm anticipating a "Metal Gear Solid Gamma" or "Metal Gear Solid Alpha" announcement within the next few years.

Whats wrong with echos of the end? Looks alright to me. like a 6 or 7 at least.
Just subtract 2 or 3 for Edge scores.

With all respect for Edge i don't want a reenvisioning.

The choice was to make a 1:1 and not f* up with what Kojima made.
If the game feels exactly like i'm playing the original with better graphics, don't tell me to go replay the original.

Having said that i agree that wider areas, no loadings would be a more modern experience.

I don't want a full reimagining either. I just wanted a bit more than the bare minimum. Connecting the areas instead of keeping the loading screen transitions should qualify under that.

I was actually shocked that no insiders spoke out against it during preview events.

dude there is no load at all it goes from a black screen to gameplay immediately.
They shouldn't exist in the first place. C'mon R rkofan87 you at least have to meet me halfway there lol. We both are MGS 3 fans here but it was an odd development decision.

i get it i can tell you something we can see eye to eye on mgs4 60fps or death.

I fully agree. Right now we are at a crossroads though.

Konami could either try and figure out how to get MGS4 running on modern systems and PC without using fan-made emulators, or they could have Virtuous do what they just did with MGS3, but for MGS 4.

So you aren't really missing much if you opted for the HD edition of MGS 3..
You will get a superior method of control and aiming, a slightly better moving (less stiff) Snake, a new quick menu system for camo, much faster loading screens, and a new version of MGO with a new name behind it.

If you don't care about any of this, then don't bother, because everything else is literally the same, level layout/voice acting and all, with altered color grading.

The game feels like you're playing the original with better graphics plus QoL stuff and bonus content. If you like 3, you like Δ simple as that.

If they changed, people would be all over it saying Konami destroyed Kojima's vision. Me too by the way.

I may agree that Edge is better served by playing FF7 Remake Trilogy and having fun with Aerith and Zack.

Whether you like it or not, FF7Remake so far is the only remake series to have actually done something interesting and creative with it's OG entry.

And it adds nothing to the experience except for a graphical upgrade. They had 1000000 ways to enhance the experience and they did nothing. Zero.

A 7/10 is generous.

Looking through a lot of the reviews, most seem to be deducting points for it being a creatively dull straight 1:1 remake.

Kacho Kacho Why did you quote yourself just to bring culture war talking points into the discussion? No one is even defending that game lol.

Are you fishing for replies?
I guess if I was it worked with you.

But no, I was just answering my own question and quoting myself for context. Doing my own research as they say. Nothing to have a meltdown over.

Very creative indeed.

I prefer Resident Evil 2/4 or even Shadow of the Colossus if we're talking remakes. Just a preference.

No worries and no meltdown man. It wasn't the game that made me reply, it's just that your post to yourself almost made me spit my drink out :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I guess if you want to count mine sure, it will be a free +1.

I wasn't the only one asking what it was. It was more educational. Not stirring up shit. The slop speaks for itself and has already come and gone. Wasn't even worthy of controversy. Brutal!

Every issue of Edge I own (Issue 14 to present)
Thumbing through a few today.
It really is remarkable how dull it has become, such a dry, joyless slog.
Anyone who regularly reads Edge, knows that the reviews are the least of it's problems.

Blimey.
I have issues 1 to ~200 then I stopped buying mags. I enjoy flicking back through old copies, especially at the previews for games that never came out.
