Epic Store Free Games

Yeah I know, that's why I'm asking. Someone was saying that at least the games they have given out for free don't actually need the launcher to work

I actually haven't tried, but I really doubt you can even download them without their launcher.

What 10 dollar coupon? =)
Just claim the free game to obtain it. It's used automatically next time you buy something.

It's right there on the front page. They have a 10 EUR/USD coupon on purchases of $15 or more

Thanks, I was looking at GOG. =)

If you like GOG check your email, they sent out some additional discounts for some games today. Though I think you need to be subscribed to their newsletter
Yup.

The email was filtered into my spam/promotions. Has links to five more discounts on specific games. I think it's only for 48 hours again.
Seem to be adding more to the sale too.

GOG and Epic are keeping me engaged, off to check out Steam now. :)

Epic is/are doing a really good deal, there is a discount + cupom shit going on that made me get the ultimate assassins creed odyssey for cheap and they are also giving a free game.

edit: the free game is into de breach.

Between the regional pricing, the 10 coupon and the free games this is definitely much nicer than the Steam sale even if the selection is limited.

I read somewhere else that a lot of games on the Epic games store are apparently DRM Free? Anyone know if there's any truth to that?
Yup! I basically got Fallen Order, Control and WRC8 for $27

I assume Ubisoft games activate on uPlay and you don't need the Epic launcher? Thinking of getting Anno...

Want to know this, have been considering grabbing wildlands but the launcher within a launcher thing pisses me off, especially since I primarily use GOG 2.0 now anyway.

I ended up trying with Into the Breach (because it's lightweight) and at least that one indeed seems to be DRM Free.
You DO need the launcher to download and install it, but once that has been done it seems like you don't need it anymore. You can, for example, close the launcher, go the the installation folder of the game and launch with with the .exe which just seems to directly launch the game without opening the Epic Launcher.

If you uninstall the launcher it will uninstall the game too..... but if you simply move the entire installation folder to another directory (or to an external HDD) the game will launch perfectly fine even after removing the Epic launcher from your system.

Haven't tested with other games and I'm sure the bigger releases probably have some form of DRM. But this definitely makes me appreciate some of these free offerings more.

How do you get Control for $6? Assuming it's regional pricing, but being in the US, is there some way to take advantage of that?

I'm in the US. You get a $10 coupon to use on games $15 or more. Control is listed at $16 now, so with the coupon it's $6.

Control is listed at $40.19 in the US. Even with coupon, it'd be $30.19.

Showing as $16 for me:

Edit: nvm

Somehow my US address is pulling up as Vietnam, so I'm getting their pricing. Damn, I was ready to buy JFO. :P

Found out from elsewhere - the answer is you need both.

Also read some horror stories about uplay then trying to download and install the game as well even if you already have it downloaded via epic. Think I'm staying away from ubisoft games on there.

Damn. Well you can get an extra 20% off on uPlay now so I'll just get it there. Thanks for finding out!

The whole event of Epic Game Store for having each day a free game in Winter Sales is genius.

Epic literally prevent me to shop from Steam or even Humble Bundle cause of the fear maybe I buy something which maybe is free later.

I guess I will buy from itchio. Maybe I will buy Control as well later.

Plus the $10 voucher for every purchase over $15.

Bought Outward for $6 now and will hold tight on further purchases for now.

Holy shit the customer support is terrible. I can't buy anything unless my region is changed. Their support has required me to validate 3 times that I am not in Vietnam and it's still not fixed.

Create a new account maybe?

I changed my region from the UK to the UAE the other day using the account settings page and didn't have a problem. But then, I'd never previously bought anything while it was set to the UK, just redeemed a bunch of free shit.

Just a heads-up, if you want a game that's like $10, check the "editions" part of the store for that game. Was going to grab Trials for $10, but the Gold Edition is $15.99, so with the coupon it winds up being $6. Cheaper than buying regular.

ive been waiting for them to put a big title up for once. especially for the holidays.

I'm sorry, but this is a new level of entitlement that I can't really comprehend.

They don't owe anyone anything, the games are free. If you like what's on offer then great, if not then tough titty.
