Engine Sound FX in Need4Speed Underground2:How did they get it so right???

So I am playing Need4Speed UG2 on PS2 which is a good and enjoyable game but how the hell did EA get the Engine sounds so right???

I mean, in my eyes, they are 110% *believable*....

The engine sound details are CRAZY...

Down shifting....the subtle pops when coasing....the way it blips the throttle when you let off the gas at high speed....the way sound reverberates off the walls of overpasses and tunnels...it is TOTALLY perfect, IMO...

So again, what the hell are EA doing that PolyPhony Digital (GT4) and Microsoft Game Studios (Forza) are not....the 2 big sim guys painstakingly record each and every sound of every car at all rev ranges but they sound like "games" compared to UG2, which sounds *REAL*

Can anyone tell me WTF EA is doing to get this accurate sound??

Could it be (another) deal with the devil???

Whatever it is, I hope they liscense it to other developers...

Just like with animation, a little exaggeration makes things seem "more real", compared to reality, or at least that's what I'd say. :P

Like I said one time...I have the PC version (PC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Console versions) and I was playing the game *insanely* loud on my 5.1 setup. I was joking with my dad about getting a brand new 6.0 Pontiac GTO and financing it on my own; but I wasn't laughing so he took it seriously. Anyways, when I was playing the game insanely loud, my dad was coming back from work and I was toying around with the GTO (revving the engine, peeling out and doing donuts). When my dad walks into the door, I hear him scream: "I can't believe you bought the car! Are you cra..." <--- That's when he realized there's no new car in the backyard and then hears the sound go faint and realize it was coming from my room.

:lol :lol

NFSU2 engine/exhaust/FI effects are extremely accurate (sounds are instantly recognizable for those familiar with the cars on offer) and sound real throughout the rev range (no bullshit high pitched synthesized whine at high RPMs). EA did an excellent job of separating the various elements that go into the overall sound of a car; the sounds are on-point no matter the situation. They also captured the "irregularity" of a human-controlled shift.

How the fuck they did, who knows. Hopefully, PD finds out in time for GT5 because it's starting to affect the experience ever so slightly.
