What is kick-off compared to standard eFootball which is F2P? The description doesn't really say a lot.

as someone whos been playing pes since the days it was called iss pro evolution, its sad to see what the series has become.
No, you've just failed to give eFootball a chance and upgrade your skills with the new abilities to express yourself in football terms if you are drawing that type of in correct conclusion IMHO.

ISS/WE/PES was always excellent but it had nothing on this engine when playing at a high level. It is virtually impossible to score a bad goal in eFootball at a high level because the skill required to work the opportunity results in a graceful close range chipped or curled effort, or some power shot netbuster from a counterattacked half pitch lofted through ball into the opposite pitch half space.

Even at a basic level where you are sprinting with your playmaker past the halfway line, release sprint topgun style and watch one of your attackers drift from their marker to pass or through ball to them is football at about ten levels above competing products, never mind the depth of the defending in it.

The only problem I have with this eFootball, is that it isn't on SW1 and isn't compatible with the mainline F2P version on PlayStation.

I don't know how you know whether they have gave eFootball a chance or not, but I can tell you I have, and it absolutely fucking sucks.

The UI and constant pop ups when you try to do anything on load or post match are just mobile level microtransaction bait spam horseshit. Trying to find what you want in the mess of the menus is a pain in the ass. Just trying to exit the game without alt+f4 was even a piss take on PC.

Gameplay wise eFootball has never reached the level and polish of an actual PES game. PES used to be considered more "realistic" (not simulation or anything) than FIFA, but the development got so bad when it went free to play, the quality dropped off hard. It has never felt good playing eFootball when you expected or wanted the quality of PES. They just went full EA and focused on the gambling side of things while the actual game suffered.

What? That applies to all GaaS games and anyone with 100 or more hours in a game(per year in this case, 500 probably to play to high-level) will more than adjust to a UI even on a niche platform for what is a console first game, and has been since PS1.

Feel free to upload a video of your old PES and current eFootball depicting the differences that you think make the gameplay a step backwards. Anything I could do in pre-F2P PES I can express less rigidly in eFootball, and the attack/defence dynamic reflects the real game of football even better, now.

A depiction of a Premier league low block is just one example of this. I was playing the other day, and after a minute of camping out on the opposition box, recycling the ball, hitting the woodwork did I then see all 10 opposing out field players drop back along and behind the 18yard box line, and that cross over between real football and PES has never been closer IMO.

If I get a chance I'll capture a match and upload it here to make my point about it just being a lack of experience for most old PES hands, and to show how much more expressive the game has become. but here is an old video I've shared on GAF before of a good goal in old PES.

Last paid PES 2021, master league goal with a poor stats player, but it will show just how rigid/time locked the old animations were and by eFootball standards how little options I had to do anything different in the passage of play and still score.

As for the gambling point. I still haven't bought any currency, or spent any money on eFootball, yeah I haven't be able to acquire players I would like such as: Beckham, Owen, Batistuta, etc that have been briefly offered but developing a all star XI, good enough to win the league or give anyone's AI team a game isn't difficult at all.

To this day PES 2021 is the last great football game released for this generation (for those who are more interested in not having multiplayer thrown at you...) this is a perfect example of the decline of a genre that used to be competitive...but it seems as years go by, you won't even be able to get a single player based football game...

If you think I am going to do homework for something widely agreed upon and not exactly serious, then sorry. The point that it is a free to play Gaas is a massive negative too, thats also the point.
Yeah, you can grind until the sun comes up for the chance to get currency to gamble for the chance to get a player you want, that is if they arent locked behind special event loot boxes / balls. Every free to play game is practically the same "you can earn this all just by playing" but the reality is you need to grind to a point it becomes a job. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones that can pull packs and get instant top tier players, if so, congrats, but that isn't the norm or how they've purposely coded it.

Also, please stop talking about "lack of experience", you honestly come across like you are trying to gatekeep. I'm not claiming to be some pro player or someone that spends 8 hours a day playing online matches, but I've also been football games for well over 30 odd years at this point, and there become a point were innovation in gameplay didn't advance much, if at all, it was just tweaked. eFootball feels fine to play today, but it has nothing on past games.

I don't feel it is gatekeeping to ask people that are asserting strong opinions about something they claim is rubbish or inferior to something old - that I fundamentally disagree with- to substantiate those points fairly/honestly.

Your comments on the pay to win setup of eFootball or grinding sounds like you are talking about a different game because everyone literally gets handed lots of top tier players every version/update (Messi, Neymar, Ribery, Bale, Ronaldo etc, etc) just from the daily penalty challenges and for rewards from playing the game -such as playing offline games in league versus AI, or Ranked against AI versions of real players' teams - and you get experience points, skill and positional cards to level up your players all the time.

I can honestly say it has never felt like grinding after being able to buy one regular card player of a good play maker(Bruno Fernandes) and levelling them up. I'm not looking to convince you the game is the best for any other reason than IMO lots of old hand PES players are missing out on the best real footy gameplay experience ever, and mainly IMO because they are reluctant to reinvest some of the time and effort they once put into ISS/WE/PES 20-30years earlier - despite so much of what was great in PES still being there as-is or enhanced.... once you map the controls for PES rather than the FIfa defaults.

It felt like gatekeeping in terms of you saying multiple times about "not having experience" so it felt dismissive of anyones opinion.

Well, when I last played about 1.5-2 years ago, you could absolutely get big name players, but for single player only, either permanently or on loan, and most importantly, not for trade (same as FIFA). If you wanted to play online in matches, the big named players either cost millions of one currency or would cost X amount of real money to use the gambling game, hoping to get the same drop in a pack.

Just to be clear, without any sarcasm or bullshit, I am glad you can find enjoyment in the series still, because I (and alot of people in general) miss what the series used to be. I am not trying to affect your fun, but the criticism on the direction and lack of effort the series has gone with feels justified.

I dont know if this is a serious response or you work for konami but you're dreaming, e football is rubbish. It's so bad people still cling on to modded pes 21 and even pes 6, or play whatever nonsense of a football game ea pushes out every year because there are no other options. If you enjoy it well done, but its a terrible game and no one cares about it, Konami knows this too or else they'd put some real effort into it and charge full price if they felt like they had a winner, instead of releasing a half assed f2p mobile game.

Here is a recent match I captured against the AI a legends difficulty. For me it is still just ISS Pro Evo, Winning Eleven 6FE, PES 2021, but better. As I play it using so much of 30year old play style, but feel free to critique and tell me where it looks so much different that it sucks.

I still think you're joking, that looks terrible. Anyway, if you like it good for you man.

In what way, specifically does it look terrible by comparison to say PES 2021 or EA FC?

I'm pretty sure I could do videos of 2021, Winning Eleven 6 FE Evolution (Cube) with English menu mod, ISS Pro Evo 2(ps1) playing on PS3 and show many of the same move list in similar attack and defensive situation, just with less motion fidelity against less representative AI.

The game is still 1000x better than the crap from any other footy game publisher IMO, so I would need you to hold up an example of what you consider is a good passage of football play in another football game for me to gauge how serious your opinion is. From your lack of substantiation of what is wrong in what I quickly captured, and a seemingly fake projection of me "joking" with my opinion, you come across more like a tester of another footy game that monitors forums and talks down other footy games. Hopefully not, but if not do you even know what you want from a PES game in gameplay - if that 90% original PES and 10% modernized PES in eFootball isn't it?

its not that deep man, just enjoy it if you like it.

Man I miss PES so much. It was inconsistent towards the end but 2010, 2012, 2017 and 2020 were all fire.
While I don't really like these games, I agree that PES should return. I would love for EA to get some serious competition again so they actually have to put in some effort and not let the whole fucking company be carried by EA Sports bullshit.

Does it have any worthwhile offline mode?

Sorry, I haven't touched the game for a year because every time I tried it before, it was disappointing.

Looks like a mobile game. PES 2021 is clear both in graphics and animations.

I will never forget what they did. We were told they were taking a year off to make a state of the art game on Unreal Engine. Instead they were making something that could run on an old Samsung Galaxy and a PS5 at the same time.

Don't care about perfection, just give me a football game good enough to have fun on my Switch 2. Offline matches, tournaments, master league ish mode and I'm in.

The lightweight smartphone and the full fat console versions can compete together, but the mobile version plays differently, has a fraction of the responsiveness, animations, physics, Ai decision making and strategy options, unlike the console version which is a massively uprated version of 2017 or 2021.

My video above from 2021 (and the 2017) shows how time locked the animations are in older PES compared to the PS5(eFootball) dynamic animation blending and user input that can break those advanced animation sequences in a fraction of the time giving far more varied gameplay than PES 2017 - even showed using a fluid Barcelona for that stiffer gameplay.
