Famitsu Sales: Week 2, 2024 (Jan 08 - Jan 14)

[Weekly sales of software and hardware] “Super Mario Wonder” takes first place for the 8th time in total! “Momotaro Dentetsu World” and “Spider-Man 2” continue to have strong sales [1/8-1/14]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time, we bring you a summary of estimated weekly game software and hardware sales from January 8th to January 14th, 2024.

In this week's rankings, the titles that were in the top 10 last week have changed their positions and remain as they are. "Super Mario Bros. Wonder" returned to number one , marking its eighth time in total.

A close second place went to “Momotaro Dentetsu World". In December 2023, the previous work “Momotaru Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa" sold over 4 million copies, and this work can be expected to have similar long-term sales.

Next in third place is "Marvel's Spider Man 2", which is steadily increasing in sales .
These sales include the "bundled version with the PlayStation 5 console" that was released in limited quantities on December 20, 2023, and this week the PS5 console also recorded strong sales of 36,506 units.

At Heart, the Nintendo Switch is also selling well, with cumulative domestic sales likely to reach 32 million units by the end of January.

Last week 104k for Switch, 41k for PS5.
This week 46k for Switch, 36k for PS5.

PS5 had a very small drop considering the holiday season is over, was it supply constrained in Japan this December? It's like it had no holiday boost at all and hasn't dropped in January.

What's with the still unusual demand for PS5 HW? Did Sony not stock the PS5 well enough over the holidays?

There weren't any reports of supply issues, seems to be continuing the trend of PS5 hardware and software sakes in Japan making no sense.

With the new year getting here and the price increase i expected a bigger drop for the PS5 tbh.
Sony increased the price by 6,500 yen on the new version of the disc model, but the holiday bundle (including Spiderman 2 essentially for free) is probably offsetting some of that. I’m sure new ps5 owners would probably be looking to pick up the game anyway, so getting the new bundle is essentially the same cost (or slightly cheaper)than the old model and buying the game separately.

Once the holiday bundle promo ends then we should have a better indication of how ps5 sales will hold up in 2024.
I don’t think the digital ed. comes with spiderman 2, so that edition is probably more affected by the higher price increase.

MK8 is such a weird story. Came out on Wii U, was a great game but flopped because of Wii U. Repackage it and sell it again with additional content and a very generous DLC, and it is now an evergreen that still charts worldwide 6 years later.

Didnt it sell 8.5 million on Wii U? I would not call that a flop at all

B...but...i thought Sony needed a definite price decrease in Japan to maintain last year's numbers? GAF told me that the price increase would be a terrible idea specially early in the year?

PS5 hardware sales in Japan are one of the most unpredictable things I've ever seen. It's really weird.

There's a actually a chance it sells more in January than it did in December. Which would be pretty rare.

There were some rumors Sony had not shipped a lot of units for Japan in December so that could be true.
Where are this weeks numbers? Famitsu releases them in thursdays...it's friday already. Was it a holiday there yeaterday?

There were shortages in the weeks before the Slim came out, but they were resolved by December.

Famitsu didn't publish the numbers yesterday for some reason, but they have done so this morning. I assume Luninoth will make the thread like usual.
