Exo One - Xbox Series X Announcement Trailer

I don't know what to make of the '''game''' here, but that is absolutely gorgeous. If that's a sign of what we can expect on Series X, more of this please.

What? Am I wrong? How is this derailing anything?
Don't act like you don't know that calling something a clone is a derogatory term. Just because something takes inspiration from something else, doesn't make it a "clone". Nearly everything does the same. It's a low effort way of getting in a jab without putting any thought into seeing how it is similar yet different in certain ways. If that where the case, nearly everything could be called a "clone".

Beautiful lighting and I love that you can fly through different planets as a UFO.

I'll be sure to check it out on Steam.

See, this is what I expected Halo to look like, selling me on series X.

Instead I got Craig's next gen frisbee golf game.

looks like a fun zen kinda game. Like I would love to play it after a bad day and lose 1 hour in it.

I can't be the only one in this thread being reminded of the flight scenes from "Flight of The Navigator" after seeing these clips, can I?

Edit- sees JonnyMP3's post above.
Great minds think alike, etc...

I have no idea what this is. I'm not familiar with/haven't played the games it is said to take inspiration from, but it looks spectacular, mesmerizing and intriguing. I will have to check it out.

I think that video you've posted proves that both us and the game maker are all childhood fans of that film!

Just found out there was a demo up on steam. Tried it out and man... it's been a few hours since I finished it but I find myself constantly thinking about the experience. Hard to put into words. Can't wait for the full release. I think it's going to be a blast.

Nice. Will do that also.

I dont think this is something thats going to hold my inyterest for hours on end, but you can tell its going to feel good, and fun.

The quick resume function means I'll literally be playing this while waiting for matches with buddies. I hope that shit works to keep you in a party with matchmaking searching going and you can go off and play something like this then flick back between them.

I doubt quick resume will continue doing anything for the game that isn't in focus at the time unfortunately. I doubt you can load up 3 games and do matchmaking on all 3 and they all work in the background.

I understand that's a problem but they should add some dev hooks or platform logic so you can play single player stuff while waiting on a multiplayer title etc. There is room for one to background parallel process, with limitations as you mention of course.

They even marketed such a feature with the Xbox One launch if I remember correctly. "Smart matchmaking" or something.

EDIT: Found it -

Smart Match Frees Up Your Time

With Smart Match, you can do whatever you want while Xbox One finds your perfect match. This means that less popular multiplayer modes and maps that have traditionally taken a long time to find players suddenly become playable. Because Snap mode is a core feature of Xbox One that lets you do two things at once, you no longer have to wait in lobbies while Xbox Live is matchmaking for you. One friend can even set up matches for your whole party.

While Xbox Live is matchmaking, you're untethered and free to do what you want, like watch TV or check out your favorite website or apps while waiting for your next game. If you're playing digital games, you can even play one game while Smart Match prepares a second. This freedom to break out of waiting in lobbies and do whatever you want is what separates Xbox One from systems that don't have a way to instantly switch between tasks.

They just need to extend that so a multiplayer title can be switched with a single player title in place of only TV or other non game apps. I think it will already do it based on this bit "If you're playing digital games, you can even play one game while Smart Match prepares a second." Of course the real difference now is the near instant switching and resume functions. My guess is this will extend like I'm thinking.

The xbox one was supposed to do this :(

It does partially already, I know I can look at clips and other elements like store etc while it matchmakes our party. I'll go a step further and try Netflix or an offline solo game and see what happens. Gonna test it out with Apex tonight.

Yeah but the games not suspended at that stage, it's always running in the background. You can have 1 game and 5 apps "running" at the same time.

What they sold was exactly what you described before - basically run matchmaking for multiple games and then get notified when they find matches so you can choose which one you want to play. It looked absolutely amazing, but unfortunately was a load of bullshit.

I got ya. Hopefully with XSX it works fine for one solo game and one matchmade going on plus the switching between.

I'm not holding out much hope as then it would need to be able to distinguish between single player and multiplayer in different games.

Honestly it sounded amazing in theory, but I can see it causing massive problems with actual matchmaking in games. If I'm searching for PUBG and Gears at the same time, what if they both put me in a game? I can only play one, so if i choose gears then PUBG now has an inactive player in the lobby.

Agreed, they need to widen from TV/apps to solo/offline vs multiplayer for smart matching. I'd kill to play something like Exo One for 30 seconds to 10 minutes while I wait on searching Australia only region for my multiplayer games. I'm still waiting on mini games from developers of their own games. Imagine that, your party firing up a mini side scroller of the same game IP you're playing. I continue to dream.

If there's any game that you should be able to do this with (if there is such a thing) then it's this one. It runs at 4k solid 60fps max settings on a 2070 super at ~40% GPU utilisation (10% CPU utilisation on a 3900x). 4k 120fps might even be on the cards for this title.

While it's visually pleasing (especially with the Phillips Hue ambilight set up), its dull as shit. You're basically a gravity ball, hold right trigger to pull yourself towards the gravitational pull and then hold left trigger to glide after you've picked up a decent amount of speed.

Granted the prologue on Steam only lasted 13 minutes, but the game needs to offer a lot more than this, if not I can't see anyone wanting to stick with it for more than an hour or so.
