I can understand why Astro Bot is on top of so many lists.
Is there any other AA/AAA non Nintendo game focused 95% on fun, instead of Story, political agendas, inclusion, forced emotional or cringe romantic content this (last) year?

Lots of story and over 3h of cutscenes in that game...
Because of the end-of-chapter animations, which are mini animated films with different styles. They account for half an hour. Almost every major boss gets a cutscene and there are around 25 of them. There’s is also a dozen optional bosses also with cutscenes. The game is around 60-70 hours of content.
It's not exactly the kind of game you sit down to play thinking "I'm tired, I just want to have fun".
That’s exactly what kind of game it is. There’s a deeper story connected with Journey to the West if you’re interested, but it’s not told in a way that gets in the way of the game or constantly interrupts it to beat you over the head with the story.

Black Myth: Wukong.

Indiana Jones was that game for me. And Astro Bot. And Minishoot Adventures.
Not Black Myth Wukong. A gameplay session in Wukong is usually about getting frustrated from the difficulty and playing the same thing over and over. Comparing it to Astro Bot would be like if the whole game was only the symbols challenge levels. ”fun”

Aside from a few optional bosses and the final one, I found the difficulty manageable.

Not for me but maybe I’m getting old and slow idk. I’ve finished Elden Ring multiple times and Shadow of the Erdtree but got stomped badly by Black Myth. And in ER you can always have fun just going out on an adventure to level up and make a frustrating boss easier. But grinding for skill upgrades in Black Myth is extremely boring and repetitive since it’s so linear.

Crazy that you say that because I found SotE far more obnoxious and frustrating than BMW. The bosses in BMW are a lot more forgiving and not as relentless in their aggression. You also have a few options such as Cloud Step or Immobilize to slow them down and catch your breath. Granted, I played SotE solo without summons, so that might be why. No boss in BMW even comes close to Promised Consort Radahn or Renalla.

Astrobot was just non-stop fun. And I think older gamers like us appreciated it even more than the younger gens.
I am not sensitive to nostalgia marketing (at all), and I see myself as not too nostalgic blinded (even I totally understand the appeal of oldschool games retrogaming...). I tried astrobot in VR and this last one, and it felt... Meh.... Average at best.

Maybe I am an old fart, but I really don't get the astrobot hype... Like there is no way...... :/

Because it's an amazing game that's fun to play and charming to look at. If it didn't click with you personally then it just didn't click but most others really enjoyed it to make it their readers GOTY. What's to get? Your opinion is just different from the majority. Happens a lot of times with everyone.

Endgame boss in Erdtree was pure frustration I agree on that but the rest was, as you said, manageable. And there are so my possibilities to change strategy if it’s not working, plus explore to upgrade more.

In Black Myth I nearly gave up at the early game white clad noble that turn into a snake…Was a solid noob wall. Just brutal.
Played more but jumped to other games after mid desert area and haven’t returned so I guess I still have like 100 more bosses to be stomped by.

Just finished Minishoot Adventures and is going through FF7 Remake at the moment, might go with BMW after that and will revise my GOTY list if going further change my mind.

Currently I would go like this for a top 5:
1. Indiana Jones
2. Astro Bot
3. Shadow of the Erdtree
4. Minishoot Adventures
5. Stalker 2

Stalker 2 is up there even though I haven’t finished it yet, might not be fair but I think it’s delivering right from the start.

Did anyone else surprised to see dragon dogma 2 so low? Was such a big deal when released but seems everyone forgot about it pretty quickly.
