Exclusive: Saddam Possessed WMD, Had Extensive Terror Ties

(CNSNews.com) - Iraqi intelligence documents, confiscated by U.S. forces and obtained by CNSNews.com, show numerous efforts by Saddam Hussein's regime to work with some of the world's most notorious terror organizations, including al Qaeda, to target Americans. They demonstrate that Saddam's government possessed mustard gas and anthrax, both considered weapons of mass destruction, in the summer of 2000, during the period in which United Nations weapons inspectors were not present in Iraq. And the papers show that Iraq trained dozens of terrorists inside its borders.

I have yet to see this confirmed by other news websites, but being that its claimed as an exclusive and fairly new, thats not surprising. But if this turns out to be confirmed, well, Bush might not have to worry about his poor performance in last weeks debate anymore, to say the least!

Before the herd attacks this, remember a few weeks ago when CNS was the first organization to run with the Dan Rather mess and the CNS bashing that followed?

Who got the last laugh on that one?

Good point, I didnt remember that one.

I can see damage control is already being undertaken. :)

If this news is confirmed by the big networks, then this is some major news. We shall see what happens though.

In the year 2000.... ok.....

A revelation like this if true could completely change the face of the upcoming election.

Perhaps not, but these might mean something if they are true:

One of the Iraqi memos contains an order from Saddam for his intelligence service to support terrorist attacks against Americans in Somalia. The memo was written nine months before U.S. Army Rangers were ambushed in Mogadishu by forces loyal to a warlord with alleged ties to al Qaeda.

Other memos provide a list of terrorist groups with whom Iraq had relationships and considered available for terror operations against the United States.

Among the organizations mentioned are those affiliated with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Ayman al-Zawahiri, two of the world's most wanted terrorists. Zarqawi is believed responsible for the kidnapping and beheading of several American civilians in Iraq and claimed responsibility for a series of deadly bombings in Iraq Sept. 30. Al-Zawahiri is the top lieutenant of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, allegedly helped plan the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist strikes on the U.S., and is believed to be the voice on an audio tape broadcast by Al-Jazeera television Oct. 1, calling for attacks on U.S. and British interests everywhere.

WRONG... the link between September 11th and Iraq directly was never proven... The link between Iraq and Al Qaeda was confirmed...

It was confirmed that Osama Bin Laden did not want to work with Iraq (a secular communist government - exactly what he fought AGAINST in Afghanistan).

To imply that being right (for once) about another journalistic organization getting hoaxed somehow gives this outlandish claims extra validity is pretty laughable on it's own. In fact, these documents look a lot like the memo's CBS fell for, except that they are much bigger and more important. Hmm... I wonder if CNS didn't just get punked by a hoaxed set of memos telling them what they wanted to hear just like CBS.

The senior government official and source of the Iraqi intelligence memos, explained that the reason the documents have not been made public before now is that the government has "thousands and thousands of documents waiting to be translated.

"It is unlikely they even know this exists," the source added.

The government official also explained that the motivation for leaking the documents, "is strictly national security and helping with the war on terrorism by focusing this country's attention on facts and away from political posturing.

"This is too important to let it get caught up in the political process," the source told CNSNews.com.
COME ON. Some guy finds documents that spell out, in perfect detail, every connection and WMD plot the White House would be desperate to prove and he.... gives them to some 2-bit arch conservative news organization? WTF, he breaks about a zillion secrecy laws for no real reason?? There is no even remotely plausible reason why the White House/Pentagon wouldn't gleefully release these documents and trumpet "WE WERE OH SO RIGHT WOOOT!" to the world, so the source has to think of an even less likely reason that it hasn't come out yet. Even if it were all true, he'd be fired and arrested a split second after they figured out it was him.

Even if it is a true story, big if, what does it mean? That in a best case scenario we killed over a thousand(s) of our troops, and Iraqi citizens, so we could force Iraq to transfer their "WMDs" into the hands of a bigger Middle Eastern threat? Go Bush!

Like I said from my first post, we will see if this news is really news or not, if it's confirmed by other sources. So all you anti-Bushies better not get your panties in a twist just yet. Save that for if this news gets confirmed. You guys are so rabidly against anything that could remotely help Bush, that you attack it even before you know much of the facts.

Wait until its either confirmed or denied to shout out about it. Then you wont look like an idiot if your ideal outcome is wrong.

Saddam Possessed WMD = check (None of which have been found in the almost 2 years that the US has been there AND none that had a delivery system that posed a threat to the US in or out of the region)

Had Extensive Terror Ties = check (Against Isreal)

This article is 100% accurate.

Anyone besides me beginning to think that Saddam was acutally good for the Iraqi people? Heck you give them a little freedom and look at what they do. They need a despot.

No, please don't use the people want/need to be control line... that shit is too reminiscent of the arguments used to support slavery.

Heh it gets funnier the more I think about it.

"Ok, I'm a senior government official. I somehow just recieved dozens of documents spanning decades that show that not only did Iraq possess WMD but worked closely with pretty much every Islamic terrorist network of note. These documents, which not only back up in explicit detail every pre-war accusation of the Bush White House but reference most every terrorist attack against Americans in the past decade - it's like every single page has a picture of a smiling Saddam shaking hands with Bin Laden and winking.

This shit is DYNOMITE, it'll make my career just to stick it in an IDM envelope and send it to pretty much any government agency. I could slap a sticky-note on it that says 'hey check this out' and send it to the mail room and it'd end up at GW's desk in 30 minutes. But no... it's too important to let the CIA, State Department or Pentagon have it. I better give it to some guy who runs a minor far-right news blog instead. He'll do a much better job of publicizing it than those tedious White House press conferences. This way, I'll break dozens of laws, basically engage in espionage against my own government and surely get fired."

Sure they might be real, it might be true. But the whole question of why on earth would anyone just leak those documents if they were real just blows my mind. And talk about getting every single thing on paper you'd possibly want to get in one convenient package. I'm surprised the 'Iraqis' didn't have a memo in there about Kerry getting a back rub from Chirac while Saddam gave him a big sack with a dollar sign on it. ;)

I don't know about you, but I have a bit of a problem accepting as truth documents that are "authenticated" by Laurie Mylroie

DarienA it was a joke.

Whether or not this is true, of course we can't determine. I will say, i've seen this situation before.

It always starts out this way, soon enough a couple of media outlets will start to pick up on the story. A good portion of the first "takers" in the media will certainly be those with a slighty right bias (Fox, a few select newspapers across the nation), then followed by the more mainstream channels.

The funny thing about this all, is that all these outlets simply report the fact that there is such a story (a story about a story). They don't bother to check the validity of it 'til it's well past the Mainstream part of the chain/cycle, and even then it's sometimes still not verified.

So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the show.

*actually this post was just a poor attempted at marking this thread for me to folliow as it develops*

Nah, I think it's more deliberate blurring of the lines, like his recent "Four more years! Four more consoles!" post in the Gaming forum topic about Nader. :)

CNS got lucky with the Dan Rather outing. For once, one of the marginally-literate speculations of their Free Republic spong-grade bottom feeding newscrawlers panned out -- but it still doesn't excuse the thousands of other times they've been completely catpiss insane and incorrect.

CNS is allowing all the major news outlets to come forward and examine the documents for themselves.

This isn't news. People who have done their research and refuse to accept all of the "bipartisan" whitewash that is the 9/11 commission report as sacrosanct gospel already knew about this.

Well, at least this means they're definately not holding Bin Laden and waiting to release that news before the election.

Ahhh, of course Maku- I mean, Neo. Now that you know the Truth the rest of us can not hope to comprehend you should start enlisting others to aid you in your quest. I suggest freeing Drinky Crow or one of those crazy 'liberals' from the whitewashed dream world of bipartisan commissions that enslave us, he would be a powerful ally as you face the challenges of the Real, what with the ruined cities and giant swarms of sentient Librul machines flying around.

I love how convenient this is.
Not only does he have (or had) WMD's, he also had connections with terrorists. All our problems are solved in a convenient article. yay!

Yes, one news report from a Scaife/Olin/Bradley/Coors funded web news service powered by Brent Bozell, who, among other things, claimed that Enron CEO Kenneth Lay spent in Bill Clinton's Lincoln Bedroom (a lie), proves that everything we know about 9/11 and Iraq is wrong.

The report on the memos had credit because you could hit a link/web search and see the Bloggers who had done work on the memos and had peer reviewed that work. CNS only reported the news, and was not the sole verifiable source for it. This time they are the sole provider of the information, and that makes them more suspect than if multiple news media organizations collaborated and confirmed that a set of documents were real or forgeries.

I can believe CNS did get the memos from a government offical. If they did, then I bet that official came from Douglas "The Dumbest Man in Washington" Feith's organization, and that its a plant of some sort. Too much strange shit has been happening in those offices over the past few years.

First tragedy, then farce.
Why would a radical islamic group join forces with a secular modernist government? The very thing that the radical islamic groups were formed to try and overthrow.

Sorry to be using logic but if any of this article were true, Bush(it) and Co. would be SCREAMING about it from the rafters. You would see a press conference followed by reports in the NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, Fox, etc.

The LAST thing you would see is a small, conservative blog with access to Iraqi secret files suddenly come out of the woodwork.

Exactly.

Let's say for a minute that these documents are, in fact, real and factual. So Iraq had WMDs in 2000. Is anybody all that surprised? Here's the problem. WE INVADED IN 2003. For God's sake, Bush wasn't even President in 2000. And aside from that, some of these documents (including the only one they chose to publish) date from 1993.

All that said, these documents probably came from the same storage shed that CBS' documents came from.

What I don't understand is why all this material obtained in Iraq isn't being translated more aggressively/quickly.

Meh, I wouldn't trust any news from a source like this if it's exclusive.
