EGM Top 10 Bosses ...do you agree?

Ok. It seems EGM put up a decent group of boss fights in their list that they published in this months magazine. They are:

10. Mike Tyson Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!!
9. Stage 3 R-Type
8. De Rol Le Phatasy Star Online
7. Alma Ninja Gaiden
6. Nemesis Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
5. Seven Force Gunstar Heroes
4. The End Metal Gear Solid 3
3. Mother Brain Super Metroid
2. Psycho Mantis Metal Gear Solid
1. Sephiroth Final Fantasy VII

HONORABLE MENTION:
Legion Castlevania Series
Bowser Super Mario Series
Ganon Zelda Series
----------

My only real beef with this is the Psycho Mantis pick at #2. I thought he was cool, sure... but he wasn't even the coolest boss in that game, let alone one of the ten best ever. What about Liquid? Huh?! "You were always the favorite, brother!" Of course, I'm biased cuz I think Liquid was arguably one of the best baddies ever, but whatever.

What's the GAF take?

1. Sephiroth Final Fantasy VII

Sephiroth is not the best boss in gaming history, he was weak sauce. I hate these top 10's EGM has been putting in lately.

The honerable mentions are better than anything on the list proper. :lol

Say what you will for Sephiroth as a villain, but he was a total wuss as a boss and does NOT belong there.

Also, they missed Metal Gear Rex, that was the coolest boss battle ever up until when that game came out, and it's still awesome, and belongs on this list.

Although I've no qualms with FFVII or Sephiroth (surprisingly enough), he does not deserve a top slot. Fitting for mood, but not exactly the BEST boss. Except for his SUPER NOVA move, mm mmm.

Imo, The End should be #2 or #1, as I cannot think of any boss I've ever enjoyed more. Also, I know it made honorable mention, but I wish Legion could replace the Sephiroth spot, but in position like 6 or so.

Shit Revolver is arguably as cool as Liquid (though I do love Liquid very much). But to only have Bowser and Ganon as honerable mentions? For shame EGM!!

psycho mantis above the end? Bleh.

And what about Tidal Wave, the largest boss in a game ever (transformers)?

Sephiroth was a lame boss, way too easy and that stupid spell he cast that blew up every planet took forever (he already blew Pluto up 3 times WTF!)

sephiroth was like the lamest boss ever. The game itself was the best buildup towards the last boss mind you. The in-game hype fell flat!

Needs more Kefka, and Magus is better than a few up there to. Seph is the shit, I would have had Mother Brain up there. YOu can make a case for most MGS1,2, and 3 Boss Fights, but The End is probably the most immersive boss fight I've ever encountered. Nemesis sucked, he just suprised the hell out of you. Alma was intense but ehh I don't know about that.

Definately. I'd say the skeleton boss in the circular cave in ninja gaiden was better than alma.

alma wasn't the best boss fight in NG, she was just the hardest. There is a big difference.

i also think "the end" should have been higher.

edit// and my favorite boss fight this whole gen was metroid prime... it was intense and fun, and it was hard enough to make me play it several times.

Nothing compares to defeating Ganondorf in OOT, escaping the collapsing castle, thinking the game is over, and having Ganondorf rise from the rubble reborn as Ganon!!

Greatest.Boss.Intro.Ever.

Alma actually gave me the least amount of problems compared to the rest of Ninja Gaiden. I don't even really remember the Alma fight (weren't there like... two?)

What's this top 10 about? For most fun, toughest, most well thought out or...?

ANUBIS ZoE's.
Got a kick out of Killer 7's bosses too.
Tekken 5's Jinpachi was quite something to fight.

:D

The last guy from Shinobi should be on any top10 bosses list.

well looking back at old old games... the last guy from mega man 2 was top notch... that pattern took a lot of practice to master.

heh, I meant the PS2 Shinobi but I do agree some Mega Man guys should be in there :)

the first alma fight has to be what they are talking about... it wasn't really that interesting, just difficult... there was no real pattern to memorize and it didn't take brain power to beat her, just pure twitch skill. It was a fun boss fight but there were better ones in the game.

edit// and just to clarify, my favorite boss fight in NG was probably the dragon.. he wasn't that hard, but he was one of those bosses that would absolutley own you until you figured out how to beat him, then he was a piece of cake... i like those kinds of bosses...

The End should be number one, and the Boss should be on the list.

Also Gygas from Earthbound should be in the top 3 because it's one of the most creative RPG end bosses ever.

The MGS3 pick should have been The Boss instead of The End. Sure, The End fight is fantastic, but after all the build up, the emotion, and then the payoff... The Boss fight is just incredible. Not to mention the imagery and music (
Snake Eater theme playing when time gets down to 3 minutes
). Should have been #1.

As great as that fight was, it was not as inventive or intense as THE END battle. The End is just a notch above, brilliant design.

100% Agree.

krauzer from RE4 is in my top 10

mostly thanks to the aweosme QTE knife battle and the conversation during the 2nd fight oh, and the music was badass too

I didn't think Sephiroth was that hard, either. The Boss that absolutely gave me fits whom I have never beaten was Ultimecia from FF8. you really do have to get a high level to beat it, unlike most other RPG bosses I've ever fought.

I find it fascinating how much FF7 is overhyped. Its a great game, maybe even a classic but whenever there is a Top 10 anything, FF7 is guaranteed to be on there.

Sepiroth does not belong on that list. Jenova should take his place.

No you don't. There's some REALLY easy ways to exploit the whole Ultimecia battle.

And If you've even saved certain items, you could go a long time or the entire battle without even getting hit.

yeah but, it makes no sense.

That list is incomplete without Verdugo

Well, I can't comment on the list itself, as I haven't played over half the games on it. Either way, the last boss from the first Serious Sam should have a mention somewhere, simply for being the biggest boss I've ever seen in an FPS game.
