The fact that anyone supports Hillary boggles my mind... I have tested between 130-160 on IQ tests
Astronautilus. Anyone heard of him? Chances are, unless you happen to be from Denton, Texas or Jacksonville, Florida, the answer is no. Anywho I've seen him live twice and I'm just now getting around to making a topic about him. He's truly amazing. Think sage francis/atmosphere combined with Themselves or why? I've never seen anymore more passionate on stage.

His real selling point for me though was his freestyles. I swear to god he is not human, I've never heard anyone freestyle like this guy. He usually asks the audience for 5 or 6 topics to flow about and goes off over a beat, sometimes acapella, and implements them all into a freestyle. His stage presense is just overwhelming and powerful. The way he grips the mic or the way he looks like he's strung out on meth, coke, and a gallon of vodka and sweats prefusely.

Here are his current tour dates. If you live anywhere near these areas, you have to see this guy live.

sept 2nd: Jacksonville, FL - The Pearl
sept 9th: Jacksonville, FL - Jackrabbits
oct 6th: Denton, TX - Rubber gloves
oct 7th: San Antonio, TX - Art silo's
oct 11th: Lawrence, KS - Gaslight tavern
oct 12th: Carbondale, IL - Hangar 9
oct 14th: Lansing, MI - Mac's bar
oct 18th: Ypsilanti, MI - Theo's

Three songs off of "You and Yer Good Ideas" are here:

If you like those songs, the whole album is amazing.

Haha, yes. its a genre O_o

yeah "gaston ave" sort of sucks. go with "something for the kids" or "ocean avenue."

So uh.. this is just...emceeing with a live band...

edit: emceeing being a big big stretch.

Ummm, no. Its just really melodic hip-hop.

there is no such thing as emo rap. People say MF Doom is emo rap and I hit them in the face.

He did a 10 minutes freestyle about how all his friends are getting married, and he doesnt want to hook up with random girls, and how he is lonely. Trust me, the dude defines emo rap.

I was listening to their "fresstyle" whilst i posted that. Reminds me of, good news for people who love bad news, if anything. hiphop, nah.

Ironicly, my friend told me after seeing him in denton, "Holy shit, this is modest mouse + hip-hop"

rolling down the highway sippin on soy and odwalla juice

laaaaid back, with my tears in my eyes, and my eyes devouring my heart

Unless this is emotionally charged rap punk music, your title's a fucking lie.

Yeah, this isn't "emo" and I'd be hard pressed to call it rap.

Pitchfork and tinymixtapes disagree with your definintion. But I guess you're right.

Edit:

"Emo-rap is a relatively modern term used to describe hip hop music that contains emotional subject matter and relationship-based content, performed by emcees who showcase their vulnerability, self-deprecating wit, and insight into the human soul"

That's not emo, that's called being human and actually thinking about life.

Emo is when you're like,"OMG I HATE MYSELF, I CUT MY WRISTS! AND I TAKE MOODY PICS OF MYSELF!1"

MF Doom being called emo is hilarious. Really.

So is 2pac emo? He made plenty of records comtemplating life. See his song: So Many Tears.

"I won't den-y it I'm a straight EMO you don't wanna f*ck wit me...."

Emo rap. :lol

I think I know what you mean. There was this song from a white guy (not Eminem). It was something like... nanana.. bitch I don't want you back I don't want that shit now or something.

I'm gonna take the troll bait and respond to this.

Its called emo rap because white emo kids listen to it, and its more melodic than most hiphop. To go to an event further extreme its called emo rap because the music industry can market it to people who dont even like hip hop. Namely, white emo kids who wouldn't know hip hop if it bit them in the ass. But even if thats the case. Just listen to it and you'll hear the different. Compare the forefront "emo rappers" (that sounds horrible) such as Sage Francis and Atmosphere to other hip hop artists and tell me there isnt some noticable difference in style. Thus, a new genre was born. And saying "oh but noooo, emo is sappy and my gf broke up with me and I hate life" thats retarded. You know why? Just because they use the same word does not mean they are strictly related. Nu-metal is a completely separate genre from metal and the two sound nothing alike.

That brings us to a whole nother argument. Whats the difference between an emo band singing about a girl and a classic rock band singing about a girl? Its a fucking genre. I didnt create it, but its there, and no one yet in this thread has come up with a better one, so until then, emo rap exists and astronautilus is emo rap. Period. I simply wanted to introduce an awesome local artist, not argue about niche genres

Trolls, jesus.

Holy fuck my ears! I decided to click on the link and listen to some of those songs - big mistake. What a bunch of garbage....but I guess that's pretty close to what I thought "emo rap" would sound like.

Emo bands are infinitely more whiny and annoying.

This isn't "emo rap", it's some dude trying to sound like Soul Coughing.

That's an insult to Soul Coughing.

Pitchfork apparently *is* wrong as it's fairly well known what the definition of Emo has been for some time. And rap that guy is not, either. Please don't defile the Big Lebowski by using a reference when you're wrong.

Emo isn't just emotional, it's Emotional Hardcore. AKA, punk music with a focus on introverted feelings and sung as such. A rapper who chooses to talk about personal subject matter is: A fucking rapper, they were doing it far before these trendy shit-bin indie rags wanted to put a label on it.

So please, shut the fuck up.

"That brings us to a whole nother argument. Whats the difference between an emo band singing about a girl and a classic rock band singing about a girl?"

An emo band tends to sound like punk (or at least heavily influenced by it). Please research next time, ok?

Its a sub genre accepted by spin, pitchfork, tinymixtapes, and the rest of the music community and you are wrong.

Hahahah quit trying to argue something you know nothing about, its embarassing. As for him not being rap, come on, you must be joking. I've seen the guy 'rap' from 3 ft away and you insist on trying to prove you're an expert when you've heard 3 tracks. Please.

And yes I know what emo is. You keep referring to Astro as emo. I never said that. Emo rap is not related to emo just as nu-metal is not related to metal. And as for emo being "emotional hardcore" hahahaha, dude, seriously. you ARE out of your element here. hardcore is a totally different genre and sounds nothing like emo.

Teknopathetic said:

Dashboard. Shall I continue with the thousands of other mainstream emo bands that have no punk influences?

Please research next time, ok?

And I have researched it. I'm using facts while you're spitting out uninformed, garbage opinions. You're arguing for the sake of arguing. Please don't make me show link sources and own you any further..Its a genre. It doesn't matter. Music is music. And you're a troll, plain and simple.

"And as for emo being "emotional hardcore" hahahaha, dude, seriously. you ARE out of your element here. hardcore is a totally different genre and sounds nothing like emo."

For someone who claims to have research, you really don't know shit about the history of the genre. Please go listen to Rites of Spring, Embrace, and the other early bands of the genre come back, and apologize.

"Dashboard. Shall I continue with the thousands of other mainstream emo bands that have no punk influences?"

Not emo, but continue, it's late and I could use the laugh. If it has no punk influence: It ain't Emo.

That emo died in 1992, modern-day emo sounds completely different. I'm not talking about roots here, im talking about the modern-day definition.

You're off topic btw. I'm not talking about emo, I'm talking about emo rap. Two completely separate things.

Astronautilus is emo rap. As is sage francis. As is Atmosphere. As is buck 65. Disagree all you want, this is a FACT.

Personaly I think its a shitty racist term separating a style of hiphop but its still a term. And one excepted in the music community.

http://www.dirtyloop.com/SpinEmoRap.html

End of argument.

"That emo died in 1992, modern-day emo sounds completely different. I'm not talking about roots here, im talking about the modern-day definition."

Most modern-day emo still retains some punk influence, even if minor. BTW, I thought Emo wasn't related to hardcore at all? You sure changed your tune once you googled it, eh?

This isn't fact, it's like when similar douchebags on the forum tried to seperate MCs between Rap and Hip hop. They're *all* rappers. And it's all rap.

Goth had punk influence but any recent goth band sounds nothing like punk.

Yup, just spitting out stuff since this thread is dumb.

Chris Carrabba's sang for "punk" bands before he started playing his acoustic guitar. Some of his riffs still use bar chords.

But he doesn't claim to be emo or the king of emo. Its a label put on him--he knows his place in music history.

Yeah that guy would be Eamon who also remade a crap version of a Eazy-E classic.

Weren't some of the "emo rappers" being called that as a bit of a dig at them? Either way, Tekno is being a knob and needs to not take things so literally. Yeah, this may shock you, not all pop music is actually popular! THE SKY IS FALLING.

I wish everyone but Tre would just shut the fuck up about emo already. :(

As for the definition of emo changing...no. It's just clueless people stealing a name and abusing it. You can fight that and keep telling people what emo is or just fold and let idiots rule the world. I'd rather do the former, personally.

Dude I never said that, I said that they are two completely different genres, which they are. And please, I didn't google shit. I grew up on braid (went to the reunion tour), jawbreaker, jets to brazil, velvet teen, christie front drive, promise ring, etc. Don't assume, you know how that goes.

This is over, this is pointless.I'm done arguing. thanks for ruining it the thread though.

To anyone else- if you want the full album, its amazing. send me a pm, because I will most definetely not give it you to, dammit.

edit- haha, im so banned :(

And yes I'm enjoying two songs immensely but the rest is just... :/

I am a soulseek hero now, as I really think I was the first person to have it. I had like a thousand people uploading it.
