I'll say it highly indicative though. Look at DQ8 and also FFXII.. they're no.1 respective (now+past) and both had/will have monster sales. Interesting to see how RE4 cube sells though. Not long now. I love how Capcom HAS fractured the GC RE interest base. :| Now we'll never know if a TRUE AAA+ exclusive can move on the cube

But they do! You see that figure for #1? 7.150? That's literally 7,150, not 7.15 million.

Not every gamer reads Famitsu and then writes in what they want the most. The Top 10 most wanted is going to be skewered towards hardcore gamers.

that the PS2 version of RE4 is only 2 marks behind the GC version is very sad to see at this moment. I mean, the GC version is 4 days away while the PS2 version is like 9, 10 months. Then again, Japan is PS2 country.

Yeah, but even then, it's easy to say you want something but then not buy it. Just look at GAF alone; it's filled with pathological liars who give impressions of games they haven't even ever played.

In light of that, I would certainly think that there are people out there who want a game so badly until they realize they have to actually pluck down money for it. Answering a survey is the easy part. If you had a survey of people who were forced to buy whichever games for which they voted, I think you'd see much more accurate results, even if the population of the sample were merely hardcore gamers (as opposed to the entire market, casual and hardcore). I don't think the Famitsu surveys accurately represent any one, to be honest.

Well how does it work? Do you vote for one game? Ten games?

If it's one game, I think it's pretty damn accurate, surely anyone who'd vote in a Famitsu poll can buiy a single game every so often. If it's ten games, they're probably putting down stuff they don't really care about but have at least some interest in, in which case the poll's probably a bit screwed.

Can't ignore reviews and impressions either. People might want these games in the build up, but if they review poorly or the reviews have comments they don't like, or maybe a friend tells them it's crap, they're not going to buy it. Doesn't mean it wasn't their most wanted game previously though.

how does Nintendo feel about the PR release of RE4 for PS2 before it is released? Do you feel it cannibalised sales. Someone @ nintendo must be very angry / shamed of letting the franchise slip - but then if the allowance allows better Capcom/Nintendo relationship .. that might be a good trade off.

Is Okami coming to GC? I want it either way. It can't happen soon enough.

I think Zelda will reach the #1 spot once they release more media for it. I've never met anyone in my life who doesn't like Zelda, excluding Wind Waker.
