Some boomer ass takes in this thread lmfao.

Gen Z has its problems but I place the blame on the folks who's job it was to raise them more than I do themselves.

I very much doubt there are any boomers in this thread.

Im using the colloquial version, it more or less evokes that you're acting like a curmudgeon lol.

Also, do people not know gen Z technically started in the late 90s? The oldest of Gen Z can be in their late 20s. The gen i think most users are actually speaking of has been dubbed gen alpha, startng in the early to mid 10s

I don't understand how watching people make faces at things has become a core pillar of media.
There are a lot of factors but here are three big ones:

Lack of companionship
Lack of friendship
Lack of both of the above causing one to watch a reaction vid to emulate the feeling of watching something with a friend.

Covid helped push this forward and made people more introverted, which had a bit of a cause and effect to it that helped reaction content become more viewed, especially as people tuned in to more viral moments.

Content companies and ad companies still can’t figure out how to interact with this form of react media.

It’s truly disheartening to see just how many people chase notoriety showing themselves “reacting” to things in front of a camera, and how even the lamest one probably gets more of a following doing that than people doing real stuff.

Yes, there’s the old geezer in me being kinda depressed because I don’t do this, hence I don’t really exist. And I remember what a big fuss we’d make in the old days if we appeared on camera for the time of a question or two on live TV. Still… it‘s amazing that people buy that kind of equipment to film themselves cringing at songs from a quarter of a century ago. In my country, actual politicians send messages to the people via videos that don’t have a tenth of the production values of these “reaction” videos.

Well, they make money off subscriptions and views (engagement) so it isn't JUST that they're reacting for the sake of it. There's quite a few folks like MKBHD and MrWhosetheboss who are wealthy now thanks to their YouTube channels... Even smaller channels get some money!

Without context the horror kitsch could be missed. The song came out before most of them were born and they grew up with Millennial music and social behavior.
