Have been noticing a lot of new Super Mario Party players who’ve just bought the game recently. I’m glad to see that the community is strong and active

To see it selling more than 2/3 of the other games on the market despite being nearly three years old is kind of surprising, but it is a lot of fun. Especially once you get a feel for the minigames and develop some board tactics, strategies

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
The Switch is a juggernaut. Reminds me of the DS.
In terms of market share, I think it has surpassed the DS. I remember the software chart had more systems. The PSP was doing ok, and we had a few PS2 games still charting. I don't think in my life I have ever seen 24 games out of the top 30, dominated by a single platform.

I'm not a data person though, so I could be mistaken.

Honestly that's better than I thought it would be when they said Japan is their fastest growing region. Series S though looks like it won't be doing as well as everyone thought it would in Japan (or maybe anywhere?)

Looks like XSX had really good week compared mere hundreds in sales. It sold basically 3x "average" weekly sales, which includes initial launch stock.
I'm wondering what will look like the sold-thru # in Japan for XSX in the future by end of its life cycle?
Honestly I'll be very impressed if they manage to sell over 300k.

Supply is so bad or is Sony really abandoning Japan for the western sales? That it's still behind WiiU..
Q2 weekly average is more than 5k lower than Q1 weekly average PS5 sales.

So yeah supply is bad.
But not just in Japan. It's lower in the west, too.

I think that we had 29 DS games in the top 30 once. I'll make a script to read the old data and see if any console had >90% software domination in a week.

And most interesting, Switch games are more expensive than the DS ones.

So, guys in japan or who know about japan, if I want a PS5 and a Series X from there, what are my best options "NOW"?

Yamada Denki only does lotteries and they don't even announce the dates when the sign-ups go live and suddenly do. Yodobashi don't do lotteries and they always are out of stock. How the hell are there 16K units being moved there, if it's available nowhere? WTF? This is only for the PS5.

For the Series X, is it even available there? 3.5K units a week, where to get one of these? Or at least try?

Someone there or someone who knows, please help!

Sure we supply is bad everywhere but not everywhere when Sony or NPD recently was quoted that PS5 was the fastest/biggest launch ever? That means supply was more to US than Japan (percentage wise)?

PS5 would be selling a ton more if they could meet demand, but they can't. So, yeah, it can be both the fastest selling console ever and in poor supply.

I agree, but that wasn't the point of my post. Just saying it looks like Sony is sacrificing Japan sales/install base for more US sales/install base.

The hardware situation is fine if looked at within a vacuum, when we consider the actual software sales it's fairly clear that it masks the decisive decline of the PS ecosystem in Japan.
Scarlet Nexus & Samurai Warriors 5 are the two major titles left on the PS4/PS5 for the first half of the year. After them the next major titles are coming out in September - Tales of Arise & Lost Judgement. Beyond them we have Demon Slayer, Horizon Forbidden West, potentially Ghost of Ikishima.
So we would be looking at a very slow summer for PlayStation ecosystem, comparatively the PS5 software is doing worse than X360 did in Japan in it's first year on the market, while PS4 software sales are also declining as the system was definitely killed prematurely by Sony as they really didn't supply much hardware last year while scaling up production of the PS5.
This should mainly concern third parties and their footprint in Japan,

Bandai's Scarlet Nexus for example is set to debut with below 40K sales across the PS4/PS5, Tales of Arise will debut much lower than Tales of Berseria which launched with 234K sales across the PS4/PS3(higher than the current lifetime sales of Village), for Arise I'm not expecting the debut to surpass 150K in Japan.
Sega has Lost Judgement - the debut on the PS4 launched with 150K sales during the peak of the PS4 in 2018, at the moment surpassing 100K would be a good result.
Samurai Warriors used to be a PlayStation exclusive, now Koei is going with multiplat strategy - SM4 managed to launch just shy of 200K across the PS3/PSV
Currently there is no other major Japanese third party game dated for the rest of the year and Western third party games like Battlefield and COD also are likely to see big declines.

In terms of first/second party titles, Demon Slayer is the biggest new IP in Japan, so the licensed game is something to look out for - but it's still early to say what to expect from it. Horizon Zero Dawn launched with around 100K in 2017 on the PS4, maybe Forbidden West can match this across the PS4/PS5 - but the game is still not confirmed for this year and the potential spin-off of Ikishima can potentially score the highest debut on the PS5 but we need to see it revealed first.

If these are the biggest titles for this year launching on the PS4/PS5, the Top 10 for 2021 is unlikely to surpass 1.5 million.

Top 10 PlayStation 2020:
  1. [PS4] Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix) - 949.379
  2. [PS4] Ghost of Tsushima (Sony) - 427.071
  3. [PS4] Resident Evil 3 (Capcom) - 269.187
  4. [PS4] Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Sega) - 263.255
  5. [PS4] The Last of Us Part II (Sony) - 233.273
  6. [PS4] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 (Konami) - 189.649
  7. [PS4] Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost On (Bandai Namco) - 168.710
  8. [PS4] Nioh 2 (Koei Tecmo) - 167.599
  9. [PS4] Persona 5 Strikers (Atlus) - 164.962
  10. [PS4] Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (Bandai Namco) - 163.029
TOTAL: 2.996.114

That would be a 50% decline YoY, and would severally hurt Square, Sega & Bandai, who were perhaps the three publisher most closely aligned to PlayStation for the launch of the PS5. Worst still, if we were to look at just PS5 software we are unlikely to see it surpass 500K across it's Top 10 titles(a result similar to X360 a niche console in Japan). With Bandai stating their are working on their most expensive game ever, it would mean that they would need to achieve the majority of their sales outside of Asia.
For Sega we already started to see a pivot in their strategy the effect of which will begin to see in 2022/2023. While Square will need to brace themselves for another major decline of the Final Fantasy brand in Japan as FFXVI if it launches next year might struggle to surpass 500K.

Like noted previously PS5's abysmal software sales can only be explained if the actual active user-base in Japan is far lower than Famitsu numbers. If a lot of the consoles sold in Japan end up being resold in China and Rest of Asia, than perhaps as hardware demand normalizes there the active audience in Japan will start to grow, software sales will pick-up to at least PSV levels. It's a very tricky situation especially as the Switch is likely going to enter it's software peak in 2022 with third party support further accelerating while Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild sequel and Pokémon Legends Arceus are likely to be able to match 2020 from a 1st/2nd party perspective

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Sony should acquire third party hentai developer like Illusion games.

Triple A Weebo porn game exclusive only on PS5, made in UE5. PSVR2 support with haptic feedback.

Not only this would increase Japan software sales, it would totally destroy Microsoft market even with GamePass.

It is exclusive, but from my understanding Integrade is DLC, so the vast majority of its sales will come from people who already have FF 7 remake and so just download the new content.

How so?
  1. PlayStation 5 – 13.905 / 698.420
  2. Nintendo Switch Lite – 13.610 / 3.903.023
  3. Xbox Series X – 3.141 / 39.326

They will not beat switch but over in the US and Uk we may have weeks without stock, there they at least have 15k a week.

Not really.
PS5 is ahead of PS4 launch aligned in JP, but below in Spain and the UK.
US is pretty much flat.
You missed part of the convo, I said WiiU(worst sale console for Nintendo of all time which the chart is comparing). But PS4 is even behind PS3 at this point and PS3 was considered a disastrous launch at the time. The chart does not show the whole picture - it's selection in showing/comparing the lowest sales in Japan.

What...it's DLC? Does that mean PS4 version would not get track if it's sold on PSN. But still odd no physical or digital card of PS4. The install base is still big on PS4.

Yes digital sales aren't included. The game on the chart is FF7 remake + Integrade, so the only people who would buy it are people who did not have FF7 remake to begin with.

I'm not trying to be a console warrior, but that's not saying much when PS4 bone of their lowest consoler sales in Japan, Vita being the other.

.... is maybe sarcasm?
Well people were expecting that ps4 did a lot worse, and if ps5 that is 100$ expensive and like 100% bigger (a big no no in Japan) is already surpassing it in sales, that sounds at least like having a good start.

I'm guessing Japanese people are just playing there ps4 games on there ps5s like most people....ps4 and xbone didn't have bc so people pretty much had to buy software for the system... they don't have to on these new systems so most will just play ps4 games until the ps5 games they want come out.... ff7 was a very bad example to use.... you get a free upgrade from the ps4 version which which right now is alot cheaper than intergrade...

It's a moot point, as Sony isn't alloting many PS5 units to Japan. Everything there is sold out, just like the rest of the world.

There's also the theory that a lot of PS5s get scalped and shipped overseas. Nobody really knows why software sales are so bad though.
