Evolution of a worldview

1998

A: "Wouldn't it be cool if Sony made a handheld?"
B: "No, it would be commercial suicide. It will never happen."

2000

A: "Sony has said that they would enter the handhelp market when they could make the technology work to their standards. Wouldn't it be cool if Sony made a handheld?"
B: "No, it would be commercial suicide. Let them try."

2003

A: "Sony has announced a handheld system! I hope it's cool."
B" "It's commercial suicide. They'll fail."

2004

A: "Wow, Sony's handheld is getting a lot of support and has really powerful specs, and some cool games, I think I want one!"
B" "It's nothing new and it will cost way too much, and will fail."

2005

A" "I'm getting a PSP as soon as I can. It looks great, doesn't cost too much, and looks like it won't flop!"
B: "It's nothing new, Sony's not a _real_ game company, the games are all ports, they offer nothing from a portable standpoint."

...though to be fair, I'm a hypocrite. I was a similar nay-sayer about the X-Box and its chances in the market. Now, of course, I own one.
