EGM rumors - Dec 2005 (sequels, sequels, SEQUELS!)

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
Just got my issue. Here's the quick writeup of the rumors

-Death Jr sequel, next year on consoles and PSP
-Sequel to Gitaroo man(!!!!!) on PS2, currently in development. And HEADING TO THE U.S. (!!!!)
-Midnight Club game on X360 next year
-Soul Calibur 3 on X360 next Spring
-Kojima working on Revolution...possibly working on a classic Nintendo franchise (WHAT?!)

And about the GTA "extensions" that was mentioned in Rockstar's earning reports...they mention that the extensions are probably not GTA sequels for next gen but rather Vice City or another sequel for the PSP. And that Rockstar wants to wait till X360/PS3 have a good installed base before bringing in next gen GTA

oops, didnt realize these were posted...didnt know they were in the reviews thread

Rumors suck. I can start rumors too if i want :(

Boktailution!
Comes bundled with solar adaptor. You can only play in the day time!
Use the nunchaku to be super stealth and slice throats in MGS:R!

Also. Does Death Jr. deserve a sequel?

i hope they're wrong about the Kojima rumor. he should do whatever he wants. although if he paticularly wants to work on this nintendo ip, well, more power to him.

maybe he asked to work with it?

hmm kojima working on classic nintendo ip? sounds very much like a rumor and nothing more :/ (though I wish)

Interesting to say the least...let the speculation begin. Kid Icarus?

I wonder if it's a franchise that's been long dormant, or if he's helping out with one of the current ones.

So if the Kojima/team acid rumor is true, what type of game would it be? What else has team acid done?

Classic Nintendo franchises? Start naming peoples!
I'll name what I'm sure he would never work with:
Kid Icarus
Mother
Mario
Kirby
Donkey Kong
F-Zero
Star Fox
Metroid

too bad it's only a rumor, I've learned my lesson

They should put Kojima on the Starfox franchise since it's already ruined. Besides, it's known for it's radio chatter between the main characters. I bet he would like that...

I don't think we need a 10minute dialog about how Slippy feels about the mission while fighting a boss

I would like to see Kojima make a new Famicom Detective Club. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been trying to remember the name of that title for days (for various different reasons)

You are talking about the trilogy that started out life as a famicom disc system game, right?

Anyway it's the game I would like to see Kojima do for the Rev as well.

Once more, not gonna happen EGM. Stop getting peoples hopes up. Sony owns WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS to the game. Soul Calibur 4? Possible. Soul Calibur: Very Cool Soul Edge edition? Might be so. SC3? Impossible.

How can you be so sure it wouldnt be Kid Ic? The rest obviously he wont be working on, and i aint so sure he would be given Zelda either. Fucker didnt give us MGS2, he doesnt deserve Zelda!

Kid Icarus is the only game i can think of. However i would LOVE a metroid game from him. This would free up Retro to do something new. Having an original Retro developed game along with a Kojima Metroid is much better than another Retro Metroid and some random Kojima game. Not to slant the Prime series, but i think this would be fucking sweet.

As long as you mentioned it, why exactly was SCIII Sony exclusive? No one ever gave a clear answer.

Yes. I can not remember the japanese name. EADNinja would know. :)

I'm sitting here, thinking about how those classic sniper fights from the MGS series might translate to Kid Icarus.

I feel so strange. Like I'm watching a coin fall slowly, slowly, slowly from the sky. Heads, all the cupcakes I could ever eat. Tails, a kick in the balls twice a day for a year.

Who cares if it's called the same thing as long as long as we know what it is. Just upgrade change it a bit and change the name to Soul Calibur 360 :lol

It's not a really complicated story, I don't think. EA seemed to have its sights on releasing SCIII for all three systems, just like SCII. However, Sony came in and purchased worldwide distribution rights for what is apparently a much higher price so that it's exclusive. And that's the same reason you won't see Soul Calibur III on any non-Sony system (except perhaps PSP). In fact, it was specifically mentioned at the site:

One of the biggest and best beat 'em up games around is set to return to PS2 (and only PS2) this October. Wrestling the massive series from the grasp of Electronic Arts, our very own Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will be publishing Soul Calibur III exclusively on our beloved console. What's more, Sony has the worldwide rights, so you won't see SCIII on any other console... anywhere... ever (unless we eventually see a PSP version, of course).

Namco then switched focus on porting across platforms to creating content that would make the exclusive more appealing.

So for emphasis: Soul Calibur 4? Possible. Soul Calibur: Very cool Soul Edge edition? Sure. But SCIII:Special Edition, SCIII, Soul Calibur III:360 Is Awesome, SCIII: Rev Controller Swingin' Edition? No.

Ah, okay. Makes sense. I didn't know Sony bought the distribution rights. Thanks.

As for the rumors, Kojima should make Kid Icarus. That would be interesting.

AFAIK he never worked on anything with a mythological or fantasy theme

I don't know why you guys are so surprised by the Kojima on Rev thing, in every interview he says he likes it.

oooohhhhh Gitarooo Man! Helz yes!

-Death Jr sequel, next year on consoles and PSP

Rumored? Please... Jon Goldman said they were doing it in a recent interview...

Let me see if I can find it.

Ah here at Next Gen .

"Sales have been good. It was the number three PSP title in August, and it was only on the market for two weeks of that month. It's charting ahead of expectations. We're working on other DJ products now," says Goldman

When queried about the possibility of seeing DJ on other platforms, Goldman says "There’s nothing we can really discuss now, but when we talk about cross-media, we want to create franchises that bridge across market segments, media and consumer products. For things like Death Jr., it's going to be critical that we reach across to other platforms and other gamers."

I saw it coming a mile away. The PSP game was great hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes and create a much better experience, the franchise definetely has potential.

-Midnight Club game on X360 next year

Cool if true. Somehow I don't think R* can pump out yet another MC so soon, it took MC3 a while to come out. MC are my favorite racing games but its obviously coming to PS3 I mean duh!!!

Another PSP game would rock!!!

*heart attack*!!!!!!!!!!

I would go into "Isamu" mode, but meh, I'm too tired. How accurate are EGM rumors usually?

Usually 60/40, but lately it's been like 30/70. They've gotten tons of PS3 rumours incorrect recently, just for starters.

Not too precise. They tried to say that iD and Bioware have exclusive PS3 games in development, we saw how that turned out

Way pumped about Gitaroo-Man, but I'm a little skeptical.

The first one sold like utter crap both here and abroad. I'm pretty sure Koei still holds the IP, and it makes no darn logistical sense to make a sequal to what had to be their lowest selling stateside release this generation.

Of course similar things could be said about Winback, and they are going ahead with that anyway(Freaking Awesome). Maybe they have been emboldened by the success of the also acid-inspired Katamari Damacy.

fingers crossed.

ps
considering Kojima's affinty for mech's, I wouldn't be surprised to see him dabble in...

or

or considering the novelty of the new thing, it could be...

Possible franchises Kojima might work on:

Pilotwings
Mario Paint
Doshin the Giant
Legend of Starfi
Giftpia
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Hamtaro Game 5
Excitebike
Courtside 2006

I believe he wants to try something new.

That means that Inis is working on two projects at the same time :
Gitaroo man 2 ps2 and an untitled x360 game.

more games from the creators of Ouendan = me happy :D
