I wonder if there is a single person on this planet excited for this who does not work for Facebook or is not a major shareholder.
Google created Alphabet to have two separate divisions that pursued different technological interests and answering to different shareholders. Facebook, rather, appears to be creating Meta in order to pull all of their different holdings under one name. So it seems like the opposite unless I am reading this press release wrong.

Considering how Apple is pushing the privacy angle, the number of devices they sell and the amount they charge I would say plenty of people care, especially the ones that have lots of money and do not spend time on social media.
I work fuckton, when I'm off work it's my family that takes all the time, not shitty feeds. I have absolutely no interest in other people's lives nor do I want them to know about mine.

A reminder that Priscilla Chan, wife of the charmless, reptilian Facebook ceo, donated nearly $1 million to Gavin Newson(current governor of CA, home of Facebook hq) when he was sweating the recall effort earlier this year.
These shitty tech companies will use any means to try and avoid consequences or repurcussions for their dumbass decisions. Means that include using spouses/family/friends to donate to politicians. It's how they're able to pay less taxes, exploit workers, force their contractors back into offices to face multiple covid outbreaks, etc etc. All while their super privileged, fulltime employees(many they hired from China with H-1B visas lol) get to stay home during a pandemic and ask if their meals, internet, peloton bikes and even air conditioning costs get reimbursed by the company.

I used to drive by their Menlo Park campus on my commute home a few years ago and their campus development was clearly encroaching on an area of old businesses and a mobile home park. On the outer wall of one of the businesses was a custom-made banner that said "welcome to the neighborhood Mark Zuckerberg". Oh I found it. still makes me cringe.
