EGM scores and rumors thread (Sept 05 issue)

-Although Bioware, iD Software, and Valve have exclusive PS3 games being developed, the three will also be developing for the X360.

I think EGM got mixed up on this one. It should be the other way around, right?

I played the Hulk demo. It rocks city blocks (literally). Looking forward to checking out the final version...

Faith restored, thanks Bish.

No. It was a Q&A about those companies jumping ship to Sony. EGM was reassuring xbots that those companies would still support X360, just not to the same extent as PS3.

I kind of discount this guy's opinion in relation to my own because he compares it to GoW too many times and doesn't like this 3D Zelda largely for being like other 3D Zelda's. Aside from the camera issues which we'll have to wait and see on.

Comparing Zelda to God of War is very weird. And Zelda's camera looked fine in the demo. Identical in fact to past Zeldas... Well, whatever, I haven't played the game. We'll see.

I don't think I was *ever* excited for Death Jr, GaimeGuy. Ever. My agenda kept me from publicly mocking it, but I'm also completely unsurprised that it turned out crappy.

Truth be told, I'm surprised Midnight Club 3 PSP got the scores it did -- it's pretty weak. Still, whatever helps keep the PSP on top in the US is fine by me!

:lol I love how you are unapologetic about your bias. :lol

Usually when someone is accused of having an agenda they tell you how they own every system with 60 games for each. Proving how they are not a fanboy.

--Will the Rev's controller alienate developers?
--Don't worry about that; worry about the fact that we think the Rev's going to beat PS3 and X360.

That's what i call confidence... :lol

Did iwata actually said that?

Thats what I call bad paraphrasing :)

EGM: You said the that Revolution controller would be unique-- do you worry about it alienating developers?

Iwata: Well of course, the idea is that the revolution will sell sell and sell so it becomes the standard in the industry. However at least for the launch period... we design the controller so it can play any type of different conventional styles. After all we're talking about it playing games from our past machine. so don't worry about that.

Wind Waker wasn't really such a hard game, so I kinda like what that guy said about the battles. One of the most integral elements to the Zelda experience is the atmosphere. It looks like this one has it down in spades.

And about the camera system, I'm not worried about it. Most of the time i'm fiddling around with the 'free angle' anyway (and it's highly flexible).

The poor recent spate of Xbox games has made me decide to freeze my collection until the X360 launches. When my copies of Rallisport Challenge and Outrun 2 arrive, they will be the last Xbox games I buy.

(If I have any willpower. Which I probably don't.)

EGM: Will there be another Pikmin game?
Shiggy: Nothing set in stone, but Rev's interface is well suited for Pikmin.

It's a clue!

And a love for Pikmin!

EGM: Some people are saying Nintendo has given up trying to lead technologically and is focused on innovation.

Iwata: I don't think Revolution graphics will be inferior in any fashion to those on Xbox 360 or PS3. Even if you look at Zelda on Gamecube -- I don't think that it looks inferior to what [the competition] is touting as 'next-gen' visuals

Fuck these mixed messages. Zelda doesn't look inferior to what competition touts as next-gen visuals? Is that his standard?

I'm so confused.

wow. ani where did you get that? how can Nintendo screw up the camera in a 3d Zelda? TP isn't their first 3d Zelda. I mean what the fuck is going on? I hope that guy is kidding or something.

The guy who wrote it sounded like he was full of shit. His chief complaint was that the camera is always focused on Link from a (somewhat) lower angle, which is just how it works in Zelda.

Edit: Funny!

Yeah, I'm glad we both agree it's pretty funny how wrong their review is.

Should have been more right like IGN.

Why didn't EGM review Nintendogs or the other DS games for August?

Bais indeed. :lol

Maybe because they weren't ready? Jesus christ, not everyone is really that biased. They won't NOT review a game because they don't like Nintendo. Shit that's stupid.

Good to know though, that EGM still has little credibility. Sonic R is still fun as hell, as I played it about a month ago.

I just completely hate EGM's reviews these days. When they review Mega Man games, calling them "too hard" (Zero series, Network Transmission, maybe X8 -- can't remember that one too well), something's up.

post what they said sucked about Death Jr.

from what i remember, they basically said it's repetitive and poor platforming (like psone era). shoe complained about the game making him sick from the ghosting i think

Rumors:

-Recently, Sega signed on Secret Level to remake one of its franchises. It turns out that Sega is looking for more developers in the West to remake some more classics like Space Harrier, Daytona and Goldenaxe. Silicon Knights anyone?

EGM can't read?
[...]SEGA and Silicon Knights will collaborate on creating a new franchise for next generation console systems.[...]

what the fuck at you avatar? that ain't right

Why doesn't EGM do this: instead of giving Game of the Month to the average best score (which is unfair, because different reviewers review different games), they have everyone on the Review Crew, out of the games reviewed that month, vote on what should get game of the month.

I'd be incredibly shocked if Meteos or AWDS didn't get game of the month that way.

Sonic Gems Collection review

Shane (6.5): Sonic CD = awesome. Other games = not as great. Sonic the Fighters feels dated, dumbed down VF. Sonic R feels like clunky onfoot racing with horrible music. Streets of Rage games gone = bleh.

G.Ford (5.5): While Sonic CD is the 'anchor' of the collection, it's more of a wild card. Change-each-level's future concept is great, but steps to achieve objectives frustrating. Rest of games are mildly enjoyable (Sonic Triple Threat, Tails Adventure), to bad (Game Gear Sonic Spinball and Sonic Drift 2)

Jeremy (6.5): Sonic CD is cool, but most of the 90s-era games just arent fun. Tails games are garbage. Unlockables are lame.

Old games feel dated! News at 11!

STF feels like a dumbed down VF because it IS! You're playing with god damn colourd animals!

AND he's a hatin' on Sonic R's music! Burn him!

The Valve rumour works on some levels (I was wondering wtf Gabe was doing talking about next-gen console coding) - and whilst I can believe Valve is working on next-gen console games, I find it much more difficult to believe that any will be exclusive to PS3 (or X360 for that matter). Unless EGM means a console exclusive - it'll still be on PC - but I don't see why Valve would favour one system over another for a PC port.

Bioware is rumoured since E3 to have a PS3 game in the works, but again I'd be surprised if it was exclusive. It'd be ever so nice if it was connected to the KoTOR rumours.

This comes from someone who has played a rather lengthy version of TP. To my surprise, it aint looking too good. :(

Seems very fake. No one complained at the camera in the E3 demo.

Enough with the Zeruda confusion.

Being a huge fan of the original NES and SNES The Legend of Zelda games, and more recently its latest 3D incarnations, I was expecting Eiji Aonuma's mature reincarnation of The Legend of Zelda to be huge. Unfortunately, blindly going into the game having such high expectations was a mistake.

Being a huge fan of the original NES and arcade Ninja Gaiden games, and more recently the entire Dead or Alive series, I was expecting Tecmo's Xbox reincarnation of Ninja Gaiden to be huge. Unfortunately, blindly going into the game having such high expectations was a mistake.

Most PlayStation 2 owners should remember Sony's similarly over hyped Killzone. I'd almost go as far as proclaiming The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to be the Gamecube equivalent.

I find that very hard to believe.

So Bioware, id and Valve plan on supporting Sony more than Microsoft? That's kind of strange (barring Bioware - we've been hearing that for awhile). id has Quake 4 for the Xbox 360, and Quake Wars is rumored. Valve, on the other hand, really hasn't announced much at all.

I'm not buying it.

Hey Q man is only human. I'd bet that the only way we see Valve games on next gen consoles is if somebody else ports em.

Yeah, Valve isn't going console exclusive with any title. Unless they are doing what ID is doing with Return to Castle Wolfenstein 2 and outsource it to a different developer. Maybe it's like CounterStrike CELL or something.

The whole bioware - PS3 rumor was based on that they were at the PS3 conference. That's all there is to it.. OTOH it is known that bioware is developing at least two games with MGS..
