Rapper EMINEM is in rehab for a dependency on sleep medication, according to a publicist, who issued a statement on Thursday. The '8 Mile' star canceled the European leg of his tour, slated to start in September, due to "exhaustion, complicated by other medical issues," his record label stated Tuesday. The "Anger Management" shows were to run from September 1-17, and were also to feature Em's protege 50 CENT. According to his label, these dates will not be rescheduled.

All the junkies are gonna sit and laugh at him when they find out his in for sleeping pills. :lol

Bah, with Hollywood PR, it's always something tame like "sleeping pills" or alcohol. It's usually something much worse.

At least he didn't use the lame "Hospitalized for exhaustion" line, that alot of stars do.

O wait .. his publicist did that too. LAWL

Eminem checks into drug rehab

Detroit rapper is hospitalized for addiction to sleeping medication, days after canceling his tour.

Hometown hero Eminem has entered drug rehab to curb his dependency on sleeping medication, according to a statement released by his record company Thursday.

The brief statement, issued around 5 p.m., said Eminem "is in the hospital under doctor's care." It did not indicate when he entered or where he was staying.

The announcement comes at the end of a wild month for the Oakland Township rapper, who is one of the world's most popular, recognizable and controversial entertainers.

It began with rumors of Eminem's pending retirement from rap music, which he later fended off.

Eminem's Anger Management 3 tour with 50 Cent, D12 and more artists didn't sell as many tickets as expected in many markets and played to less-than-half-full houses in Atlanta and Dallas, according to Pollstar.

The tour wrapped up last Friday with a homecoming show at Comerica Park, after which many fans complained of long breaks between sets and a glut of guest stars taking away from the excitement of the show.

Em made a number of offhand remarks at the show alluding to the fact he was on Vicodin, though such comments are par for the course for Eminem, who has rapped about drug abuse his entire career.

But Tuesday, Eminem canceled his entire European tour, citing exhaustion.

Wednesday brought news that he was being sued by his aunt and uncle because, they said, he was trying to have them evicted from their Clinton Township home -- a house that Em had built for them.

On Thursday, the British newspaper The Sun reignited the retirement rumors, saying the rapper has bowed out of public life completely after scrapping the European tour, a move that equated to 10 million pounds -- or $18 million -- in lost ticket sales.

Warren's Brighton Hospital, a 50-year-old facility for drug and alcohol addiction based on 12-step programs, would neither confirm nor deny the rapper was under its care.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, has been spotted recently in public with his ex-wife Kim Mathers, who has a history of drug problems and drug-related arrests. Kim Mathers was most recently ordered to drug rehab in Center City, Minn., in September 2004.

Eminem has all but imposed a blackout on the media in recent years, speaking only through terse statements issued by his publicist, Dennis Dennehy.

But Eminem did talk briefly to WKQI-FM (95.5) on Saturday, when he called the station's request lines in the early evening to vent about what he considered a session of Eminem-bashing transpiring on-air after his Friday concert.

"I don't set up the stage and tear it down and do that stuff. So if it took an hour, and it took too long, I apologize to the people for it doing that," said an audibly miffed Em, who called the station while he was on his way to the store to pick up milk. "All I do is, I'm backstage, I get ready for the show. When they tell me to walk, I walk."

He also said he was upset people were blaming him for concession prices. "For the moron who (called in to the station and) said, 'I paid $90 for my ticket, and I only had three beers because they were $8 apiece,' go to a Tigers game, man. Go to a hockey game. They're going to be the same price. I don't set up the prices, and I don't do all that stuff that the general public thinks that I do.

"The only thing I'm trying to do is show Detroit as much love as I can," he continued. "And if you see, I try to show up at every event it's feasible for me to show up to. And for some reason, it still seems like I get bashed. Somebody's always got something negative to say about me, and it's crazy."

After the rehab announcement was read on WKQI Thursday, afternoon drive DJ Beau received more than 100 phone calls from fans offering their support and condolences for the rapper.

Spike of WKQI's "Mojo in the Morning" said Mojo and the crew were going to be at the Kmart parking lot at 13 Mile and Schoenherr in Warren today between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. with a card for fans to sign wishing Eminem well.

"It's a giant 20-foot-long card, and we'll personally deliver it to him," Spike said.

Fan Craig Daitch, 30, of Berkley -- who attended Em's show at Comerica Park last Friday -- said he wasn't surprised to hear the news the rapper had checked into rehab. "Eminem has a reputation as a hard partyer," he said. "You hear the same thing with athletes, or anyone who's out on the road a lot. But if he entered rehab, I hope he gets better."

This latest news comes at a time when, for the first time since he emerged from under the wing of legendary West Coast rapper/producer Dr. Dre in 1999, Em's stranglehold on hip-hop is weakening. Though the Grammy winner has sold more than 25 million records to date, singles from 2004's "Encore" failed to penetrate as deeply as those released off previous albums, and "Encore" stands as his weakest-selling effort thus far (it has sold 4.7 million units in the U.S., compared to 9.8 million units of 2000's "The Marshall Mathers LP," 9.4 million copies of 2002's "The Eminem Show," and 5 million copies of 1999's "Slim Shady LP").

After 40 weeks in stores, "Encore" stands at No. 95 on this week's Billboard albums chart. After 40 weeks in stores, "The Eminem Show" and "The Marshall Mathers LP," respectively, stood at No. 18 and No. 32 on Billboard's Top 200.

Music industry experts don't think the latest news will affect Eminem's career too drastically.

"He happens to be a rap artist, so it's actually an endeavor where contrary publicity can work in your favor. It's not like he was a stalwart on our Christian music chart," said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts and senior analyst at Billboard magazine. "We've had rappers debut at No. 1 while being in jail, for heaven's sakes, so people have definitely weathered worse publicity than this."

Reacting to the rumors of his pending retirement, Eminem told MTV last month he had no plans to hang up his microphone.

"I never said ('Encore') was my last album," he told MTV. "I never said anything yet. I don't know what I'm doing yet. Nothing is definite, you know what I'm sayin'? Nothing is written in stone."

Publicist: "Sleeping pills, that's it! All rock stars must have trouble getting to sleep; trying to wind down after an amazing performance. I think they'll actually buy it! Brilliant!"

It's not that hard to beleive, some sleeping pills are really fucking good.
If you take enough Valium or Ambien you can be feelin real good. I don't know if you'ld suck dick for either, but a handjob definately wouldn't be out of the question.

He should see a psychiatrist, too, IMO. He's a good guy, damn good rapper, but he's got problems he won't be able to fix on his own.

Maybe that is his next album, a contemporary Christan rock album. Then maybe a Gaelic folk album, then a 2 disc set of Georgian chants.
