Yeah, a subscription fee (on top of what I assume will be $60) will likely be enough to kill any morbid curiosity I could have in trying this. Oh well, maybe when it's F2P...
Hmm since 2007?

Just for the record, RIFT does not use the HeroEngine. It runs on a proprietary engine that is much more suited to handling large amounts of players.
Lol sounds bad and generic, I think people like myself want the first person, housing, Skyrim style combat etc. not Elder Scrolls of Warcraft meh.
You're right. It's "heavily modified". I edited my post afterwords.I thought Rift used Gamebryo? Am I thinking of something else?

So it's the Elder Scrolls, except with most of the actual role-playing elements either nerfed or removed entirely. Got it.
And it took less than a day for people to hate everything they have done.
I really couldn't say. They seems to have some very strange ideas about the popularity of the Hero Engine in general: http://www.develop-online.net/news/...&utm_campaign=Feed:+developmag/ifbh+(Develop)Why is Idea Fabrik claiming the game uses their engine though?

Even 1000 years before Skyrim, Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians fucking hate each other. It's probably the reason why the game takes place 1000 years prior to the events in Skyrim.
Geeze, not first person, no player housing, no romance, wow style skills... whats the point of this then?
They went out of their way to make a generic MMO judging by the OP's description. After expecting a multiplayer version of an Oblivion/Skyrim-like game, this game seems kinda useless, especially considering how many generic MMO's there are out there.
within the World of Warcraft-style mechanics
Cashin' in on that popular brand. Nothing new in the gaming industry, but it's a shame since online Elder Scrolls could potentially be something exciting.
Sorry, I don't know anything about MMOs, what does it mean by no real-time combat? Is it turn based or something?
Doesn't really sound like my thing.
I just pray that Bethesda (the actual Bethesda Game Studios) gets to make another single-player Elder Scrolls someday =[
You're kidding, right? Skyrim sold reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally well, especially for an RPG/Single-player game.
Seems par for the course for each new elder scrolls reveal.
You're right but...I don't know. Still a little worrisome. I remember being totally sure of Warcraft IV despite World of Warcraft...You're kidding, right? Skyrim sold reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally well, especially for an RPG/Single-player game.
