What made them fascinating to me is that despite being time-capsule of a particular period in history - the nostalgia they hit for me predates the time-frame game is set in by over half a decade.Has anyone played these games? It's such an experience.
So I wouldn't be surprised if FB one still works too - ie. it's less about nostalgia for the time-period accurate tech set-pieces and more the way we made emotional connections over the early internet (and yes that predated AIM and even ICQ). In fact maybe it's all more universal than people realise - though yes, Internet was decidedly less - noisy - in pre-social media era.
