F.E.A.R- IGN Review

http://pc.ign.com/articles/657/657310p1.html

9.0 Presentation
Excellent production values, but a few holes persist.
9.5 Graphics
It doesn't get much better than this, and the bevy of options make things highly customizable to your rig's capabilities.
9.5 Sound
Gorgeous music, spooky ambient sound, and great sound effects abound.
9.2 Gameplay
Challenging combat, great set pieces, detailed environments, but not a lot of environmental variety.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
The main game is relatively short; multiplayer, while having some neat tricks up its sleeve, won't replace Counter-Strike any time soon.
9.2 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

2.9??

CRAP A PIECE SOUNDS LIKE!!

Really though, looking forward to this game. The demo had some nice creepy atmosphere, and a good jumpy part (the section toward the end on the ladder!)

Why do people always feel the need to post the incorrect score? Its a 9.2 guys.

Its my way of protesting someone posting a topic that consists (literally) of solely a link. I see now that my original reply has caused the situation to be rectified!

Why do people always feel the need to post the score at all? Just post parts of the review and let the people decide if they would like the game or not.

But the score is all you need to tell you if you'll like the game or not.

Seriously I find the actual text of reviews to be much more important than the actual score. But everyone cares about the score first.

I dont think the graphics are all that special. Very cool effects however like the shadows lighting, blur etc.

It's easier for people to judge based on a number than it is to read something and judge it themselves.

I can't wait!
I just wish my PC could handle that soft-shadowing that looks so good at 20fps or so.

The demo just rocks.

Loved the single player demo, but the multiplayer stinks. Not gonna buy this at $50 for a 10 hour campaign, but it shall be mine when it drops to $20.

I think this score is inflated, I haven't played the game but.. from my demo impressions I think that the score is too high.

i really hope you are kidding
You're right, I should hold my judgment of it until I get a chance to see the retail version of the game, but still.. the demo wasn't 9.2 standard for me.

Single Player Demo had the most intense and satisfying gun fights I've ever experienced in an FPS. I've played that demo like 100 times now.

Still, if it's really short, It'll be hard to justify spending 50 dollars on it. The multiplayer needs some sort of work done to it, or some sort of mod to make it more interesting.

I definately enjoyed the single player demo. I doubt I'll spend $50 on it especially with the 360 looming. It definatetly had a creepy atmosphere, especially on the latter. The nail gun is extremely satisfying.

Can't agree with this enough. The battles are jaw dropping.

I beta tested the multiplayer, and while it wasn't amazed, it was a lot of good fun. There's an arsenal of guns, and watching some of the battles go down is just awesome. One particular memory...

I'm walking down a hallway, when the slow motion gets activated, and I see a guy sprinting in the hallway ahead through the door. As he passed by and goes out of sight, another guy flat out in the air is about to drop kick him in the back. It was amazing. My jaw hit my desk when I saw that.

It's not just that, people like to see what score a game got from what site, so we can compare what GS gave a game versus what IGN gave it too, etc..

It's ALL about the score!

I'm kind of miffed that the game is short. I was hoping for something at least along the lines of No One Lives Forever lengthwise. But I guess the last thing I need right now is a long game since I got lots of work to do.

Still, I loved the demo and I expect to like the whole game. I also hope Condemned turns out well too.

Monoloth says there will be no port to nextgen consoles.

So there's still a possibility for the 360!

*rimshot*

Yeah, that's kind of disappointing. I mean, Condemned is a 360 title that's getting a PC release, right? It would have been interesting to see how well they could get a F.E.A.R. port running. I'd actually buy the 360 version if it had all graphical effects on high, plus soft shadows, at 720p with 2x or 4x anti-aliasing, running at a locked 30 fps. Ideally 60, but they'd probably have to use more than one CPU core for that. Anyway, while the PC demos proved that the engine is quite scalable, you need a freakin' beast of a machine to enjoy the game with all details maxed, at 1280x1024, 4xAA/8xAF, and maintain a playable framerate.

Ok. No F.E.A.R for 360/PS3 then. Shame.

I thought I read that the tech was being used for a next gen game though? Can someone confirm that.

Thankgod its not comig to next gen consoles, all they need is more generic non evolutionary fps games.

This is so much bullshit, why the hell isnt it coming to next gen consoles.

Make up your mind GAF.

I bet it comes to X360. Monolith are just trying to give the PC version some space to sell - last thing they want is everyone to skip it waiting for the 360 version. That might be an issue with other PC ports too. maybe in 6 months time?
