IIRC those went up when Closed Beta started and everyone was under NDA. Naturally someone would leak out that Frogloks and Erudites were walking around Qeynos. They didn't reveal what they looked like until the beta NDA was dropped.

I'm just talking about the fact that Frogloks were listed among the playable races for quite awhile, before any mention of an unlocking event (which happened maybe 2 months before the game launched?)

I just remember them listing a number of playable races, which lead everyone to believe that the Ratonga were the replacements for Frogloks.

A couple more shots.

These are from the Screen Savers flash mob they did on my server were about 300 people gathered around the claymore in North Qeynos. You can see the remains of Luclin in this pic. The moon is animated and you can see it burning and rotating in the sky:

Frogloks was not announced until the very last days of bets. They where however speculated to be the secret playable race.

Up to level 9 with my scout, almost level 10. Do I need to finish up this qeynos quest before I can become a bard?

Yes, you need to do the class quest. Once you ding 10 you'll be a bard. The same goes for the level 20 quest when the class branches off.

The 20 one can usually be done at 18.

Edit: Oh and it has to be done solo.

Each class has a unique quest. To get Crusader I had to storm this warehouse in the Qeynos Harbor and kill some brigands to free a single hostage. For Paladin I had to go into a Gnoll valley, avoid some very high level roamers, and break down a barricade to free some prisoners and escort them out. When breaking down the barrier there was an option to smash it or dismantle it. If you smashed it, it would alert the nearby gnolls and you'd have a fight you would probably lose, but if you dismantled it, there would be no fight.

It's an illusion.

Illusionists get a ton.

Conjurers turn into elementals.

Necros can turn into ghosts, skeletons, and litches.

Zerkers turn into bears.

Monks turn into tigers.

Furys get multiple "unnatural creature" illusions.

Warder has an illusion.

Defilers get a rodent illusion.

Mystics get a hawk form.

Dirges get Dark Elf illusion.

Troubadors get High Elf illusion.

Brigands get Wood Elf illusion.

Swashbucklers get Half Elf illusion.

There may be more, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Got my Bard to level 12 tonight and started a group in the forest ruins and killed some forgotten guardians, it was so much fun, just like the old EQ days. The combat is MUCH better than WoW, it's much more deep, I love it!

Here's a screenshot of my bard now:

I am an EQ1 vet that retired years ago. I picked this up a few days ago. I'm playing on Toxxulia with my brother. I got an 11 Wizzy. So far I like what they have done with the game. The world seems so different from eq1 though.

Does anyone know where I can find a story or background info between the time difference. Obviously something happened to Luclin. What about Velious and Kunark? I always thought the EQ story was pretty cool.

See! He has seen the light! Just wait until you hit 20 and get your subclass.

There's a lore section on the official site that has the background story:
http://eq2players.station.sony.com/lore_index.vm

Basically EQII is set about 500 years after EQ and Luclin exploded. No one knows what happened to Velious, Kunark, Faydwer, or Taelosia yet.

Hallelujah!!!!!

Sorry about you losing all your money on water though :p

I love the decay on experience debt.

I was in a Steppes group last night working on some Writs and the stupid Warden was horrible at managing his hate and myself and the other tank simply could not taunt stuff off him, so it ended up in three full group wipes and a TON of experience debt. I think I was close to 17% when I logged off last night.

I just logged in this morning and it's down to 2%. If I stay off for a little while longer it'll be completely gone when I play tonight.

The ONE single thing that is holding me back is that my groupmates get xp debt if I die. How does this play into getting groups?

Also, just how solo friendly is the game? Like, could I solo, in theory, to level 30, lets say? It's not that I don't like grouping, I do, but I don't know anyone in game (all in WoW) so I will probably be soloing for a while until I get the game down (never did any EQ).

XP debt isn't an issue if someone dies occasionally. If everyone gets wiped all the time it's time to look for something else to hunt. Debt isn't a big issue since it will decay...
Are you planing to die alot? :p

You can solo to level 50. EQ2 has a ton of content for solo, small groups and raids.
Great enchantments were just made for solo and small group content.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'm not planning to die alot, but at the same time, I understand that some people won't group with anyone they don't know for fear of debt.

Good to hear that there is always something I can solo. I think I'll be picking this game up!

Group XP debt is friggin great, of course I play a tank. This keeps complete jerks from running off while I'm dying or healers just letting me 'take one for the team'. Put bluntly, it keeps good players from being penalized because they may have to play with shitty healers/mezzers from time to time. Now, if I die and everyone else evacs, they still take a hit, but it's spread evenly. Then they just come back and rez me.

Luckily, I group with Crimson Dragon (Sindara in the pics) and a guildie Shaman (Asmok) 99% of the time so my healing needs are well taken care of.

Most of the people who bitch about group debt are people who wouldn't have been in a position to die themselves, rather they're the ones who would usually cause someone -else- to die.

You also can't join/leave a group in the middle of a fight.

I do hate that you take a hit when someone dies on the way to your group if they die, so I'd like for the range to be shortened on that, but in general it's a Good Thing™.

also, some pics:

This one is from Gobblerock's Hideout. It's one of the new dungeons that they added last month. It's primarily for high 20s to low 30s, but the boss mob (which luckily is not aggro) has nearly 100k HP and hits for 1000 regularly. It's pretty much only doable by high 30s groups.

This one is from the Enchanted Lands

Finally, one from the boat trip to Zek. I had a few guildies that needed help finishing it up, so I jumped in so they could finally get out there with us. We wiped on the last encounter because we had two level 25 druids healing me, and I really need a plate healer (Inquisitor or Templar) to be most effective. We had the boss dead, and were down to the last mob too.

commish: Pick the game up and start a char on Mistmoore, Qeynos side. We could play together.

Almost level 13 now, where do I go for good quests and to hunt? All the quests I have are either green or purple and stupid deliveries quests.

Go out into antonica and get in some gnoll groups. There should be a few running around. Your other good option is to go to Vermin's Snye. Once you hit 15-16 you should be able to hit up Stormhold.

edit: oh yeah, if you did the 'Vida Needs a New Broom' quest, DO NOT THROW THE FUCKING BLUE STONE AWAY.

\/\/\/ yeah, you could do that too. I just avoided BB like the plague since it was always camped to hell.

You can probably start getting in low-end Blackburrow groups at 13. It's been a while since I was 13 so I can't remember level ranges of mobs in specific spots in Antonica.

Yup, we wiped. Two druids weren't enough healing for Bloodstain, and they drew aggro like mad with the regens and damage shields. I could AE and taunt as soon as they came back up and i still would lose aggro.

I'm actually going to start a Halfling Wizard on Test server tonight to check out the new patches before they go live.

Made level 13 with a group on these group bugs in Antonica, knickyacks or whatever.

Where do I purchase my skills upgrades past rank 2?

They either drop from mobs as adept books or you buy them from the broker. Bard stuff shouldn't be too hard to come by. There's usually a ton of it available. I'd advise just buying straight to Adept I if you can rather than buying them in order, which is unneccesary.

\/\/\/ also,

Adept III crafted from rare materials

Master I super rare drop from mobs

And Apprentice IV is pretty equal to Adept I although they can sometimes be better.

Apprentice I = Free with level.
Apprentice II = Bought from scribes/trainers.
Apprentice III and IV = Crafted.
Adept I = Dropped by mobs.

I'm pretty much in the same boat malachov was in, while i like WoW I'm getting kindof tired of it and want to try out EQ2 (I'm still a big fan of EQ1 and like it better than WoW).

Anyway i wanted to try it out for a month or so to see if it's worth playing, does it come with a free month out of the box? I liked how WoW came with the free month but it was annoying that you had to actually use a gamecard or start a credit card subscription to activate that free month...does anyone know if that's necessary with EQ2 aswell?

Also what kinds of computers are you guys running EQ2 on? how would it go on a:

p4 2.8ghz
512 ram
radeon 9800 pro 256mb

...not too well im guessing..
(BTW sorry for bumping the old thread, but i didn't want to make a new one just for this)

Yes I do believe you will still have to enter a CC or GC to activate the free month. I really need to tweak EQ2 on my machine as I was trying to play with just the default balanced setting at 1280x1024 this weekend and it ran like a dog. My machine is as following:

AMD Athlon 64 2800+
1GB RAM
BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC

What are the bards like? It's a class I wished was in WoW.

Well, I played one from launch day to 27 before I started my SK, and had a lot of problems getting groups, though it seems like now people actually realize that bards don't suck so you shouldn't have problems getting groups.

They have some great buffs, group haste and clarity line of songs, so people love em.

They don't do lots of damage like the other scout classes, instead they massively bump the other member's damage.

Both subclasses have buffs and debuffs, though I'm fairly positive that Dirges tend to play better with casters and troubs get along better with parties full of melees. Dirges are a little more debuff oriented, and troubs more buff oriented. It's a fun class, but soloing isn't their strong suit after around 20 if that's what you're looking for. I always had trouble soloing above even mobs after around then.

Also, with the new patch changing buff durations, they got a lot easier to play since you don't have to recast many of your buffs every 3 minutes. Also, if you know anything about EQ1, bards could have multiple spell effects active at the same time by 'twisting' their songs (they'd start one until they got the effect, cancel, start another, cancel, start another, and just keep doing this as much as possible w/o letting the first effect stop. you had to have a high end pc and a good internet connection to really twist more than 2-3 songs at a time.)

Twisting is gone, and I'm actually glad since much like enchanters, only people with great rigs could be effective, and classes shouldn't be limited to who has the best PC.
