Panzer Dragoon II Zwei remake announced - playable at TGS

PD and PD Zwei were two of my most favorite Saturn games, but the last time I tried to play them (probably almost 20 years ago now) I remember getting very bored very quickly. I never bothered to bite on the PD1 remake/remaster, I have no problem skipping this one too.

A PD Saga remaster, now that would be a different story.

If they were going to go this route, they should have just applied cel-shading with less detailed textures.

Sadly Forever Entertainment is a low effort publisher. I've played their Front Mission 1-3 remakes and it's clear as day that they only focus on delivering a minimum viable product. 😑

I'll still buy a theoretical remake of Front Mission 4/5, I'm part of the problem.

I hope these are unflattering screenshots or the Switch version with visual cutouts.....🤦
God dammit...

I still bought the first one despite the art style murder, and I'll probably buy this too, but damn I'd rather just play them on the Saturn on my HDTV which already looks like shit. I hope the soundtrack remains untouched at least...

Wow, it finally resurfaced. Without going into too much detail, I put a business deal in place with the company I used to be at involving these games maybe... 5-6 years ago, and we were sure Zwei just disappeared off the face of the earth.

I never did play the first remake, but I'm still curious. I know some people dislike the aesthetic change, but I dunno. I'm willing to give it a shot.

Lmao these screenshots straight up remind me of stuff like Outcast, Cyberia and Time Commando

I wish SEGA would treat these Remakes with more care. I didn't like the art style of the remakes of The House of the Dead and Panzer Dragoon, I thought they deviated too much from the style of the original games (I thought the same thing with the Demon's Souls remake, but hey, at least it had next gen graphics! Yay...), but they where playable. Then the remake of THotD2 came and it was butchered to hell and back and now it looks like Panzer Dragoon II Zwei will follow the same path. What the hell? How it is possible that the sequel looks worse than the first games? The remakes of THotD1 and PD1 didn't look that good to begin with, but the remakes of their sequels actually looks way worse!

I hate it when they do this ass backwards like this. I know nothing about the franchise, but they remake the second game before the first one? I won't have the proper context or reason to care about the characters without knowing that they did previously.
Um, the first game's remake came out in 2020. The second game is the first in the timeline, it's a prequel. They're light on story loosely connected shooters and characters outside the dragon don't carry over. If only these were the problems here...

The atmosphere is so not there... yes, it's sharper and you can tell a lot of detais - but c'mon. It's a rail shooter. They could have put some amazing graphics if they were able to.

Honestly, it looks even worse than Orta running on Series X at 4k. And that's like what, 23 years old? :(

They should have taken the Aspyr route in what they done with the exemplary Tomb Raider remasters. Shiny new version plus the originals, warts and all at the touch of a button.
