Entitled Door Dash Driver Confronts Customer About $8 Tip

Hate tipping culture, shouldn't be a thing. People deserve to get paid enough so that they don't have to rely on someone else's generosity. My initial reaction was that the driver is an entitled bitch but in harsh times people are forced to keep their morals aside for extra bucks, can't exactly blame her.

She wants more money because she is incompetent. Fantastic. 40 minutes for what was it? 12 miles? Yeah...no.

Tipping isn’t mandatory. She’s lucky she got anything at all. And $8 is an insanely high tip for a basic food delivery. She’s a nutty cunt.

The only tip she should get, is to back off the poach, because I'm racking my 12 gauge, in 5....4.....3.......thank you, good day

The only time I don’t tip is when I’m picking up food and that big fat jar is sitting there on the counter for it. Nah dude.

Otherwise I’m a pretty damn good tipper 😁

The tip isn’t all of her compensation, either:

Depending on where they are (sounds like New York), that's entirely realistic. It used to take me 90 minutes to go 18 miles (Los Angeles)

I dont ever understand tipping when the delivery isnt free. I remember ordering pizza in college and a $8 pizza would have like a $2.50 delivery fee. And then i would have to tip on top of that. So thats $14 for a pizza when i could just spend two more dollars and get two.

These doordash drivers get paid by doordash who get paid by the customer who is already paying a delivery charge. Tips should be disallowed for doordash and uber orders that already charge $5-10 for delivery.

This reminds when uber first started, the best part was that you didnt have to tip the driver. I never understood tipping cab drivers. I am literally already paying this guy to drive me around, why do i need to pay him more than what the meter says?

$8 is a pretty nice tip. I usually default to 5 bucks

if the delivery is from far away or if it's terrible weather, maybe I'd up it to $10 but not much more. so $8 is pretty good.

I once had a taxii driver follow me and my sister because we only tipped him 2 bucks. The total fare was only 10.00. It was from the train station to our house maybe 2 miles away.

Absolute nerve of this bitch. Was she expecting the guy to break off a 20? Wasn't like she walked all that distance in the snow or something.

We order from Doordash all the time and always pick the middle tip option (basically the default). I'm guessing like 90% of people that use the app do the same. If it's a less than $30 order maybe from a fast food joint that is like a 15+ min drive away, it's easy to pick the higher number too to add a dollar or so.

They can see what their guaranteed compensation is going to be so she should have declined it if she didn't like it.

I hate this basically mandatory tipping culture.
Pay people decent wages, and if you truly can't afford it then charge me more and use that to pay people better wages. And then you can still allow tips, just as an actually voluntary and unexpected thing people can give for what they feel is exceptionally good service.

Tipping for low effort/skill work is really puzzling to me. They already get paid by their employer plus they can deduct a lot of their expenses such as mileage from taxes.

I almost always tip 20%....but I can afford it and it's more of a "I do well for myself, spread the wealth a tiny bit" kind of mindset.

Worked in the restaurant industry for a bit. It sucks having to rely on tips to top your wage up.

Do agree with just simply paying a good wage and getting rid of tipping altogether

I may be wrong, but this seems uniquely American. Obviously the awful tipping culture, but more so the extremely bitchy, entitled, and childish attitude she had. It was very... Hollywood. Or maybe Hollywood just reflects reality more than I realised.

Tipping culture and opinions aside, these food delivery services are a cancer we don't need. They take a lot of profit from the small businesses, the food quality sucks compared to eating it fresh, and you are going to pay a lot more money just to be a lazy, fat, fuck.

While I try to look at issues objectively from both sides, I can't imagine many scenarios where an $8 tip is insufficient and being the customer's problem. While internet stories are usually extreme, this just further proves that I don't want any part of this nonsense.

DoorDash tells you the distance prior to taking an order
You can cancel the order mid-delivery if you decide to
I'd even straight up bailed on deliveries and took the food home with me to eat like a shithead. Doordash barely cares

This lady is a knob. People never want to claim self responsibility for their issues in life no matter how minimal

$8 is a nice tip. Lots of people who order DD didnt even bother when I was doing it in between jobs. DD also took a cut as well. Bitch needs a reality check

Lord Bezos and his legion of flying delivery drones will solve (part of) this problem. Can't wait to see drones smashing into windows with my cheeseburger.

Used to feel the same, but after travelling to America and observing how much better — professional even — the servers were in the restaurants we went to, I was actually happy to tip at the end of the meal. The food prices were slightly lower compared to Australia too, though that’s obviously dependent on the exchange rate. A government mandated minimum wage isn’t all sunshine and roses either. It reduces the amount of entry level jobs and creates a bigger welfare class, so you pay indirectly through higher taxes. Pros and cons.

It also always seemed like who deserves a tip is completely random.
Like in retail it's absolutely not expected. I can walk into a computer store, have some clerk spend 20 minutes explaining the different laptop models and their differences to me and neither him nor society at large expects me to tip him. It's understood that the clerk is getting paid to do just that and his salary is taken into account when products are priced. Hell, I can even walk out of the store without buying anything and no one cares.

But then I walk into a restaurant, there's some dude that basically just takes my order and brings it to me with an interaction that might take a combined 10 minutes, but suddenly I'm expected to give at least a 10% tip or everyone gets upset and I'm an asshole.

It’s all over the web now.
Google door dash $8 tip lol

Consider that bitch unemployable.

Yep and not just by Door Dash...like if you were an actual restaurant would you hire her as a waitress knowing there’s recorded footage of her accosting a customer that’s gone viral?

I guess her only hope is for the MSM to make her famous as a case of the little guy standing up to big tech or some nonsense. Although not so sure that ends up with her getting paid in any way once the story dies down?

Plus asking to speak face to face in a pandemic without a mask? Fuck off I don’t even talk to my UPS drivers anymore this woman is nuts.

Go to Japan. Better service and tipping is a fucking insult.

He gave her an 8 dollar tip.

Also 10-12 miles isn't that far and unless traffic is really bad, should not take 45 minutes. The customer even said it's only a 15-20 minute drive.

Edit: I see somebody already corrected you but yeah that bitch should probably find another job. Also like another poster said, she probably got triggered by a guy in a nice house.

No joke I was there on a grad school trip and one of my classmates didn’t know: she left a tip at a sushi bar and the waitress literally ran out of the building and chased us down the street to give my classmate her money back and bowed profusely like it was her fault. It was actually moving.

I think there is already a handling fee and service charge on top of any tip.
For Uber Eats there's a delivery fee and a seevice fee and you're expected to tip.

All for cold food that often arrives with the wrong or missing items.

Which is why I won't use this shit anymore.

And if I do, I'm sticking to mom and pop joints that need the business.

I've never tipped 20% on delivery in my life. Only waiters are allowed to be paid less than minimum wage. Delivery drivers have a normal hourly pay. All they get is $2 from me on any delivery. They're not waiting tables. Usually I'm also like 10 minutes from anywhere I'm ordering from too, so there's that. I only order from places that actually employ their own delivery drivers. I don't know what all the modern rip-off uber eats / doordash employees get.

I've been getting coffee from this drive through place lately on my lunch breaks, and they ask me every time if I want to leave a tip. Fuck no. You're pouring a black coffee in a drive through lol. People are really pushing for some tip bullshit lately. I blame online simp culture.
