Famicom Wars DS in June!

Now that i think about it, if it's titled Famicom Wars, shouldn't be called Nintendo Wars here in the West?

The GameBoy Wars name didn't really do much for AW1+2 in Japan, so they're reverting back to the Famicom name after the reexposure with Famicom Mini and the larger popularity of the name for the series in general.

I think they're also trying to deliberately distance the DS from the Game Boy line of products. At least with "Advance", it's not so bad.

Oh man... the urge to import despite not knowing a LICK of Japanese is going to be extremely strong...

*gets in line*

An early date though probably means no online at launch. I hope it's different for the U.S. release. :p

Hopefully they'll shift their focus to Revolution development.

They better shift to Revolution! Looking at current devoloper attitude towards nintendo and the past few years, revolution won't launch with a great 3rd party library (or at least nothing new and just ports) and will need all the exclusives it can get. though Nintendo trying to show people how awesome it is to 'touch' has me worried teams like IS will be wasting their times working for the DS.

Well, in some ways this is rather good news after Japan had to wait quite a while for BOTH of the GBA games. Though I know it's selfish, I wish that was happening again, I rather liked the bit of focus on the western releases. :P

I'm pretty sure this game will not be online.
There has been no evidence of the typical signal icon in current screens.
But, you never know...

Funny.
I was in Game in the Uk the other day.

On the shelf it had a list of Nintendo release dates for the DS.
It has Nintendogs, Animal Crossing and advance wars all out by June 2005??
I asked the guy and he said they are all from Nintendo last week.

Animal Crossing would be strange that early in particular, given the online play. Guess they could just be screwing European gamers, but I have a hard time believing even the extensive translation work that's needed would be done by then.

Anyway, I guess this means no Advance Wars online. They didn't go on about being online end of the year and demonstrate Animal Crossing for no reason. Only hopes: AW has online hooks, you just can't use them until a network is in place....or wait for the sequel.

I'm pretty sure if this one isn't online, the next one will be and that it'll be around by the next year. Putting hooks in would be smart, though. I won't complain either way, I'd buy Advance Wars no matter what.

Nah. It's just a branding thing. Famicom Wars was really popular here a long time ago. In the same way, Advance Wars was popular in the US, so that'll be the name over there.

Wars is a long running series in japan but I don't think it was *that* popular. If anything, Advance Wars really helped propel the series forward in terms of recognition and quality (because honestly Super Famicom Wars and previous Wars titles weren't all that great).

If a delay meant online I would happily take it in this case, since I probably won't own a DS untill this comes out anyway. *shrug*

It was more popular back then than it is now (in Japan). Nintendo pretty much killed it when they delayed GB Wars Advance three years because of 9/11.

Yeah, that has to be one of the stupidest moves they ever did (delaying due to 9/11).

Some more Nintendo dates:
Chibi Robo: 23 June
DDR Mario: 14 July
Mario Baseball: 21 July

Maybe Famicom Wars GC will come out around the same time as Famicom Wars DS too? Not sure.

What's the word on Chibi Robo? I feel quite silly for asking, like I should know that it's a mish-mash of great-yet-poorly-implemented ideas finally rushed out the door after years of development, but for some odd reason, I want to go against the uninformed premonitions of my belly.

Didn't Iwata say it would be relatively easy to take a game with wireless multiplayer and make it online.

If AW DS does come out a couple of months before Nintendo formally launches their network, it could still have the appropriate "hooks" programmed into it to let it recoginize the network once its up.

But I think Nintendo will do a full blown unveiling of DS online at E3, and then after that games that support online will start to come out.

I'm not getting my hopes up about online (never had), but I hadn't anticipated it to be released so soon in Japan.

I just hope we don't have to wait long for it to come over to North America.

Man, I hope the US gets it in the summer too, but I have a feeling it'll be hold off until September/October or some crap.

Friggin' NOA.

If the western release is delayed to fall, hopefully it's to implement online play. NOA's schedule is already filled until June though, so this time I doubt we'll see it before Japan either way. :/

is the GC version still being made?

havent heard anything about it since e3 really...

Yep . New CUBE mag in the Uk are down at KUJU playing it, and will blow it open in the new mag out 07.04 will let you all know when it arrives in the post and put up some scans

There's always the possibility that for some crazy reason they make it online in US but not Japan, and let's face it, sometimes Nintendo is crazy.

I hope it is online, otherwise I'm confused why Nintendo choose DS as the platform. If Nintendo wants to differentiate the DS as a 3rd pillar, they shouldn't be making a DS game that looks like it could be done on GBA.

any game that uses ad hoc WiFi can be taken online (see PSP). The problem is nintendo using two wireless standards in the DS and everyone so far going with the non WiFi solution..... :|

I thought this was the most effective use of dual screens so far. Must you find something to moan about with every DS game? :P
