ESPN.com hired some chick they never met might turn out to be a fake person/scammer

I just started following her on Twitter last week. Weird. She posted a big defensive combo of tweets today.

Can anyone give a tl;dr version of the Deadspin article? I saw it but it looked daunting

She's a scam artist, who along with an accomplice, ripped off some college kid. Got him to believe she was starting a site with the backing of ESPN and he gave up control of his site to her and her friend.

give me a reason I should care about this?

Same reason why you should care about anything on the internet, it's entertaining to read

This has it all - sports writing, gambling, multiple long cons, Twitter assploisions, etc. Thread title fails it on multiple levels.

The future of monetizing social media needs to involve clandestine sweatshops simmering long cons on fabricated personalities.

That tangerine is smiling at me.

Edit: I'd fall for her scams.

So many stupid men involved in this, making terrible decisions because of a pretty girl and a possibility of money.

I look forward to hearing even more about this during the rest of the week. I'm sure there will be bigger things coming.

I wonder if either ESPN or Covers will pursue action against her or just try to bury this.

Nah, they'll cover this shit up and never speak of it again

ESPN is going to try and bury this from their end as much as they can. Makes them look incompetent.

Has anyone seen an ESPN employee tweet about this yet? Most of the reporters I follow are all over this thing except for ESPN people.

Well, you came into the thread, and posted, so it must have interested you on some level. Pretty sure a post like this is what got Wario banned also.

I thought she fucked over espn, but it look like she just screwed over a shitty facebook meme page. If anything, I'm surprised by how seriously they take those meme accounts on social media.

Pretty crazy story. Glad that got exposed. Apparently it's just the tip of the iceberg, looks like she's made quite a habit of scamming people.

Yup. She doesn't need ESPN, she has exactly what it takes to make money in America. Sociopath with no conscience and an unquenchable thirst for money.

Hah, indeed. She'll find some other way to rip people off.

So I read some of Sarah Phillips's work and they are pretty enjoyable. Does she really get that much out of a NBA MEME site to risk losing a job with ESPN?

Her and her real/fake buddy scammed the site away from the guy who actually made it.

I don't believe the first photo posted in the thread actually has her in it.

I get that part but the question is why? The writing style of this person is good enough to be ESPN front page. I would assume writing for ESPN would be more than any money that NBA site would make.

She also apparently scammed some guy out around $5,000 and then threatened to send people to his house to collect more.

This story is super shady.

I assume he/she/they have substantial gambling debts.

What a bitch. And her partner is a fucktard too. Really feel sorry for the Ben kid in all this. He's young and stupid so I can't blame the guy for falling for this scam. People are heartless.

I actually think Sarah and Nick or Nasim (whatever their names are) are all the same fucking person.

Edit: Seems Ben got his page back from Sarah. But at what cost really? He probably lost most his following.

Sarah Phillips ‏ @SarahPhilli

My avatar is me. My YouTube video is me. I enjoyed my time with ESPN. They were great to me.

Scam a Covers member.
Scam Covers website by posing as another person
Scam Ben and take over his facebook NBA memes page
Scam ESPN

Lots of scamming for a 22 year old.

Holy crap, I use to work with that guy. He was an asshole and criminal. Small world

I refuse to believe that this young man is anything less than an upstanding citizen that you would be thrilled to have your daughter bring home.

Read the Deadspin article earlier today and even though it is crazy long I read the whole thing. Super interesting. I love to see ESPN, in any form, fall on their faces. Too bad this dropped before she was able to get Skip Bayless involved somehow.

I just read through Sarah Phillips's work for the month and I already think she is one of the better write at using humor. "Sarah" is probably a guy but the work is good enough that I will continue to follow him/her

Just don't send her any money man.

I too figure "she" is actually a "he".

I woke up and started to take a shit in the bathroom yesterday morning. I loaded my RSS reader up and started to read this article. 3 Paragraphs in I realized it was tremendously long and I really didn't care about the exploits of some blonde forum chick.

Question. Is it worth my time to read all this shit?

No, man. Your time is obviously too valuable.

Uh, what the fuck? Is what I and the millions of unemployed are asking.

Step your game up. If you have a hot friend, pretend to be her on the internet and make that bank.

LoL don't have to be an ass, it's legit question. This worth the read? It's long as fuck and I just wanted to know. <3 no offense mean't by calling you an ass, men must be vulgar sometimes.

It depends if you like reading about long cons or not. It's like that "Gaf I'm getting Married Thread". So many red flags.

It's 4AM in Tampa, and you're on the internet. You obviously have time to spare. :)

I guess but we definitely need an update from eyeliner. Wonder if she went back to philippines w/o him or not?

Only 24 hours in 1 day, I divide all internet surfing up into increments of 5 minutes. Plus you have to alot time for gaming/eating fast/possible trips to bathroom/ and other things. (like carpet hockey). I am getting old man, got to spend time wisely. (This is me trying to be funny with no alcohol , I know it didn't work. Sorry.)
