Eurogamer: Are the Splicers in Bioshock…Woke?

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN

Other than the guy who checks out the VR titles, Eurogamer is pure trash. They always have something stupid and irrelevant to say in every review I've ever read. I try not to engage in the woke/not woke discussion purely because I'm not interested, but this article is peak Eurogamer.

Yawn. Where's your rebuttal then ?

People like you
are very quick on the trigger with the ad hominem's but typically very reticent on presenting any sort of argument in favour of whatever nonsense they are in favour of.
I wonder why that is ?

If you think I'm wrong, make a case for it, or pound sand.

The only challenge I seem to get here is to my self-control in not giving you the savage rinsing you deserve.
I called you takes dumb, and given the amusing response I see this isn't probably the first time this happened. . At least you lave a logical train of thought, however flawed it may be, that leads you to your conclusions, so kudos for that.

"No Gods or Kings. Only Man" This is the first thing you come across when you enter the lighthouse, everything that comes after is evidence on how disastrous that philosophy is. The game is very well made in almost all facets; the VA is top notch, and the twist was groundbreaking at that time. Was the writer trying to make some real world point? Probably. But I didn't care enough to not enjoy this brilliant game.

This still is missing the point though honestly. I think everyone would agree that Bioshock 1 and Baldur's Gate 3 are better games than Outer Worlds 1. I think everyone would agree Outer Worlds 1 has some portions with bland, poorly written dialogue / story.

What I'm discussing is the reaction to Outer Worlds 2 and the constant mocking of even attempting to criticize the powerful and rich. It was definitely mocked for even attempting to do that. If you're actually claiming there is zero culture change on the anti-woke reactionary side since 2012 then I just disagree, completely. I've seen a ton of games attacked in this manner. It is true that if it turns out to be a masterpiece people usually shut up about it and play it anyway. That happens on both sides.
OW2 is like if you let a bunch of circle jerking redditors from r/antiwork write a video game. It's like the entire thing just exists as a vehicle for the writers to bitch about current day issues and fling shit at things they don't like. All delivered with a heavy dose of unfunny "humor" and ironic detachment because any sincerity or genuine emotion is too "cringe" for the Modern Audience apparently.

Compare that with something like Cyberpunk 2077, which also tackles the themes of evil mega corporations + greed + artificiality + consumerism replacing meaning and purpose in people's lives. The difference is that the lore, world building, writing, characters, scenarios, etc are infinitely better than Outer Worlds.

OW2 isn't being criticized just for daring to criticize rich people and corporations. It's because it does so in the most artless, trite, boring way possible.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing the powerful and rich. But the difference is that first Bioshock does that intelligently and also has a great game built around it.

Outer Worlds (1&2) has badly written Marvel style Temu Whedon writing with terrible (and completely forgettable) characters, uninteresting story and mid game.

Hell, BG3 could be considered "woke" and yet a ton of people love it. There is a reason for that.
