Alex Garland is an amazing writer and director. Whatever you expect this movie to be, it won't be. He is a huge fan of the game. I am confident he will at least nail the tone and visuals of it. Which will be very cool to see

The story of Elden is so esoteric that it allows a bunch of creative freedom in that department

I have zero hopes for this movie. Also not the biggest fan of Alex Garland, well, atleast when it comes to the two movies I've seen from him, Ex Machina and Annihilation.

Who knows, he might knock it out of the park, doubt it, won't know until I've seen it.

Are they going to hire a trans character for Miquella? 90% of the ER players don't even know an ounce of story/lore because if they did, they'd realize what a complete nonsense mess it is. 0 chances for this to turn out good. Hopefully they hire at least the best vfx artists in the industry.

The way Eldren Ring indirectly tells the story, I don't know if a movie would work.

It would be like when the first Dune came out.

It's being helmed by one of the most talented individuals in the industry. Also someone who isn't afraid to make an adaptation his own. And it's being produced by A24, a studio known to foster creative freedom and to prioritize the art and story rather than maximum box office success.

If there was ever an adaptation Elden Ring that had a chance to be great, this is it.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of all this, considering that no one knows the lore and plot of this game (well, without watching videos on YouTube about the lore). And they will need to somehow write a script for this.
But it's generally suspicious that the set was left out in the open, behind an ordinary fence. Therefore, the possibility that this is Topher's backyard can't be ruled out. :messenger_grinning:

I bet this is actually like that willy Wonka experience thing.

In a few days there will be videos on YouTube about people spending £1000 to ride round a field on a donkey named torrent

There's never been a movie that needs to exist less than this.

I hope it's good for those who wish it to be, though I fail to see how it could be with the writing in From Games. Would love to be wrong though.

Alex Garland is the only reason I'm at least somewhat optimistic about this, he has an incredible track record and made some of my alltime favourite movies.

Also, the Dark Souls 2 CGI trailer shows that you can create something amazing with zero dialogue and like 5 lines of lore. There is insane potential here.

(side track but it is fucking crazy how much better this trailer is in terms of atmosphere, enemy design, area design and conveying emotion than the actual game)

The whole movie is just going to be a silent protagonist running around reading notes and stone carvings while fighting guys in green suits. DOA!

Alex Garland is great when you exclude "Men". What the fuck was that?

Anyway, I'm hyped for this. I'm down for it being arthouse as fuck with a silent protagonist but I doubt the studio would let him go for that - even if he wanted to.

Nothing confirmed from what I can see but some more movie news/rumors:

"Nick Offerman Joins Alex Garland's 'Elden Ring'"

"An update on Alex Garland's "Elden Ring," which I tackled over the weekend and is set to start production this week: Nick Offerman has joined the cast in Scotland.

Offerman joins Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny — more actors will surely be announced in the coming days. He previously played the U.S. President in Garland's "Civil War," released in 2023.

Released in 2022 and co-created with George R. R. Martin, "Elden Ring" sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. It's being backed by A24, which is eyeing a 2027 release for the film."

It also seems they are starting filming this week.

Filming is gearing up on Alex Garland's live-action feature Elden Ring for A24.

Production is reportedly taking place on location across the UK, including Scotland. A24 declined Screen's request for comment.

Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Ben Whishaw are starring in the adaptation of the popular video game which was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki with "world building" from Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin, who is executive producing the film.

Plot details remain under wraps but the game is set in the "Lands Between" where characters go on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. Nick Offerman has also reportedly joined the cast.

A24 is producing Elden Ring alongside the UK's DNA Films and video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment. Garland also wrote the screenplay.

I hope GRRM gets to visit this set. I feel he likes to go around and see his lore come to life so hopefully he gets to tour and meet and perhaps consult on this one.
