Everybody has a podcast these days. Recommendations?

The youtube algorithm pointed out a new podcast to me the other day. This one is starring Dana Carvey(remember him?) and David Spade. It's really struck me lately just how many podcasts there are. It seems like anyone with an ounce of fame especially if it was 20+ years ago has one.

Keeping on the SNL train Kevin Nealon has a podcast of sorts where he goes hiking and talks to celebrities.

Member Lord of the Rings? I member. Merry and Pippin have a podcast together.

These aren't inherently bad I feel it's just amazing how much nostalgia media is out there. What are some other podcasts out there? Does Robert Englund have a podcast? I wouldn't doubt it.

Lex Fridman. He's an AI researcher who interviews some of the smartest, most interesting people around. The podcasts are several hours long and he asks great questions.

I'm looking for a good gaming podcast. I really like Gabbin+Games (David Jaffe). I'm not into Giant Bomb or that crew these days. I like the more personal podcasts, where it's just a single person and their thoughts, with an occasional guest.

I've listened to Lex a few times. He's, unfortunately, a bit too dry for my tastes. The only gaming podcast I listen to on a regular basis is Sacred Symbols which is Playstation focused. Cain and Rinse are good for deep dives on an individual game or series. All are shows with multiple people though.

Agreed re: Lex..

I miss having a gaming podcast I really loved. GB is dead and Easy Allies is fine but they wrap everything in cotton wool and it feel sterile. I was actually very surprised when one went on a mild rant about people complaining about Sifu difficulty on the last Frame Trap.

If you're in to horror, I can't recommend Dead Meat enough. Really likeable guy that goes in depth about horror movies, plus his kill count series is amazing as well. Check him out.

Recently mentioned this in a different podcast thread, but Mysterious Universe is my #1 choice

Strongly recommend it if you’re into paranormal/supernatural/conspiracy/batshit crazy stuff. Just search for episodes that cover a topic that sounds fun. The hosts are great.

It’s pretty fucking ridiculous but extremely entertaining.

It's basically Joe Rogan minus the MMA but from Australia

Really these guys don't get enough credit for what they've achieved, the longest running podcast that I know of (17 years already!)

I've listened to a few. They were pretty ad heavy as I recall?

No idea, I’ve been to subscribed to MU+ for a long, long time now.

No ads, Friday episode is about an hour or so longer, and you get an additional episode each week on Tuesdays.

I’m one who typically doesn’t subscribe to stuff like this, but I have no problem supporting these guys. They put in a lot of time and effort, as this is their full time job.

I listened to them for years. They had a pretty long stint of NDE stories awhile back that made me unsub. I still check them out from time to time.

Expanded Perspectives is another fun podcast in the same vein.

If you are new to Warhammer 40k, and would like a humorous lorecast, I suggest Adeptus Ridiculous. It's headed by Bricky, the same guy who did the 40k faction videos.

Does anyone remember those podcasts with Shawn Elliot? I think it was for 1UP? Still to this day I can't find a gaming podcast worth listening to

I followed Super Best Friends Play’s podcast sporadically as I was only on episode 90-something when they split up at the end of 2018. Kind of stopped listening after that as it killed the mood knowing only Pat and Woolie would continue to work together (Matt and Liam only occasionally do a collab where they react to Direct/E3/etc. videos).

I do watch Trash Taste on Youtube, I don’t catch every episode but they are awesome. Already loved Gigguk beforehand, The Anime Man was also really good, and hadn’t followed CDawgVA beforehand but he’s enjoyable.

Really I just check out podcasts of people I was already following on Youtube. They’re just too time-consuming to follow ones of people I’m not familiar with.

Snake Oil Salesman
My top 5 most played...

Gabbin + Games - David Jaffes podcast. Criticizes AAA cutscene heavy games but oddly like Sony exclusives for some reason. Still, the best "non enthusiast" gaming podcast out there.

Real Time with Bill Maher - Its just his HBO show. Top tier production values.

The Braver Angel's Podcast - A debate podcast that usually has solid guests. Weak production values though.

The Tim Dillon Show provides legendary rants but I can't listen to comedy podcast on the regular.

Breaking Points with Krystal and Sagaar is a political podcast where hosts highlight corruption in media as well as within government.

You're Dead to Me.
No Such Thing As a Fish.

Sometimes they get a bit woke, but you can always skip those parts/episodes.

Infinite Monkey Cage
A Curious Case of Rutherford and Fry
Freakanomics.

Other than that, I only listen to science and p-word podcasts.

Kinda depends on what you're looking for. A few suggestions:

  • Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast is incredible because it's just Bill Burr ranting for two hours about whatever crosses his mind.
  • Sean Carroll's Mindscape is a scientific podcast by theoretical physicist Sean Carroll about all science, philosophy and that sort of subject. Quantum physics, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, et cetera.
  • The Vergecast if you're interested in gadgets and Silicon Valley "drama".

Honestly, ive found podcasts so boring and trite. I came to the realization that i kinda hate most video game podcasts now. The comedian podcasts are just the same people but more insecure. Moved to audio books and have been much happier.

For anyone who enjoys Magic the Gathering I would recommend the Arenacraft Podcast.

For god sakes if I have to hear another commercial about a podcast that claims "we're different because this is a unique perspective" or "this podcast is different as we discuss The culture" or "this podcast is different as we discuss blah blah and then drops Spanish to relate to people and then drops familia" I'm gonna scream. Also best sports radio show Ben Maller on Fox sports radio

Sacred Symbols… but it’s a PlayStation centric podcast fyi.

That's why I don't listen to Collin's stuff any more, I have a PS5 but that show's useless to me.

Also when he started it Chris never had anything of value to add, hope he's improved on that front because the guy's nice.

It's Always Sunny podcast started off as them rewatching Season 1 and talking about it (playlists available on YouTube and Spotify) but has evolved into them watching into Season 2 and 3 and doing other shit:
