Babelfished:
30.08.05 - From software recommended the game of roles [ eM ] to all readers in the Famitsu Xbox, eNCHANT poor on a Xbox 360 with non removable disk to absolutely play. The RPG would make extensive use of the non removable disk, and it would play itself therefore more comfortably. Fans should buy therefore best the Xbox 360 complete set inclusive non removable disk.

On the Tokyo Game show (16.09.05 - 18.09.05) is [ eM ] eNCHANT poor in playable form to be shown.

Oooh! First Impressions, tell us more.

I think Ceb's talking about this part of the babelfish:

Doesn't sound encouraging for those buying the Core Pack interested in this game. :)

Producer also said they're hoping to have 2 different demo versions for TGS, and still not sure whether game'll come on 1 or 2 DVDs. On normal TV's (4:3) game will have that 'fake' widescreen look with black lines up and down.

This game play will be played at forthcoming game show of Tokyo in each hope we have our supper in this game in this year of September, it will be easy to eat that we will see if it compliments the soft drive.

From the GSpot article...

"The volume of data in Enchant Arms won't fit into a single DVD. It's an RPG, so we're thinking it would be inevitable that we release it on two discs," says Takeuchi. "But to be honest, that's even looking grim. We're not counting in the pre-rendered movies, and we're already in this situation. So we've got a bit of a headache. We're trying to come up with various solutions, such as compressing the data. The Xbox 360 allows data to be read from the hard drive, so there shouldn't be much stress when it's used [compared to playing from DVD]. The memory is another point in terms of transfer speed. The Xbox 360 comes with 512MB of main memory, which is very helpful. But on the other hand, the transfer rate from DVD-ROM is about 7MB per second at slowest. So if we go by simple calculation at that rate, it'll take 60 seconds to fill up the 512MB [when playing from DVD]."

Sounds like a pretty ambitious project.....can't even fit on 2 X360 DVDs? (said to have ~7GBs available space, so that is 14-15GBs on 2 DVDs)....perhaps the PS3 would have been a better fit for this game?

of course it would. Just about anything that makes extensive use of FMV cutscenes will need more space. Then again .....

or just maybe the game is nearly done and they didn't fancy waiting a year or so for the fall PS3 launch? ;)

Or maybe they just think the X360 is better than the PS3?

Who knows!

No doubt it'll be a negative reason for putting it on the X360 - i'd guess that Gates has pictures of the Japanese guys naked, all eating sushi off Itagakis ass... it's the ONLY reason they'd touch the shitty X360.

He is saying it nearly fills 2 X360 DVDs *excluding* FMVs

Considering that Bethesda managed to fit Oblivion onto 1 DVD disc (and that game has a ridiculous amount of pre recorded dialogue as well as a 15-20 square mile world with very detailed visuals), I expect either they don't know what they're doing or something was "lost in translation". We'll see though.

Japanese developers are not very efficient at data storing. There are already games this gen pushing 2 full dvds.

Interesting, probably 3 dl-dvds with hd-fmvs.

PS

BTW, how's oblivion on model, texture, armor, character, enemy, area variety(aka, non-different-color or previous-monster+accesory/sword/etc models)? 15-20miles square miles is not much(I've heard it's 16, or slightly bigger than vice city... san andreas closer to what I'd call an epic size is 4x6 times as large and is probably what eM eNCH is pulling), a few large mmorpgs-esque cities along with a few zones/lairs would fill that up. I've heard there are 1k npcs, but you can recycle most of a few models when it comes to npc human characters(as long as you change the faces).

I think he means without FMV, it'll exceed a single DVD-9, not that they'll actually fill two DVDs without FMV. I think with all stuff together, they can easily fit it on two DVDs, unless there's way more than 2-hours of FMV. I mean VC-1 (720p)compression is like 9-10Mbps, which would allow them to fit a 2hr movie on a single DVD. PEACE.

Are they using prerendered cinemas because they have to? I prefer cutscenes rendered by the game engine.

As long as a cutscene wants to cut between multiple areas without loading, FMV will always have a place in games. If you have the good guys in one city and the villians in another city on the phone with each other and both locations on their own take up the full chunk of ram you have to go FMV or just be incredibly clever like Kojima.

There will be less FMV next-gen, but FMV will still be used for things like transitions and special effects.

People buying the core pack don't give a shit about this game. Tell them the next Halo, Madden, Nascar, or WWE game doesn't work well without the HDD and then the Core pack owners will care.

Woah I was not expecting that from a launch (or at least near launch) title. Now let's hope this make it's way state side.

I think it's because they want every room to be explorable.

I'm assuming the game is fucking huge.

Grand, just grand. :D

I really don't care how many discs the game is.

I was just reading about this game

EDIT: can someone post screens if available?

They havent compressed the data lol lol...

Outdoor environments are 16 square miles.. this is excluding dungeons, houses, castles etc.. the game is HUGE.

Haha, that pizza golem guy is cool looking, plus the setting looks pretty futuristic, which is cool. That one girl looks so much like Momo from Xenosaga though...

CG is easier for the developer. You don't have to optimize it to run on the system, just prerender and insert movie file. Plus its great for hiding loading.
