Epic Store Free Games

The_Mike

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Also, serious question for those who sit waiting for free games - why not just pirate them?

To be clear, I'm not advocating it, I'm just wondering what the thought process is. Nobody is getting your money either way. Is it that you don't know how? Can't be bothered? Don't wanna break the law? Genuinely curious.

Pirating is illegal.

And epic still pays the developer for this. You're talking like devs are being hold at gunpoint by epic.

Claim your free games!

Dang, no death stranding!

Still bigly Hzd? 🤷‍♀️

Dec 17: Dying Light

Dec 18: Resident Evil 3

Dec 19: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Dec 20: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Dec 21: Assassin's Creed Origins

Dec 22: Metal Gear Solid V

Dec 23: The Evil Within 2

Dec 24: Far Cry 5

Dec 25: Fallout 4

Dec 26: Borderlands 3

Dec 27: Monster Hunter: World

Dec 28: Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dec 29: Horizon Zero Dawn

Dec 30: Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Dec 31: Hitman 2

That list is too insane to be real.
Any of these games are more interesting than a walking Simulator.

Like everyone else, I'm calling bullshit on that list. Despite that, now that I've seen it I just know that I'm still going to be a little disappointed as the real list is revealed. Shame on you for getting everybody's hopes up, longdi longdi

If the first game revealed tomorrow is Dying Light though...

Principle, safety, convenience, someone is getting "money", or at least benefiting from stats and empirical, recordable, marketing data.
Disagree on underlined.
Convenience? An installer that quickly installs the game - and only the game - in the exact folder you want versus the need to install a launcher that often doesn't even give you that option?

No, convenience is NOT a strong point of being legit.

Disagree on your disagreement.

I always have the game stored in my digital library in the cloud that I can access from any location on any computer, which is great when travelling or at a friend's house.

I don't have to worry about getting the latest pirated update since everything is fully updated.

I don't have to waste local space on a game when I'm not playing it for a long period of time.

If I need to download an updated version, it's already there on Steam or Epic, rather than having to search for the pirated, fully updated copy out there in internet land, which saves time.

The time saved for all of that makes the convenience highly in favor of Steam/Epic/other digital sites.

The $10 off coupon is only available for games $14.99 and higher. You can scroll down to the bottom of the homepage to select "All Games," on the right side tick "14.99 or higher," and then at the top left click to sort by price low to high. There are 50 games at 14.99 before you hit the 15.19 price point.

Disco Elysium may be the cheapest it's been with the discount and coupon. How much of a commie manifesto is it?

Is Anno 2205 worth a fiver?

Definitely. I got it for the same on Steam a few weeks ago, put 50 hrs in so far. I recommend turning off invasions though.

Super Meat Boy Forever is out next week on Epic Store. Will probably use the $10 off coupon for that or (God help me) Shenmue 3.

Here's the link:

I've vaguely heard of this game, so hopefully it'll be good. I wonder (hope) if Epic will have a big blowout the week after next, it being Christmas and all.

Make sure you try Kero Blaster after playing through Cave Story. It's amazing.

oh man I got so many free games now but I don’t ever plan on getting a gaming PC. Hopefully one day these will work magically on a console or Mac.

I would get an Xbox if somehow Epic Game Store games worked on it.

but I don’t ever plan on getting a gaming PC.
Considering how easy it is (at least here) to get a competitive pc on Kijiji /craigslist it seems like a no brainer to have one.
Gamepass and endless epic goodies makes it very easy to have a ridiculous amount of good games to play for next to nothing

One of the dumbest questions I have seen on this forum
PC piracy doesn't make a lick of sense anymore. Games are retardedly cheap.
How can you justify paying close to a grand on a video card but not pony up for gamepass or a 100 during steam /epic sales and have more games than you can shake a stick at.

Piracy on pc is just plain fucking stupid

One of the dumbest questions I have seen on this forum.

Dumb questions have one answer, not a choice of many. I'm not asking because I'm not aware of any of those reasons (do you really think I don't know that people morally object to piracy and/or can't do it?), but to see what individuals think.

One person brought up three points and not one of them was about morality or legality. So, remind me how it's a dumb question, when people clearly have different opinions on it?

Cheap is not free. Most of the time they pirate a new AAA game that cost 70€/$ and not a 5 year old indie game on sale.

Most piracy happens in 3rd world countries where people barely have the money to buy a PC in the first place, where the whole system cost is like $300-400. But even if you're in a 1st world country if you do a tally of game costs for a single year it will still be comparable to a total system cost.
Talking systems like these for most 3rd world countries (and also why you see them mostly play F2P games like DotA 2, CSGO, PoE etc):

And here's the kind of savings possible (storage cost for download vs buying the disc - a spreadsheet I did for fun some years ago so prices might not be current, plus there's obviously a lot of blurays being sold second-hand too etc), but I cropped the list (applicable to games too, not just movies):
