B'klyn teacher arrested on sex charge

A teacher at one of Brooklyn's most prestigious public schools was arrested Sunday on charges of making sexual advances toward a 15-year-old student, police and school officials said.

Steven Ostrin, 51, a tenured teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child for an incident that the victim alleged occurred during school hours on March 2.

The high school, known as Brooklyn Tech, has earned a reputation for being one of the best schools in the borough, excelling in math and the sciences.

The victim, who was not named by police, told investigators that Ostrin, of Hewlett, hugged and kissed her in a classroom about noon on March 2. He then approached her from behind and placed his hands on her shoulders, police said.

I knew the teacher he was a damn good one too. he was a Vietnam Vet and spoke to my class several times when we went over Vietnam. He had some amazing stories of Special Ops missions (Maybe i'll post one later) and talked about how hard it was to return to a nation that hated him and his comrades.

He was a really good teacher and had a good sense of humor. This whole incident went down about 2 weeks ago and he was transfered or something. i guess it makes sense to get rid of him as a teacher but he doesn't deserve to go to jail.
